happy fourth of july!

july fourth
is
the
'official'
kick off
to
summer

nothing says
summer
to
new yorker
better
then
coney island

this week luna park suffered a small set back
there was a shakiness a swaying detected
in the famous astrotower
which by the way
 has
not
 been
operational
in
a
 long
time
however
it looms
over the rest of the park
should something happen
 it would be disastrous

the people in charge
are trying to come up
 with a way
 to
anchor the tower
to stop the swaying

as of this writing
it looks as if that part
of luna park
will
remain
shuttered

 lets hope
they
 reopen
soon
 giving
children of all ages
 a
 fun
 filled
summer

stay safe

  5. Love that bright, happy photo! We have a small annual party; after dinner we can see the local fireworks from our yard.

  7. I've been a bad blog buddy, not stopping by as often as I should (or would like.) Happy 4th, nevertheless.

I believe we told you, during our visit, that we had gone out to Coney Island via elevated (in February, if I recall the date of our get-together correctly.) Dopes that we were, we actually went there with the idea of getting Nathan's dogs. Duh! February, and with the after-effects of Sandy still somewhat fresh. Anyway, we went. No dogs, but we did enjoy a walk between Coney Island station and the next one up the line, West 8th/Aquarium, and we saw the sad state of the various rides and amusements. Here's hoping everything bounced back!

(We'll be watching the hot dog eating contest on TV today, so I suspect we'll get some idea of how things have progressed since that time.)

    it's really ugly
the parachute jump on the other hand is beautiful and I hope they check it out and maintain it

  10. Daryl, Happy 4th to you! Hope you have a great day! A nice long weekend for you! Hope it's special!
I watched a PBS special on the Statue of Liberty yesterday. Lots of good NYC shots!
I think NYC would be a great place to spend the 4th!

  11. Happy 4th to you too! I love saying that. There has been little opportunity to say it today - so many English people surrounding me here :). Cool shot and hopefully things will be fixed soon.

  12. Great picture!

I have a picture of me screaming on the Coney Island Cyclone and it wasn't taken all that long ago either:)

  13. Belated 4th of July wishes Daryl, it's been so mega hectic around here with garden and kitchen renovations I don't know whether I'm coming or going. I see you found the perfect red white and blue image for today, I had no doubts at all that you would :)
