wet weekend wanderings

i did very little wandering
but
 its alliterative

lets see

 on the way home
thursday
i stopped to
shoot this shot
of
santiago calatrava's transportation hub
aka
oculus

friday
was a nice day
good for erranding

 for reading
i finished stephen king's mr mercedes
it was so good
 i immediately read finders keepers
second
of
 a planned 3 book series

now
 of course
i have to wait
 for the next book
thats the part
i dont like
about
series
serials
continuing characters

especially
 since i suspect
i have a feeling
 the next book
will take the characters full circle

meanwhile
reality
saturday
rain was predicted
 only
 for the evening
predicted
incorrectly

on the way to
the spa
on the way from
the spa
to hair appt
it spritzed

spritizing is a very light bursts not quite a drizzle
definitely rain hat/hood needed

later it poured

sunday
another overcast day
rain predicted
only
in the morning
the early morning
right
it spritzed
well past early
some times
hard

donning
 my handy yellow hooded slicker
 brunched it

afterward
my friend cheryl & i
did a little sale perusing
nothing caught my eye
amazing

french bulldogs

meet
rufus and luca

 i met them last fridaycation

rufus (above)
is a year old
luca
a bit older
is
clearly tolerant
of
pal

fridaycation

no
i am not doing this today

today its raining

this was 2 or 3 fridaycations ago
when it was not yet summer
but
 felt like it

unlike today

that glass structure is the
winter garden

surrounding it is the new
brookfield place
a very high end mall with an amazing food court

those sailboats are moored
in the
north cove yacht harbor

if you want to read about
 the winter garden
 and
 its rebirth post sept 11

this and that

if you follow me on instagram or Facebook these photos maybe familiar i got this wonderful 8 inch replica of a nyc water tower from to+wn designs click here for a link to their etsy store in addition to water tower replicas they have designed some very clever jewelry

i took this up on our roof

the wheatgrass that comes with it
has started to sprout
you soak the seeds overnight
plop them on top of the soil
keep it in a dark place for 1-2 days
when it begins to sprout
move into the sun so the grass gets green

here it is on my window shelf
i am hoping there's enough sun

i also found some very funky cool jewelry
artisan community
available
through
storenvy

i am in love with these

i'd regale you with more photos
but
 still waiting
for the cloud techs to finish up

weekend blather

its sunday night
tomorrow
instead of sleeping til 7:30 or 8
i will be up at 4:30
 courtesy
of
the dynamic duo
 jack on jumps
harry on vocals

my iphoto/cloud issue
 is
nearly
again
 nearly
 over

the flood gates aka iCloud photo access
 has been opened
 after
duplication of all photos was made
 once
 they
  the photos
 make the journey
 up/down
 to/from
 the mac and the cloud

 the techs
 will
zap the cloud
 shake it out
 begone evil juju
 and
all the photos
 everywhere
will be gone
erased
zapped
depixeled

which
 is
 why
complete thorough backup
was a prerequisite

thats the long of it
 the short is
i have no photos to share
except

taken on
 saturday
when i was on my way to the spa
 for the much needed
monthly massage
ahhhh
 exhale spa is well named

 friday
 i did nothing
 really
nothing

sunday
toonman
helped me
schlep
 a ton
 of
 never use them
 i could use that space
 stuff
to
 housing works
a more upscale
good will

another trip
next week
with
shoes from the late 60s
boots i dont wear for whatever reason
 anyway
compared
 to
 last weekend
this  one
was a washout
in more ways then the weather
mostly it rained or threatened rain
the sun came out after lunch

we rewarded ourselves
after
we schlepped
the stuff across to columbus/75th
with ice cream

 of course
it was father's day
toonman's two daughters and our 'adopted' son
 called to chat
 individually
not all together

the cats did nothing
 isn't that just like cats

weekend blather

it was a real summery weekend
 sadly
 its over
 rain is expected through wednesday
 this is one wet june
 ugh

 fridaycation
 was spent
with
 a good friend
 we went to the whitney
we had lunch
 in
 the cafe
its on the 8th floor
its got a terrace
 in fact
floors three through 8
 have lovely terraces
with
seating
 views
and
art
that rivals the views

before we went
i called to see if reservations were needed
 i thought
untitled
(the clever name of the restaurant)
was where we wanted to dine

well
no

 its on the ground floor
 while
i am sure the food is good
there's no view
so
 after we got there
 we opted for the cafe
 sitting outdoors under an umbrella
yielded
immediate seating
 vs
a 15 minute wait to sit indoors
 and
 look out the glass wall
 or
ogle the other diners looking out

a no brainer

the move downtown for the whitney
 i heard
 was a tough choice
 the whitney family worried
no one would come
now
you can't keep them away

 renzo piano
 designed the building
i am in love with this building
it reminds me
tho probably no one else
 of
the getty in los angeles
 both
 are
open airy using lots of natural light

another thing i like about it
it contrast sharply with the rest of its neighbors

 i digress

saturday
 was spent
in an equally lovely way
my beautiful goddaughter
was in town
for law school friend's wedding shower
i was/am thrilled
she had time to meet me for brunch
we also dined outdoors
it was an almost humidity free day
spring kitchen on columbus
is
 noisy indoors
but
 a delight
 if weather permits
to sit outdoors

