blather

left the office
 very early on friday
 hung out at home relaxing

 saturday
 i got up
 got dressed
went out
intending
 to do
 the erranding
 after
 i did some
beautifying

 well
as i walked up the street
arms filled with dirty clothes heading to the dry cleaner
 there
 were
snow flurries
 flurrying
 about

 damn

 after my hair appointment
 i headed home
 errands would wait til sunday
 especially zabars
 where
 bus loads
 of
 out of town shoppers
 were
 about to make it
 even more of a challenge
 for neighborhood shoppers

 my plan to stay in
 was
thwarted
 when
i went to get something for lunch
 only to find
nothing
 interesting

 i looked out the window
no snow

 put on a coat
 headed out

 as always
i went to the furthest point
 i prefer to
work
shop
my way back uptown

dropped off a broken necklace at gold mine jewelers on 72nd
popped into lululemon on 74th
westside market at 77th
for their practically mayo free egg salad onion rye for toonman some guacamole some chips
 coffee at fika on 78th
where i ran into an old friend and her husband
 a former co-worker of mine
we had a good catch up
 before
i went on to the eyeman on 81st
to find out
why
frames ordered in mid january still hadn't arrived

  all errands accomplished
 home again

sunday
 was
 a much nicer day
 it was palm sunday
 a fact
 that escaped me
 til
i was almost up to broadway
 all angels church
was
 holding an outdoor service
 i couldn't resist snapping a few photos

after my mani/pedi at polished
i met my sister for brunch
at
 eric kayser
this time
it was as good as the first
 good enough
to erase the last not so great meal there

we walked back uptown
 stopping in papyrus
 did you know
 they carry some nice
and
 not so cheap
 jewelry
we both bought earrings

took this shot
 because
 who could resist bunnies!

not for sale

behind
the 'friends' apartment building
 at
bedford and grove
there is also an odd little stand alone house
 which
originally was on the upper eastside
at some point
 it was literally moved downtown
 to this triangular spot
 its now up for sale

the owners are likely
 not
selling
 their dog
 seen here
 with
the house

hello its spring

this past saturday
 while
out and about in the west village
 there
 was
this

behind
this lovely wall
is
 the jefferson market garden

that
spire
that
tower
is
 atop
 the jefferson market library
originally
known as
 the jefferson market courthouse
 its located at
sixth avenue and west 10th street

you can read about it here

this and that

live and learn
 i say

 toonman
did
 just that
having waited as (well practically) usual
 for me
 to
 remind him
 to
 'do a toon'

he sat down
last night around 8:45
and
 got that error message
 i posted yesterday
 in place of his toon

i am sure the toonlet site
will be fine
for the toon
 he's planning
 for
next week

 right, honey

yesterday
tuesday
i had a long overdue lunch
 with
 a blogging friend
i had not seen for 5 years

 we know its that long
because the birth of her now 5 year old grandson
was the reason for the last broken date
 by the by
little henry
 now
 has two younger sisters

elizabeth aka biffwix

posted
 all about lunch
  here
on her blog

she's also is an instagrammer
you can go there
 to see her photos
under the
@biffwix tag

and of course wednesday
wordy or wordless
wouldn't be wednesday
without
a water tower
and
a bonus
a ghost sign

the food post

social butterfly
am i

 friday
my friend judy met me for lunch
we had a nice leisurely time
in the food court in brookfield place
after
i went home in the snow

 saturday
 i met my friend melissa
 and
 some other people
we know
 for
 the annual instagram worldwide meet

we wandered the west village
it was nice in the sun
in the shade not so much

 after an hour or so
 we
 melissa and i
needed coffee
we popped into a small place
on hudson

when we came out
 everyone was gone
 they'd walked on ahead
 without us

 we looked up hudson

 we looked down hudson

we shrugged

we took
our not very hurt feelings
 to
on
west 4th
for
brunch

 i had
the most delicious
 avocado on thick toast
 a side of scrambled
excellent coffee
 and
 lots of good conversation

