things they are achanging ..

many times
in the past
 i have posted photos
of
dogs
sitting outside establishments
that
serve food

 dogs
other than service dogs
 weren't permitted inside
because
 of
 new york state's
 strict healthcode laws

that's changing

 in the very near future
 dogs
all dogs
will
allowed
inside
to sit tableside

there was an article in the paper recently
 wherein
 restaurant managers
owners
 and
patrons
 were interviewed

 apparently
 dogs will be permitted inside
if
the particular
 restaurant
eating
dining
establishment
decides
 that its okay

  i wish these rules
applied
 to
 small children
as well

everything old is new again

apparently
 way back when
  in the late 1700s
 george washington
lived in a rental house on cherry street
 not far from the battery

the battery
 lies
at the south end of manhattan

 more recently
the battery
redubbed
 battery park
 extended
up along the westside of manhattan
 segueing
into
 hudson river park
 which
 is the last leg
 of
 riverside park

 it was bordered
 to the east
 by the westside highway
(route 9w)

 but
things change
 while staying the same

 the battery
spawned
battery park city
 and
the park itself
 which
 also has a marina

 the westside highway
once elevated over a cobblestone street
was torn down
 the cobblestones beneath it
 replaced

 its new name
west street

 battery park city
likely
won't change its name
but
 what was once the battery
 is
now
 once again
 the battery

if i haven't bored you yet
you can read
more
about
here

i can see battery park city
from my office aerie

last time
i actually walked
 along there
 was
a year ago july

i hope to get there again soon
it sounds like a nice way
 to spend a fridaycation

 its got some spectacular views

fleet week, no, not really

last week was fleet week
i got to see the parade of ships
 up the hudson

i missed the thunderbird fly over
but
 hey you cant have everything

i think this is a sweet shot
a lovely old masted schooner
being guided out into the harbor
by several modern tugboats
behind it is governors island

wow, water towers galore

its pretty insane
 that
 right
 there
in
my own rooftop 'backyard'
there are all these water towers
 i never noticed
 right?

 this past weekend
 toonman and i
 went up to the roof
he's helping our friends
 who are away
 watering the new plantings

 a long time ago
when we lived on the top floor
in our studio apartment
 the roof
was
an extra room

 there were
 plants
trees
deck chairs
it was lovely

 after
 we moved downstairs
to
the ground floor
the roof
 was
no longer a place
 we spent time

 odd
 because
 it wasn't
 as if
we had to travel
 to get there

it was but a short elevator ride away
vs
a two flight of stairs walk

 anyway
over the intervening years
 our friend
stopped planting
he had a house and property in connecticut
where he could garden to his heart's content

 back in the city
 up on the roof
the weather
 the elements
 took their toll
on
 the redwood plancking
the deck chairs
 the planters

 it was sad

a few months ago
our friend decided to reinvent the roof garden
he brought up
some of the outdoor art
he'd brought to the city
after he sold the connecticut house

its looking really nice up there
i brought the camera up with me
i didnt take pictures
of
the art or the plants
i will later in the season
 when the plants are larger
 the trees in bloom
the grape vines are twining the trellis

 i did take this

 i am astounded
that all the days
 i spent up there
in the past
i never
 noticed
all
these
water towers

 its pretty insane

on being a sloth

there is a lot to be said
 for
doing next to nothing
sleeping past 7 or even 8 ayem

 when on vacation
 i rarely sleep in
 there's too much
 to do
 to see

long weekends at home
are made for being lazy
sloth like

 lets see
 what did i do

 slept til almost 10
 on
 friday
lazed around a bit
went out to do a few errands
then
back to watch some amazon prime with toonman
a total do nothing day

followed by
 sleeping in til almost 9
on
saturday
at 10 i left the house
bussed across town
got massaged facial'd
 did a bit of shopping
 on the eastside
 did a bit of erranding
 on the westside
had my hair washed blown dry
home to watch some net fix with toonman

slept til 8
 on
 sunday
got my weekly mani/pedi
walked a bit through the yearly memorial day street fair

i got toonman out for a walk in the park
the community gardens are blooming

i plan on sleeping in for sure
on
monday
(your today, my tomorrow)
then
 who knows
 maybe lunch with my sister
before
mentally preparing
 for the return to work

