can you see it?

a water tower
way off
 there
 so small
but
 still there

we took a walk in the park on saturday
 decided to cut it short
so
 we walked up those stairs
which takes us back to the park
below the community garden part of the loop
 we usually make

 i paused
 looked up
 and
 there it was
 so
 of course
i took the shot

i began serving grand jury duty this week
things are a bit different
 than they were
 last time
i got to do this civic duty

 back then
 when they called the roll
 you got to say
afternoon or morning
 as there are two sessions

this time
they ushered approx 300 of us into a courtroom
let us sit for almost 45 minutes
 before getting started

there was an explanation of reasons for exclusion
there was an explanation of how sessions would be filled
 then
 the roll was called

 you replied
 serve
 or
 application

 application
gets you a reprieve of 6-8 weeks

 serve
 means
 your name goes into
 a hopper
 a lottery

 then
names were pulled
chosen
from
 those who opted to
serve
they were
pulled
 randomly

  i watched
 as
row
after row
 for
 afternoon session
 was filled

less people opted for morning

 my name
 was
 not
 called

 finally
 the man in charge
 announced
that
the last 7 names in the hopper
 were
 to
sit
fill
the
 morning session

guess
 who
was
one
 of
the
 'lucky' 7

yup

i get to serve
 daily
 from
 today
 through
 december 2
 every day
 except
 weekends
veterans
 and
thanksgiving
 day
 from
 10 to 1
after which
i will head into the office

how unhappy am i
 well
lets just say
 its
 off
the scale of 1 to 10

  2. I hate mornings.
But I could see the water tower.
And I found your name. (I sound like a kid with a new toy.)

  3. Oh well spotted on the water tower! I have never been called for jury service and I can't say I'm sorry. Good luck with it. x

  4. Every day?! You did tell them tht you were a blogger/journalist right?
I don't know about Grand Jury duty but here in Tulsa it is almost impossible to get excused from jury duty. young mothers, doctors, old people. No excuses. I've never been called but Heather has.

  5. Oh dear, the cards fell the wrong way. Still, at least it's not 8am and all day long. Right? Trying to be a little positive here :-)

  6. I love how I can find your tower tucked away in the corner of your photograph.
Sorry to hear about the jury duty. I always thought 7 was a lucky number too...

  7. Love the shot, sorry about the jury duty. Oddly I've never been called before in my life. I'd do it for you if I could.

  9. Oh boy, I'd be unhappy too!
I just hope it goes by quickly for you, or that it's interesting, or....SOMETHING. :-(
