dog walking

after i did errands this past friday
i spotted this dog walker and his charges
trekking up west 80th

yeah
we still had dead trees on the street friday
trash pick up happened on saturday

architecture

one of my favorite pieces of architecture

on the corner
of
18th street and 11th avenue

it was the first
frank gehry
designed building in nyc

oops

someone forgot to set up a post!
i thought i had
my bad

last week was hectic
i had a vet follow up for harry
he's doing better

i uber'd it twice

waiting on
the traffic
to
 move
before we sped off
i looked out
saw these guys
polishing a sign

the weekend

i am going to lead
with
the view sunday morning
when
i stepped out the front door
 to
pick up the newspapers

on saturday
 on my way home
from
my hair appointment

the marchers were chanting carrying signs, flags and being very peaceful

the police were making sure marchers and traffic kept moving
it made me feel proud

drive by

stopped in traffic on west 19th street
on friday
 on the way to vet

i looked out to see
 this sign being detailed
i couldnt make out what it said
but
i did love the reflections

watching my step ...

a few years back
 after a snowfall
i took a tumble down
these very stairs

for a long while after
i walked to the express station at 72nd street
to avoid another fall

like that woman
when i do go down those stairs
i stay in the middle
i know
it seems
as if
it would make
more sense
 to
 hold onto the hand rail
but
thats where/what i was doing
when i fell

there's a tread there on the right thats skewed
the heel on my snowboots caught
pitching me forward
since i was holding at the time
 i really twisted oddly
 avoiding
somehow
 smashing my face
landing on my knees

i have a scar on my shin
its a reminder
to stay alert
and
 watch my step

a long weekend

i love long weekends
i have today off
(actually its still sunday but for you its now monday sometimes blogging gets confusing)
its
martin luther king jr day

saturday
was
spa day
i didnt get to sleep in
 i did have
a most wonderful massage
 followed by a facial
 a wash/blow dry

i spoil myself

it snowed a bit
in
the early evening

sunday
i slept in
oh yes i did

toonman
fed the cats
and
made 'my' coffee (vs his decaff)
dee-lish

i stayed in my pjs
the
entire
 day

oh yes i did

we ordered pizza
for dinner
half pepperoni
half mushroom
tasted a lot better than it looks

we watched
allied
it was pretty good
so far my favorite movies
we've watched
are
la la land
and
moonlight

lines and angles

the lines and angles
of the interior of the oculus
aka westfield plaza
fascinate me

i c u

this very large mosaic is called
the oculus
its at
the park place
subway station

(below ground the signage reads park place
 but
at street level its chambers street)

there is
 a long pedestrian walkway
 from
 the broadway express
 to
 the queens e train

along the way
one is
 'watched'
by mosaic eyes

one of my favorites

that's up at 81st street
and i love the long 'legs'
i cropped this shot

you didnt want to see the grey/black slush

watch your step

the gloriousness
of
 the white marble
is
overshadowed
by
the fear
of
a misstep
a tumble

i think
 an additional handrail
 down the center
would be
 a good thing

it snowed!

hello snow!
new york city was supposed to get a dusting
we got a few inches
it was cold
really cold
but
it was pretty while it fell

i loved
 seeing people walking their dogs

i loved
seeing the snow on things

i showed this photo to toonman

he said you showed me that
i said no i took this yesterday

well
he said
  you've taken it before

gawd

adorable

it was
a nice unnaturally warm day
 a few weekends ago
when
i spotted this darling pup
waiting outside
one of the many restaurants
along
amsterdam avenue

i am not sure
 what the mix is
but
i am pretty sure
 its partly poodle

every which way

inside calatrava's awesome oculus
angles
arches
buttresses
abound

some say its like being jonah inside the whale

back to work!

that is the terminus of the E train
last stop
all off

i dont ride the E
i ride the 1 2 or 3

the re-building of the PATH
re-opened
a passage between
 the Park Place station
which has stops for both lines as well as the A train
and
 the new World Trade
via the magnificent
Calatrava Oculus

Tuesday morning it was cold enough for me to want to stay underground
so i wandered along the long tiled passage to that old new doorway

i didnt take photos
 til
i was on my way home
some hours later
having
 new photos
 to share
feels good

more later

a small note:
 staying underground
means
 for the near future
there wont be any
under the canopy snaps

sorry

the year-to-date

whine whine whine
no
no
real wine or cheese

i got sick
the friday before christmas
since then
i have been home mostly in bed
coughing
coughing
coughing

the monday after christmas i was feeling a bit better
thanks to some cold meds
the cough persisted
in fact it spasmed my middle back
oh joy

all my plans
for the vacation week
went the way
of
ice packs heating pads lots and lots of tea

apologies
to all those whose comments i didnt reply to
today
is the first day
 despite the coughing
despite the still aching back
i am able to actually sit at my desk for longer than a cough
and
its a total whine fest

i wish i had a decent photo to share
wait

taken this summer
but perfect for this post
i have hope i will get this cough gone

happy new year
