crossing them off the list

yup
 two
of
 my most desired photo ops
 happened on sunday
i spent the day up in the woods
in the wilds
of
the bronx

in
 the
 new york botanical gardens

this
 may not
 be a spider web
it might be a moth thingie
i am counting it as a web

 a web
 you can
 actually
see
vs
 the previous times
i have tried to snap one

a rainbow
okay so not a big vibrant rainbow
a rainbow
none the less

the bonus shot
 the icing on the cake
of
 a lovely day

that
 young buck
 wandered
across our path
he didnt freak when he saw us
which
 was
 odd
 nevertheless
 i only had a 35mm lens
so
i am pretty stoked

bentley

bentley
is
 a sheltie

 such a sweet boy

 i met him
 at
polished beauty bar
where
 he waited
while
his person got a manicure

 Broadway and 72nd Street
Devin Troy Strother (b. 1986)
Rae’Shawna & Dee’Shawna (with that John McCracken Lean), 2014
Based in New York and Los Angeles, Devin Troy Strother makes figurative sculptures that both critique and explore the power of caricature. Cut from painted aluminum, they retain the artifice of a stage flat or silhouette. The leaning installation is a reference to the late John McCracken’s famous colored plank sculptures,  but these sparkling, shimmying figures are decidedly maximalist in their exuberance and energy.

wordy wordy wednesday

lets see
these
 are
 a few of the things
 that
occupy my mind
 these days

its officially autumn
personally
i like autumn and spring best
 they're usually
 moderate temperate seasons
vs
 the heat/humidity of summer
 the endless cold/snow of winter

 someone
 i forget who
told me
the almanac
 predicts
 this coming winter
 will be
 as
bad
 as
 last

isn't that delightful

 not

 the boss's office
is
 packed
 i made the boxes
 he packed
 i taped
 it was fairly painless

 the move is on schedule
most of the actual
tag/pack
 will happen
 the week of october 20
when
 i am
 not
here

 oh you didnt know
 yup
i will be in amsterdam

i wanted to go the week of november 10
after
 the move

 my boss
believed
the move would not happen on time
he asked me to go in october

 well
 i told you so
 isn't cool to tell bosses
 but
i can say it here

 i told you so

 of course
the move will happen on time
 its historical
seriously
 it is
we are
we will
 be
 the very first tenants
 of
#1 world trade center
formerly the freedom tower
 to move in

our internet group and the media group executives
will be moving in first
 the next wave of moves
will follow
through
 february
 when everyone will be downtown

 i am sure
 based
 on
 how smoothly our moves go
 the subsequent moves
 may not go on time
 but
i doubt there will be huge delays
 anyway
 its all going forward
 october 31st
is
almost in sight
36 days away
as of this post to move day

 television
have you been watching the new season?
 the returns of old favorites?

 monday evening
we watched
gotham
 it was/will be
 my first/last viewing
 in my opinion
not all it was hyped to be

did you watch? what did you think?

 oh
 i read a good book
 a book
 that
literally
made me laugh cry not be able to stop reading
jojo moyes one plus one

there's more rattling around my mind
but
i will save it for another post

oh no

you know
 i am a voracious reader

 i have
 real books on shelves
 in our bedroom
 books
 i have read
but
 can't part with
 because
 i might read them
again

 yes
 i often re-read books
 i re-read
 the stand
every few years

 i know
 i am crazy
 but
 sort of harmless

i also have
 both
nook and kindle apps
 on my iPad
i have read and archived many books

 lately
 i have embraced
 ya books
they are often
far more
 involving
 better
written
than
 books
 for us oldsters

they also
 for some reason
 seem
 to
 all
 be trilogies

occasionally
there are longer series

in my experience
 those
 tend to be formulamatic
 and
not
 very good

 recently
 three trilogies
where i read the first books
released the second or third book