  oh yeah
we and by we i mean the cats
  got a new toy
 a catball™ bed

as you can see they love
 well by they
 i mean the boys
 annie seems to have decided
 that it
like
the scratching post(s)
the couch
 and
 the ottoman
is not of interest to her
 as
those
 are the places
the boys favor

this is as close as annie wants to get
and
  i should explain
 the bubble wrap
behind which
lie toonman's
vinyl
records
albums
at some point
 jack decided
they were a good place to scratch
i thought
bubble wrap would stop him
 or
 at the very least
if he put his nails into it
 it would pop
 and
he'd stop
so far its working fine
tho it looks a bit insane

also none of these photos are either edited or signed

not a dog

nope
not a dog
this is a lion
 my friend michele hanlon
 shot
when we visited the awesome cincinnati zoo
with
our mutual friend mary

the shot i got was not good

yes! fridaycation!!!!

its that time of year again
 fridaycations
begin
 today

they don't end till labor day

a whole 3 months of do nothing fridays

 i am going to enjoy
 sleeping late
 being lazy
or
 maybe
actually doing things

 who knows

 thats the beauty
 of
 time off
free time
 no
 must
 be here
 or
there

make like a bump on a log

or

 go chase sunsets

go blow your horn

i will
 i am

a friend's book was published
there'll be a launch party soon

 today
 a mutual friend
 forwarded me
 a review of the book
its a good-ish review
i hope she sells a ton of books

 but

i am also tickled for me

the photo
i took of her for the back cover
 was used in the review

wooootūüéČ

weekended

its sunday late afternoon
 i am tired
i didnt sleep well last night

 i clench my teeth
 which causes a headache
 as well as
 a jaw ache
 tho
the headache trumps that
since i got a bite guard
nevertheless
i had a headache all night
so
at 6ish
i got up
 the cats were thrilled

anyway
i did get a lot done
 aside from beautifying
i had lunch with my friend cheryl
 then
we went downtown
to do a little wandering
 a little window shopping
a little real shopping
came back uptown
i picked up my new glasses
i spent some time deleting photos from the iCloud
we watched two series season finales
 more exciting life cannot be

 i spent more time today
 (sunday)
 deleting more photos
then
 i gave up

i am going to let the iCloud
 download
 to
the photo app on my iMac

after thats done
i suspect
i will be deleting
 duplicates
triplicates
who knows how many-cates

once thats all done
see if i can get my photos to the iphone
without causing
 the cloud to clog

if i didnt have a headache
 this would give me one
 in fact
 i believe it has

here's a photo
 not in the cloud
one i took with the iphone
 down on lafayette street
outside a bike rental shop

gus and sam

i didnt take any new dog photos
 this week
or
last

i was too deep in iCloud issue hell

yesterday
(actually today for me, tomorrow for you)
i went looking through my dog file
in the
not
 in the
 iCloud photos

when i came across this one
 i stopped

that
was our gus
he was the best cat ever

that
was sam
an akita mix
he belonged to a friend's son

all that is left of these two are memories

iclouds, photos, techs, oh my

this photo was taken early on wednesday evening
its a good thing i took it
because
 later that evening
 my computer
was
 'taken over'
by
apple's uber cloud techs

they'll be figuring out
what the heck is going on
 why the iCloud isn't communicating
 with
my photo apps and vice versa

part of the investigation
digging into the why not
required freezing
the iCloud
cutting it off
stopping
it from
interacting with
my iPhone and iMac

 all my over 23,000+ photos
(hard to believe
 i have
deleted
 or
 saved to a thumb drive
over
 6000 photos
since
 sunday)
are safe in the apple vaults

they will
be
returned
downloaded
to
my various devices
after
 everything is working properly

it was fascinating
 to discover
how many times
i have taken the same photo
of the church on the corner
of WTC
of the cat(s)
of
well
a lot of things

i also discovered
its not so hard to be ruthless
to delete photos
to acknowledge
not
every
shot
is
 a winner

i discovered
there were duplicate
occasionally triplicate
copies
of
the same image
not
that i shot it more than once
but
that it uploaded more than once

the fabulous brandon
 assures me
 the uber tech group
will have some answers for me on friday

 i love puzzle solving

wordless, somewhat, wednesday

i cannot remember
 where i was
when i took this photo
but
i will tell you
that originally
the photo was very much a silhouette