sunday
 was
 much nicer
much sunnier
i beautified
stopped at zabars
got my own avocado to mash

 considered
dragging
 toonman out for a walk
but
 it really wasn't warm enough
 maybe next weekend

self promotion

you know
 i make our holiday cards
from my photos

 i also make cards
 for
 friends birthdays
 actually
i make cards
 for
 lots
 of
 occasions

if you're interested
i could make cards for you
yup
ask me
i sell them

 this shot
was taken
at
the cat museum in amsterdam
this past fall
i used it
on a birthday card
for
someone
 who loves cats
especially
 black cats

not so wordless

just a few words
 few for me
 anyway

 saw the dentist/periodontist
 who said
 there's nothing going on

 that the sensitivity to
hot
 cold
 food
 chewing
breathing
 which
 started on thursday
 amped up on saturday
 disappeared almost completely monday
was
 likely
a renegade nerve
acting out

 i guess
thats good news
personally
i prefer
when
there's an actual cause
 that
 can be acted on
 excised
 banished
 forever

not so this time

 look up
and
over
see the tiny point peeking out

well
 you know
you can barely see it

i know its there
so you'll have to take my word
that's the water tower atop our building!

TWTW

the weekend that was

 rainy all day saturday
 didnt stop me
 from
bussing across town to the spa
for a much needed
 massage
a facial
 a temporary escape
from a mouth ache
not exactly a toothache
 i will explain
 for months
 i was eating crunchy foods
lots of chewing
 i noticed when i yawned
the 'hinge' of my jaw on the left side
 - with me if its a problem, its on the left side .. really -
felt
as
 if
it was out of whack

who do you tell something like this

i decided
when next i went to the dentist
 i would point it out

 thursday
my jaw and my left - see i told you - upper teeth
which are under a bridge
were achy
no
not achy
 sensitive
 to cold
 to hot not so much

 i toughed it out
eating softer food at room temp

 friday
 it seemed to be worse
 it seemed to stop

i took some pain meds
i reasoned
if it was a nerve thing
it wouldn't be responding to pain meds

 needless to say
i did call the dentist on friday
but
opted not to see one of his associates
as he was not in

i made an appointment for tuesday
hey
 its not an emergency
he was booked pretty tightly on monday
 meanwhile
 the massage
 the facial
 relaxed me
the pain meds really relaxed me

 the weather was so nasty
 i did my thing
 went home
vegged out

sunday
 was
supposed to be nicer
 well
 it wasn't raining
i guess that made it nicer
but
it was that cold to the bone chill
that comes with an early spring day with no sun

 i manicured
 then
 home
 my jaw/tooth/whatever ache
 seemed gone
 yeah
 now
 its not throbbing
 its feeling
more
like a root canal
 might be coming
 aaaaaaaaggggggh

thanks in advance

another bus stop

i told you
i am participating in apple's os x beta program
 well
 its messing with my photos
 i won't go into
 the hows
or
 the whys
because
 frankly it makes me crazy

the alternative is quitting the program
 i looked into it
 its far more involved
 than merely saying
 i am quitting
so i am sticking with it
 hopefully
 when the bugs are gone
i will not be so annoyed

 meanwhile
 i was looking
 for something to write about
when i remembered this photo

i took
it weeks ago
maybe months ago

 i think
it was one of the mornings
i bus across to the eastside
for a massage

 in any case
it was sitting on my desk top
waiting
 to be

it feels like not winter

5:15
 last night
 as
i walked up
 from 72nd street
 it felt
 like
 spring

 people were walking
not
double timing it
to get
from
here to there

 waiting for the bus
 wasnt torture
 even
the
foreverandaday wait
that
is
 the m104

and a water tower too

this is
 looking east
up
 barclay street

that tall oddly shaped building
 was designed by frank gehry

the double cone head building below it
 is a very old building
no idea who designed it or how old it is
nor
do i know how old or what the columned building is
 but
 if you squint
you can see
 a water tower
there to the right of the cone heads

weekend whines

while
not
a particularly busy
 or
 even
exciting weekend
it was filled
 with
 some
 worth writing about
moments

lets look back to friday

 first
i believe i told you
how our television provider account had been hacked
i thought it was all settled

 wrong

the newest bill was less by a few dollars
who questions lower bills?

