things go better

week
of
ups
downs

Broadway looking south Hipstamatic iPhoneograph John S lens Kodot XGrizzled film no flash

going in two directions at once
sideways

there was the cleaning lady
she works for the building
comes round
every morning to spot clean
the real work
 is
done at night
after we leave
Hilda
 is her name
she's been cleaning for us
as long as I've worked here
 going on 12 years
she calls me
Carol
I have told her
many times
my
name
 is
Daryl

Monday
she came to me
to tell me
about
 something
that wasn't where it should be

 Carol
she said
I cant find
the
whateveritwasshewaslookingforIforget

I said
 my name
 is
not
Carol
 to be honest
I usually ignore
her inability to remember my name
because
occasionally
I suffer the same problem
but
Monday morning
 well

she giggled
seriously
 she
giggled

Oh I know I call you Carol does it bother you?

Well
yes it does

  No giggling now
BIG eyes

OH I'm sorry Ca .. Daryl

Now
of course
I feel
a little bad
 not bad enough to say
okay you can call me Carol
Nope
I just smile and leave the pantry

Then there is Rose

My sweet baby
has
chronic kidney disease
related anemia
and
now
a form of pink eye
 brought on by stress
really
stress
 no kidding
 do you think
a little barely over 6 lb cat
 who has had
 one thing
after
the other
happen to her
over the last going on 3 years
 is
stressed?

She lost Gus
she had a week long in-hospital thyroid treatment
she had ringworm
she had dental surgery
she's had several bouts of pancreatitis
the most recent
pushed her over the cusp
into
full blown chronic kidney disease

for the pink eye
 we added
2X a day eye salve
to her
 daily
50ml subQ hydration
which
she
detests

stress?
ya think?

how about the stress
 it adds to our lives
 to Toonman and me
we never fight
 sure
 occasionally
I get in a snit
 over something
but
we
 don't
fight

we don't

 well
 come by any evening
 when we do her hydration
 measure
 the tension
 in the room
 OMG
 insane
Toonman holds her on his lap
 petting her
calming her
 while
jab a needle
 into her upper back
she flinches
 I jump
every
 night

 Toonman tells me
every
night
how I am doing it
wrong
it makes me crazy
its not as if I am enjoying this

 well
the other night
 I said
stop
telling me how wrong
 I do it
stop
making me feel
 worse
 do it yourself
and
he did
 in one simple motion
and
she never flinched
GAH
 then what happened?
 He
 apologized
 to
 me
 to me
 he
apologized
 I am the bitch
I am the raging loon
 and
 he apologized to me
I love that man

after a brief chat with the vet last nite
Rose is on
X A N A X
 yup
 a quarter of a 0.25MG dose
because
seriously
everything
 we do to help her
stresses her out
so we need to
unstress
 her

Phew
 that was
some
long blather
I should have said
 go get a coke
after all things go better
with coke

oh one last thing!
dont forget
 this weekend
 its time
to set the clocks
ahead
one hour
on
Saturday night
why am I reminding you now?
'cause I feel like it

  1. Oh poor little Rose...I do hope the xanax will ease her stress enough so she can get on the path to good health. She looks so sweet!

  2. Yes..things do go better with a coke... especially xanax..

You need to de-stress.. weekend upcoming , so maybe you can
    and will..

I do believe Bob and Toonman are related.. were they part of some cloning experience ??

  3. I am a CBW fan but lurk here too: offering a possible suggestion via a friend who did intensive kitty home care (not that you asked for advice). She made her kitty feel much stronger and immune-boosted by adding wheat grass juice to kitty's water.
Viva la chlorophyll? (Maybe things go better with wheat grass juice than with Coke) Hopefully it would not be hard to get wheat grass juice in your area. Pet stores sell wheat grass for indoor pets too.
My friend's cat lived a long life; she was a spectacular orange tabby who sat and listened raptly to human conversations, and was the epitome of affection.I really feel for you and Toonman trying so hard to make her comfortable and get better.

  6. I think Toonman should do the hydration from now on and you should hold and soothe poor Rose...To each his (or her) own!

  7. Having pets who are hurting is such a difficult emotional thing anyway...but to stress them out more when you're taking care of them? Tears at the heart. Toonman sounds like such a gentle man:-) It's almost the weekend, get some pampering.
Carol? I guess we never know what amuses other people and they don't know what bothers us unless we say something.

  8. I have met Rose several times, and she is such a dear little kitty. Xanax will really help with the stress, so let's hope she calms some. I think you and Ray have a great relationship, Carol. I mean Daryl. Love the ToonMan.

And I love your cool photos here, especially that Coca-Cola one. You know my dad worked for Coke for years?

  9. Poor little Rose. I feel for her and for you. I felt so bad when the vet told me Bibi has the beginnings of cataracts (she'll be 9 in May), and that was probably the reason she didn't like to go out in the dark; can't see well. It stresses ME.

I'm having a Coke right now.

  10. Poor Rose.

You could always start calling Hilda Helga. That might get her attention.

  15. Taking a break and came to visit you and glad I did! This was a funny post (not that Rose is stressed) but you and Toonman and Carol. Love your rants! Oh Rosey, enjoy the xanax ... I'm sure she will.

  16. Daryl, oh my, I hope you have a wonderful weekend to make up for the stressful week! It's soon going to be light into the evening. I love a stroll after supper!

  17. Awww - poor, sweet Rose.
It's true- if you're stressed, the cats are stressed. When I worked for a vet, I administered fluids/ "jabbed" them many times. Remember this - most of the time, it doesn't hurt them - what they're reacting to is you. Keep calm and carry on.
    I'm glad she's got some Xanax. :)

  18. Hey, everyone is entitled to a bit of stressing, even a lovely little pussycat. Some of the most outwardly calm folks end up being the ones you hear about going on rampages. Rose deserves a nice mental vacation, so good for the vet for prescribing the pills.

  19. Poor little Rose. Stress can definitely be sick-making. Sure hope things get worked out.

  21. I can't stop laughing! I used to overlook people calling me Helen, totally missing the 'e' at the end of my name - it's easy to do. Then, one day, my pushy stronger twin appeared and started to correct people and that was the beginning of the end of people calling me Helen. And now I have to share this post with a cat-lover friend who has taken in a stray mommy and her 4 kittens. It's a 3-ring circus in her house...talk about stress! I believe I'll be bringing her some Coke!

  22. That is the sweetest picture of Rosie she looks like such a pretty little cat, you and Toonman must be wrecks worrying about her, no wonder there's a bit of stress around, I'd probably be a basket case!! If positive vibes can help, I'm sending some right now. What a funny old cleaning lady you do have!

  23. Poor Rose, she has had a time... And poor you, I'd be a wreck (and broke!) after all that :(.

  24. Aww poor Rose. I hope it helps her. And I'm glad you're not Carol. I'd have to start looking for cedelsteins.
