how often do you say I love you?

When I leave the apartment to go to the office Husband is usually still asleep. A night owl by nature, self employed by choice he works at home, editing videos, at his own pace. He may meet with clients during the day but he does his best work during the quiet hours of the late night long after I am asleep.

Every morning when I get to the office I email him: Good morning. I love you. Off into the internets the email goes to arrive in Mail waiting for him to click, read and reply.

His replies, like him, are clever and loving. Sometimes they make me smile, occasionally make me laugh, always let me know I am loved. Many simply say I love you. Occasionally he will share something Gus or Rose has done. He might remind me to call the vet, order cat food or some other trival bit of house 'work'.

Some mornings we trade ((hugs)) or xoxox, often one-upping the other with larger fonts or silly misspellings. I once replied MUAAAAAAAAAH! His reply was: Dinah Shore?

We dont usually call one another during the day because I am quite often involved in office business and he is either with a client or watching a movie (99.99% of the time for fun, 1% of the time client related). But when we do the conversation never ends without one of us saying I love you, the reply is always I love YOU.

Once a long time ago after spending several days home together we realized we didnt say I love you as often when we're together as when we're not. Instead we seem to touch the other on a shoulder or top of the head as we pass on the way to make coffee or go to the john. A 'here comes a kiss on the head' might be heard causing a look up, an I love you to the kisser.

This past weekend we shared not only I love you's but germs. On Sunday feeling the beginnings of this crud settling in, he said to me: I hate you. I said oh I am so glad! I can hug you now, I've missed you. Hugging me tight he said to me: You didnt miss me. You got me.

Yeah, we're sappy newlyweds. 30 years this coming July.
