step aside

on the platform
 of the eastside subway
 there are
step aside
 signs

 do people heed it?

 they did the afternoon
 i was there

 on the westside
 people huddle
 close to the edge
of the platform
 waiting
the train's arrival
then
they part
 like the red sea
 to
 allow passengers
 to exit
 before
 pushing
 to get on
 before
 the doors
close
riding
 the
new york city subway

 its a trip

  1. Glad to hear that they do. Some people don't even notice them, much less follow them.

  2. as much as I would like to visit your big city, I don't know if I could handle being in the crowds of people:) I'm worried about being on a crowded plane for 2 hours and that is really sad (compared to being captive in a car for 16 hours-)

  4. I admire people who can stand close to the edge of the subway platform....that scares me. I'd be back aways!

  5. When I was a kid, I always hung by the edge of the platform. I wanted to see the tunnel, see the train coming, feel the whoosh of air. As I've grown older, I've pulled back from the edge - but just a step or two :-)

  6. Each city seems to have its own subway/tube/metro etiquette.

  7. Can't even begin to tell you how many "Mind the Gap" photos I've taken. :)

  8. Sounds like the tube in London except they don't always let you off before they get on!

  9. Step Aside huh, this Okie wouldn't know what to do but I wouldn't crowd the edge anyways. I love in London where many of the exit signs are labelled "Way Out" I didn't see any that said "Far Out" though.

  10. But I'll bet there's always something new and interesting going on there.
    Neat shot, Daryl. xo.

  11. It most certainly is a trip, and thank goodness Son, Daughter, and I had you to help us seamlessly navigate the subway system. We're already talking about a return trip later this year, we can't seem to stay away.