sunday
 was
 devoted to beautification
 being a sloth
 thinking
about
monday

a full plate weekend

i hope you had a good one

harsh

i always
love
morning light
 the best

no matter the season

this time of year
in the early morning
the shadows and the light
harsh contrasts

the way i feel about mornings

i was never a morning person
truly

the sunrise
its a personal affront

there was a time
long past
i could
i would
stay up
late
really late

sleep late

no more

my job
my cats

mornings
we have a truce now

water tower wednesday

i have taken many photos
 of
this particular water tower

 tuesday morning
 amid
the
overcast gloom
 eventual rain
 yes
 i got wet
walking
from chambers street to the office
 because
 hello
it wasn't supposed
 to
 rain
 till later in the day
so
right
 no umbrella

anyway
before all
that
i snapped
this

cropped it
so you could see
 the lovely old facade
of
 what was once
a grand hotel
commissioned by
Albert Saxe
designed by
Emery Roth
in 1903

it was said to be one of the flashiest hotels
 on
the upper west side

once referred to as a skyscraper
it was considered
one of the most luxurious buildings
 in the city

  Roth
 combined
 beaux arts principles
with
 art nouveau-secessionist style

before it was renovated in the mid-2000s
it stood empty for a long time
after a midlife crisis
as an apartment building
i knew someone who lived there in the 1970s

according to the new owners
 past famous guests included
Maxim Gorky, Mark Twain and Babe Ruth

i assume not all at the same time

ladies who lunch and other stuff

friday
 i got to sleep in
 such a lovely thing
not
getting up
at
5 ayem

it was not a nice day
 overcast
rainy
 blah
i did accomplish a lot
 i purged
the closet
the dresser
a pile of shoes
a pile of scarves
a pile of handbags
all going to goodwill

then errands

i had a date with brandon from apple at 5
we spent about 2.5 hours
chatting
 and
trying
to download the 13,000+ photos
(down from 30,000+)
in the cloud
to
the desktop
 to make sure
as a safety precaution
 in case
there was a glitch
 when we synced
the photo app to the cloud
all my photos would be there

in the end
we made another date for saturday at 5
because
well
i wont bore you with the technicalities
leave it at
brandon had to go tend to other needy users

this issue has been ongoing for over a month now
 but
 the end is in sight
 i have whittled 30,000+ down to 8,000+
hopefully
all my apple photos apps
 will
 sync now
stay tuned for the results

saturday
 another rainy yucky morning
 turned
 into
a nice afternoon

my sister's birthday was this past thursday
we waited til saturday to celebrate
i took her to lunch at robert
in
the museum of arts and design
her oldest friend former college roommate joined us
it was nice to catch up
i dont think i have seen her since
well
we couldnt remember when

the view

the interior

the drinks

sunday was a lovely day
street fair
beautification
a walk in the park with toonman
a lemonade stand

its what weekends are about!

watching as the world goes by

they weren't
 exactly
 standing on the corner

and
he seemed more interesting in me

who could blame him

i am sure the word is out:
the woman with the silver hair and jazzy iPhone
is snapping dogs for her blog
pose pretty

game on

took this last friday
 from
 the rector street pedestrian bridge

 that basketball court and garden
 amid
 all the other hustle bustle
intersection
of
albany
and
 west
streets
provided
 an
 interesting photo op

no?

then and now

continuing
 my fascination
 with
 the past

 i did a little search
 came up
 with
this photo from 1911

its part of the new york library collection of old new york
its also a photo of the house
 we live in

 see there
on the ground floor
 those two arched windows

 that's our living room

the wrought iron fence
in front of them
 is
still there
and
the entryway
the front door
is still the same
but
to the left of the entrance
 is now a small garage

the angle of this photo
 i took it in 2004
 is
different
but

 you get the idea

when i was a kid
the sunday daily news
did a photo series in their weekend magazine
 it was
then and now

photos
of
 old new york
 next
 to
photos
 taken in the present

 i loved it

i think
if life  had been different
i might have been an archeologist

 i love the past
its filled
 with
 so much promise

water tower overlooking jay street brooklyn

this was taken on monday

 monday
 here in nyc
was
a
 truly
dreary dank dismal day

i trekked out to brooklyn
 to
attend a friend's book launch party
i took the e train to west 4th
 switched to the f
took that to york and jay
walked
allllll the way down the hill
 to no. 28 jay

this water tower
begged
me
to take its photo

so i did

oh
 the party was really nice
i had lovely evening

sour grapes

i had a great weekend
i went down to the battery
 on
 friday
did a little walk about
had lunch with my friend judy

 heading back
i walked up through brookfield place
 into my office building
out on the street
to walk to the subway

 you know
i work in the world trade center
you know
i have fabulous views from my office windows
you may not know
 that i have been expecting
 to get
a pre-official
opening visit
to
 the new
world trade center observatory

 the observatory
admission
 is
$32
 to see the same views
 i have from my office
 albeit
a bit higher up
well
 that never happened
there were politics at play
i wont even begin to try to explain the whys and wherefores

 i will tell you
on friday
when
the sun shone bright
and
 the skies
were
 clear blue and cloudless
i was not happy

i wasn't going to get to the observatory
 and
 i am petty enough
to
not want anyone
who was
 to
 have a good view

i am over it now

here's a photo
i took on my way to brookfield place

the rest of the weekend'
 was
errands and beautification

sour grapes leave a bad taste
so
here's
 hoping
 everyone who did get up
got some great photos