the sum was so strong
everything in the foreground was black
in shadow
the sky dominated

 i messed with it
 got the exposure to balance
 a bit better
 then
had to hit it with some topaz simplify
its still way off

i would have used another photo
one of the over 29,000
i had in the iCloud
 but
 ever since this past weekend
i have been retlentlessly weeding out
 the duplicates
the same old same old shots
trying to get a more reasonable library

 not easy
but
i am going to do it

turned out the iphone was not the issue
the problem lies in connecting to the iCloud
and
that may be
in part
due to the humongous size
of my photo library

nevertheless
it has spurred me
to take action
and
purge

weekend

left the office early on friday
 it was a pretty day
 after
 the fog dissipated

 saturday
i spent 2+ hours at apple
they replaced
my fairly new but not working properly phone
 with a new one
so far it seems to be working
as it should
time will tell

i got new eye glass frames
i will show you once they're 'done'
followed that with erranding

there was also
a iPhone screen protector fiasco
 i am not pointing fingers
but
when i went to get another protector
i had the nice woman in the store apply it
so thats done
 as are my nails
and
 other beautifications

 saturday
 was
 chillier and damper
 than forecast
my hair looks a bit worse for it
 but
 you know
there are more important things to stress about

sunday
was
mother's day
i hope all of you who are mothers
and
those of you who have mothers
had a lovely day

walking the dogs

my walk to the subway
in the morning
 coincides
with a lot of dog walkers
dog walking
like this
taken on the fly
its not as focused
as
i would like

the color of light

once a long time ago
 i observed
light against a wall
i pointed it out to toonman
look at the color of the light

he said
light has no color

no
i said
see that
that's the color of light

the other morning
i saw it again
this time
i took a photo of it

i love the color of light
especially this time of year

dont you

almost wordless

looking out and up
 of
the crosstown bus
 at
80th street approaching columbus avenue
those tents?
the annual crafts on columbus

making the bed

i dont understand this phrase
 no really
 i dont

let me tell you
 when i was growing up
we didnt have flat sheets
i didnt know what a flat sheet was

 ok
 i did
but
 i thought
 it was a sheet
with ends tucked in on all sides

a fitted sheet was a lot less work
i am all for a lot less work

 my mother made the beds
if she left if to us
 my sister and i
it was likely
 we smoothed the blankets
putting the pillows on top

 our blankets
both winter and summer
 were encased in blanket covers
similar
but
not at all like duvet covers
they were zippered at one end
 the blanket
 was
 inside it

we had blanket covers in different colors
to match the sheets and pillow cases

i am not sure when the last of my blanket covers died
 or
when we
 my husband and i
 began using flat sheets

 i do know
 that
every time
 i am present
when my husband makes the bed
i never make the bed really i dont see the point
he complains
the flat sheet is too long

 yesterday
 instead of ignoring him
 i said:
i dont know from flat sheets
 i never had flat sheets
i dont understand the purpose of a flat sheet
 but
 i do know
 that its extra long
 because
the bottom gets annoyingly tucked in
making something called hospital corners
tho not on my side oh no if my side is tucked in i must untuck it or i feel trapped
the top gets folded over the blanket
 making a sort of
i am not even sure what the word for it is
is there a word for it
i am sure there is

 i said to him:
i do not get the point of a flat sheet

 he said:
its so the blanket doesn't touch your skin

 touch skin?
 most people wear pjs
i used to sleep in the nude
 now i sleep in a t-shirt
 unless
i am sleeping in a bed other than my own
as in visiting a friend's home or staying in/at a hotel

really
i think this top sheet thing falls into the
'why is this still a thing'

if i could find blanket covers
we'd never have a flat sheet
discussion again

don't shop, adopt!

this adorable little boy
 was recently adopted
 from a shelter
 in lebanon, ohio

 i met him
his person
 and
 the other sweet pup
she adopted
while visiting there
 a few weeks ago

its a deeply satisfying feeling
to
 give an animal
 a forever home

i mean
just
look at those
faces

oh so many ways

to crop a photo how does one decide i couldn't so here they all are

that's a weeping cherry tree
i saw one in cincinnati
when i was there a few weekends ago
prior to that
i had never seen one before

its truly a beautiful work of nature

happy may!
