can you make out
the ghost sign
on the building
behind
the water tank
below
to the right
of
the Empire State Building?
The American Book Bindery Building
don't lean in too far
you'll smash your nose
into the computer screen
i only noticed it
when
i was trying
to balance the contrast
the actual building
is on 30th and 9th
the ESB
is on Fifth and 34th
i believe
i took this shot
from
The High Line
it stretches from
12th to 30th
contrasts
it was a weekend in need of lightening up
Toonman offered me several options
i chose
Ice Age Continental Drift
aka Ice Age 4
animation
cute prehistoric critters
who knew something so lightweight could be so anxiety producing?
families separated
ice melting
land masses crumbling
evil pirate monkeys on ice berg 'ships'
oh my
i am thinking next time i will opt for a musical

I love those old ghost signs.
ReplyDeleteRoof shots, New York views, ghost signs, and the iconic tower. . . .very nice. Books? Bindery? Antique concepts today . . fading like the sign in the age of pixels.

ReplyDeleteBest regards from France,

ESB again...love it. And love the ghost sign.
ReplyDeleteIs the book store/building still up? Is it only a ghost sign? Hope not... :-)
ReplyDeletefabulous photo.......looks eerily cold!!
ReplyDeletehaha this made me laugh... I don't think you should take Ice Age too seriously... I haven't seen number 4 but I'm sure everything worked out happily in the end right? :D
ReplyDeleteI love the Ice Age movies they're so funny! Great shot.
ReplyDeletethe ESB is beautiful in the light
ReplyDeleteand the ghost sign is very cool
Love that ghost sign!
ReplyDeleteI walked the High Line a number of years ago. How the heck did I miss this great shot? :<) Looking the other way, I guess!
ReplyDeleteYup I spotted it right off, nice 'surprise' find! I was going to say they don't make cartoons like they used to, but when you think about it they've always been a bit kind of violent..in a funny (?) way!!
ReplyDeletep.s. It was so weird earlier on, when I tried to comment I kept getting the error sign, was just about to email, when it came good!
A musical? Maybe something fun and silly like Les Miserables.
ReplyDeleteVery cool shot! You got that spot-on straight and a great composition! And of course I can't see the sign...I'm on my office monitor...will revisit when I get home!
ReplyDeleteHa! I liked Ice Age 4. But yes, tension and drama! Love the shot. And, yes, great composition.
ReplyDeleteDaryl, Love the towers with the iconic ESB in the background!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't got to Ice Age 4 yet. Did watch Ice Age 3 on the tube the other day!
Ok, now I have nose prints on my computer screen, but I see it!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful shot.
Great shot from the High Line and I always love a view of ESB. We see ghost signs in the rural south, but most of them are at ground level.
ReplyDeleteBises,

Lol...such good movies. My grand kids got me hooked.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of ghost signs before, but I did feel someone tap me on my shoulder as I leaned in to read it...
ReplyDeleteMy father and his father and brothers were all bookbinders:) Wish I learned from them when I could!
ReplyDeleteIt is quite interesting how many animated cartoons are anxiety producing...from the very first one I saw...Bambi!
