well
maybe
 'they'
 read my blog
 or
maybe
 'someone'
 noticed
 the inordinate number of photos
 i have taken
 of this mess

 i doubt it

  but
 last week
 this
sign
appeared

 in typical
 new yorkese
 it tells you
nothing
but
 it does so in
a
nice
clean
 type face
in
 the official new york colors
seriously
new york's colors are blue and orange
i think
they threw in
 the green and black
 just to balance it out

do you
remember
 this
sign?

it made
 its appearance
 months into the work
 which
 has
 since
 mid-may
 been
complete

however
 this
repaired
replaced
now
 pristine
escaltor
remains
non-operational

i suspect
 the inspectors
 have been too busy elsewhere
 to come by
 and
 approve the work

  i will say this
i owe the city
 a thank you
for
 improving
my cardio vascular stamina

 there are 36 steps
 from the lower level
 to the street

i count them every morning as i climb them
so
thanks!

  1. I'm thinking that the three-year project will be four. But think of all the photo ops!

  2. Oh boy... by the time the inspection happens and the escalator is operational you will be soooo fit! Is that any consolation?

  4. That's the city, I guess. Always growing, changing, tearing down, building.

  5. Oh, goody. More traffic nightmares for those of us who sometimes drive in...
The city cares about you and wants you to stay in shape, that's why the escalator is off ; )

  7. The escalator really looks fantastic...but isn't working? - typical! Can't wait (and I guess it will be a long while) for the finished road work's photo :).

  10. You gotta be kidding me, May 2016?

You should time yourself going up the steps every morning and then put the results on this blog. We could chart your steadily increasing speed. That would be fun. Or not.

  12. Not to be completed until 2016?! That's a long time! Co-incidentally I just read this article about the redesigning of Times Square...It didn't say anything about taking three years to do it though! http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/01/21/130121fa_fact_owen

You go girl with those 36 steps! I think everyone in NYC is in fantastic shape for all their walking to tell you the truth!
