thankful

apologies
to all
my many blog comment leavers
to all my friends whose blogs i follow

 i have been delinquent
in
both replying and visiting/commenting

i blame it all on this long holiday weekend
 on all the friends
i have visited with
 broken bread with
i have been on the go
since
i left the office on wednesday at 1pm

thursday
i slept til almost 11
watched the end of the parade
watched the dog show
then it was time for
thanksgiving prep

i ordered oodles of food
(all pre-cooked so it was a simple heat up)
my sister brought
pies
and
 some additional veggies
i was so worried
 we'd not have enough
we had plenty

nope
no photos of food
we ate it all
 before
 i could even
 think
of
 sharing
 a photo or two

friday
i met my friends and their daughter
at
the whitney

after
 we saw
the Stella exhibition

 and
 the Archibald Motley exhibit

we took a short walk on
the highline

a

then
we needed sustenance
so
 we went to
Bubby's
it was highly recommended
 and
 it did not disappoint

we walked off brunch
took a stroll
down to my office
photo ops from the 43rd floor
plus
photo ops on the memorial plaza

then we all hopped the uptown express
they got off at times square hoping to score tix for Hamilton

i headed home
when i got up to 79 street
the christmas tree sellers had their iconic santa up
for me
this signals
the real beginning of the holidays

saturday
was a much needed spa day for me
my back has been aching for a month
i feel a lot better now
after the spa
i met my friend blondie
 for
 brunch and a catch up
after
 we eat
we usually go shopping
 but
 it was
 nasty rainy
heading home seemed smarter

sunday
i was supposed
to meet another friend
for a visit to MoMA and brunch
 but
 i cancelled
the non stop fun
left
me exhausted
and
i hadnt spent any time with my honey
as i write this he's yelling at the football game

life is good
i am
thankful
for
all that exhausts me
without it
life would be empty

waiting

spotted
 this handsome guy
 back in october
 when
i did the walking tour of bushwhack

i tried very hard
 to
 capture him
 without
anyone in the background
but
 it was a busy street

i soon gave up

season decor

took this a weekend or two ago
walking across to columbus avenue
i had to stop and snap
 a photo
of
the gourds and pumpkins
 decorating
 the steps of that brownstone

sending in the clowns

one thanksgiving morning
many
 many
years ago
i got up
very
 very
 early
 grabbed my 35mm sir
yes
 it was
 long
 before
dslrs
were even an idea
and
 trekked
 through
the damp
the wet
to
central park west at 75th street

it was me and the mounted police
i had
 literally
 a curbside spot
where i waited
 in the cold
 over an hour
maybe longer
for the parade to begin

 this is my favorite photo
from that morning

 i transferred it
scanned it
from the 35mm print
turned it digital
some years ago
to use on a holiday card

i dont think
i have ever shared it here on my blog

 i give the clowns
actually
employees in costume
 of
the macy's thanksgiving day parade

i hope you are all indoors
snug warm
getting ready
for
a day
of family
of friends
of turkey
of football
of
thanks

through the window

back
in
 the middle
of
 october
 during
the open house new york event
we toured
it spans 22-23 streets

walking through
 i glanced over
 .. yup ..
six
 water tanks
water towers
were
spied

another rant

so much going on in the world
 such craziness

 last week
i was going to do a silly post
about
 coffee cups

the insanity
of
the argument
against
 starbucks red cups
 finally seemed to be forgotten
when the horror
of
terrorism in paris
pushed it from the top of the list
 of
whines
posts
 on
 facebook

the terrorism wasn't enough
on its own
 no
 it brought out
all the nasty
all the bigots
the racists
 those who are
anti anything and anyone
 not
like them
 not
 embracing their values
no matter
how ugly
 those values may be

it gave me
 a good feeling
to
 unfriend
some of those spewing their ignorance
by
reposting
ignorant statements
others of their ilk posted

enough

lets look toward this week
a time of thanksgiving
a time for families
for friends
to gather
to be grateful
to live in a country
founded
on
 religious freedom

or
have 'we' forgotten how we came to be?