 me

after comparing
 january/february bill
 with
 february/march bill
 i called
spent a lot of time on hold
 spoke to two different reps
 finally
 its resolved

or
so i thought

saturday
we got an automated phone call
 instructing us
 to
use the mailer provided
 to
 return
the
 disconnected 'box'

okay

 well

 we
dont
 have
 but
two boxes
both are connected

i decide
i dont feel like dealing with it
i dont call to say the obvious

 but
then
 the buzzer buzzes

toonman goes to see who/what
 returns
with
a big cardboard box

 as soon as
i see the name on the box
i call the provider

wtf!

did i not clear this up?!?!

why
 are you sending me
a box
 to return something
 i
dont
have
never
have
had
 and
you know it

many many apologies
followed by
queries of anything else they can help with

i am sure something else will happen
but for now ...

recently apple
 asked
 if
i wanted
to be part of
 their latest beta test

sure

  i backed up my computer
 downloaded the beta update
 and
spent hours
testing the new photo app

eventually
i got figured it out

however
a call to apple happened
as well as
5 reports
 via
 the 'feedback assistant'
 outlining
the
most
annoying
bothersome
 bits

speaking of photos
i shot my very first portrait

a friend has written her memoir
she's had a very interesting life
at one time or another she's been
an agent
 a manager
the head of one of the largest theatrical agencies in the world
 a producer of broadway shows

she needed a head shot for the book cover
and
asked me to shoot it

toonman helped with the lighting on the indoor shoot
our friend bill helped with some of the interior shots

 i shot over 100 photos
she whittled them down to 3
we ended up with one we all liked

i will get photo credit on the book flyleaf

i am going to prevail on some of my friends
who shot manually
 to
 teach me
 what
i have spent 35 years
avoiding

avoiding
 what?
you ask

well
 i have no idea
 how to use my camera
 except in program mode

honestly
i point
i shoot

 this weekends photo shoot
showed me
 i need to learn
how to use the camera

 i guess
 i can't keep getting by
just relying on my 'eye' any more

   i beautified
 got a hair cut
 as well as
the weekly mani/pedi
errands were done
time was spent outdoors
in the sun
even tho the wind was icy cold

frisky

back in late february
after several snow falls
it warmed up a bit

there was a lot of clean up
 but
 at the intersections
there were still hillocks of filthy snow

i was walking up from the 72nd street subway
behind
a young woman with a frisky dog
 as she walked
 he insisted
on
inspecting
 every snow mound
 climbing atop several
eating the snow

at 79th street
they paused
waiting for the traffic light to change
 i was behind them
 i whipped out my phone
 snapped a few quick shots
before
 the light changed

 i am sorry
i didnt get to ask his name
i think of him as
frisky

religion and politics

are the conversational topics
 one should avoid
in polite company
its safe to talk about the weather

all the photos i have taken recently involve weather

see

wordy with a water tower and a bit of history

i love
the many views my office gives me
i love
the ferries
 i love
the water taxis
i love
how every day
the same view is different

over there
 on the far right
see that big water tower/tank

 across the river
 thats governors island
at one point housed an army installation
that brick building there
 sort of behind the crane
thats fort jay and castle williams

 you can click
  here
to read about
its history

dear march, come in ...

but
 please
leave
your
 gray skies and snow
elsewhere

saturday
 the sun
 the lack of icy winds
 belied
 the low temperature
i did errands

sunday
i beautified
afterward
on my way home
snow flurries

oh march you are a stinker