best friends

i spotted them

while
waiting
 at
park place
i was waiting for the uptown express

they were waiting
for
the brooklyn bound #3 express

the woman and her kids
asked the man
what kind of dog that was
 he replied
 a hugger
 he's a service dog
he works with people
who suffer
with
post traumatic stress disorder

autumn leaves

no
autumn
isn't going
anywhere

neither
are the leaves

here
on broadway
they
eddy
swirl
spiral
twist
collect
merge
huddle

they seem
to
 prefer
the closeness
 of
delivery bike wheels
hey
leaves
they do what they want

its not just paris

getting home friday evening
turning on the news
being
 immediately shocked
then
worried about friends who are in paris
going to facebook to see if they'd posted
yes they were safe

then
i saw a post my friend steve commented on
 last week
 last thursday
 there was another terror attack
 45 innocent people were killed
 it happened in beirut
the capital of a country
whose total population
 is
less than 25% of paris
its also a turbulent country
maybe
thats why
 no one took much notice
no check in page on Facebook
no temporary photo to show solidarity
no constant updates from the media

 i am not usually someone
who blogs about anything more serious
than a bad cup of coffee
but this really bugged me

here's what my friend steve posted

"when you think of paris, 13 november
dont forget beirut, 12 november"

sunshine

it was a very dreary week
yesterday
 the entire day
 was
blah

then
 suddenly
the light through the window
 behind me
got
very bright

 the sun
was making its
presence
felt

pushing
 its way
through
 the brooding clouds
beaming
down
just there
between
ellis and liberty islands

blather

the weekend
 as i write this
 is
 winding down

 toonman
overdosed on college football
recovering
 enough
 to
 watch pro games
he can watch/record five games at a time
on
direct
thanks to their nfl sunday ticket option

 me
i went out for my weekly mani/pedi
this week
i am flaunting a color called wild fire
 its orangey-red

i am also nursing
 a spasm-y back

 all last week
i kept feeling
 little tremors of spasms
in my lower back

 friday
 i left the office early
not just because i could
 but
because i really couldnt sit any longer

 walking is the best medicine
(aside from the ever wonderful methocarbamol)
the worst thing you can do with a wonky lower back
 is sit

i woke on saturday
 to
a full blown bad back episode
i took a full dose
(usually i take only a half)
methocarbamol
and
went on with my usual saturday routine
 including
a walk down to bed bath and beyond on 63rd
on the way back
i stopped at the farmer's market for apples
westside market to grind some coffee
i have a stash of kona coffee from hawaii
i have a small grinder
and
while the 'proper' way to drink good coffee
is to grind only enough fresh beans for one cup or pot at a time
i fly in the face of this edict
i want my coffee beans ground all at once
so i dont have to grind it each time
i take my sack of beans to the market
and
 use their industrial grinder
no one seems to care or notice
 i do my shopping there
 so
its not as if i am taking advantage of their machine
without making a purchase

anyway
 after grinding my coffee
purchasing some essentials
 i walked on to zabars
 visited the eyeman
where
 we get our eyes checked
lenses made
i needed my glasses adjusted
 by the ever fabulous hedda

my lower back really liked the walking
however
by sunday morning
it was no longer feeling good
so more meds were taken
more walking was done

i am hoping by monday
it will be back to normal

 normal
 being
just a twinge
 easily eased
by
 half a pill

whats in a name

that sweet pup was with its master on 8th street near a street fair
he was named after a street
of course
i cannot remember which street
was it
waverly
bleecker
no
but
it was some street in the village
of that
 i am pretty sure

wowza

this amazing sky
 stopped
 me
 several times
on
 my way to the subway
thursday

i had
 had
had
to take pictures

i think some the color
had to do with the morning fog
which
never lifted

 it was
despite the beauty of the morning skies
not
 a bright day

there was
a white out
a morose
look
to the skies over the harbor
so
 no photos of
that
yesterday

its your move

these two workers
were very busy

 i have no idea
what they were doing
but
it looked interesting
photo worthy

you're out and about
you see things
things catch your eye
click
you take a photo

but
do you something wonder
what
about
 this or that
made me think
it would be a good photo
or
do you
 just
point and shoot

nosy bloggers want to know!

window washing wednesday

full disclosure
 they washed
 the windows
 on
tuesday
 which
 was
 the official first anniversary
of
our move
 into
one world trade

he missed a few spots
but
hey
still a lot cleaner now

busy busy busy

this weekend
 was
 even by nyc standards
extremely busy

for me
saturday morning
a facial
a hair appointment
( yi is back
my hair is back to normal)
brunch with my sister

sunday
my Finnish friend liisa & i
both mani/pedi'd
followed by brunch

for new york city
there was

 halloween on friday

the marathon on sunday

the switch
over
from daylight savings
in the wee hours of saturday into sunday

 and
of course
game 5
the world series

(stolen from the internets)

as of this writing
the mets are down by 1 game

i know
ya gotta believe

but
even if
the mets win sunday evening's game
they'd be playing the tie breaker
in the enemy camp
so