 in one case
it had been so long between books
 i could not remember
 who was who

i had to go back to the last book
and
re-read the last chapters

in the most recent read
i was completely lost
i had it confused with another series
 add
 to that
the author decided to have the chapters
 narrated in the first person
with
 no
 indiction
 of
who was speaking

 that really bugged me

oddly
once i got with the program
i loved it
 now
i am going to have to wait
 12-18 months
for the next installment

that
my friends
 is
 my biggest issue
 with
these books

 maybe its me
 being older
maybe my memory
isn't what it used to be

 no

 that is definitely
 not
 the case

i have an incredibly scary memory
 i only don't remember things
 i choose not to

really
 if
 i was
 listening reading watching
 its
 there
 forever

 anyway
 i am between books

 to kill time
when things here
 at the office are quiet
 i occasionally
 indulge
 in a game called bejeweled
 its simplistic
 but
 it keeps me
 from
online shopping or staring into space

 the iPhone upgrade
 apparently
 blew the game out
its no longer loading

at some point yesterday
 in my search
 for
a simple diversion
 i looked at candy crush
oh
 why
did
do
 that

'cause
 you know
 now
 i
 am
hooked

(these remind me of candy crush)

nillie

after
 our walk
 last weekend
 as
we were about to cross riverside drive
 i saw this young girl
with
 an adorable puppy

 may i take a photo?

 sure
she said

 she stood next to me
 so
the puppy would look at us

  i asked
 if she'd hold her
 so
i could get them both

she was happy to pose

 i asked the dog's name
 of course
i now am not sure
 if i recall it correctly
 but
 i think
it was
nillie

i thought it was friday

but
it was only thursday

its been an exhausting week
 between
 mundane and irritating
 the issues
that have been dealt with this week
 made me so tired
 i was sure
 yesterday
 was
 friday

 i am so glad
 today is
 i am so glad
my bosses are out of the office today
 i am so glad
boss #1 is away until a week from tuesday
i am so glad
 all his files
 all his papers
 all his crap
are
 now
 packed

 i am
 so glad
 so glad
 the weekend is here

 i am going to relax

wordy thursday

this is the photo
 i sat for
literally

shot it
 under the canopy
in the style of
a themed series of photos
i post
 on instagram

i am sure i told you about it
 even
sharing some of the photos
 anyway
 that's the shot

i have been reading
 in fact
just finished
 a series of 3 books
i hope there will be more
 by alison gaylin
 about a female private investigator
 who has a memory condition
 she never forgets
 anything

they are a very good read

also
 with
 no decent television
until
 later this month
 we have been watching
 the past 3 seasons
of
 a
very good
 very clever
 series
 showtime airs
called
episodes

 we're almost done with it
new season will begin in january
seems a long way off
tho time passes quickly
 these days

my office move is now, as of today, 42 days away

some of you
 may remember
the post about the last move
 the boxes
my wonderful but obsessively controlling boss

 this time
 he hired movers
 to pack his office
 of course
 since then
he's decided
he will pack and move his papers
himself

i was to get him
 fifty (50) small boxes
that will hold papers
 ten (10) larger 'longer' boxes
 lots of packing tape
and
black markers

 check
 check
 check

 monday
 he asked me to
'put together two of the larger boxes'
 i did
 he filled them
 i taped them shut
 he labeled them

tuesday
he had them sent to his home
he's going to do this
 with
all
 the boxes
so they're done right
 and
he'll have them delivered
 to the new offices
 unpack them
himself
 so its done
right

riiiiiight

water tank project

the water tank/tower project is really truly underway

no

those are not my photos

i did not climb a ladder to get up there

but
now
that i know where they are
you know
i will be taking my own

from the ground
thank you

if its monday, its blather

friday morning
i decided
 to
 empty the litterbox

 my back decided
 it wasn't happy
 it decided
 to show me
 how unhappy it was
 by
 spasming

 not
 at
 the lower vertebrae
 no

 in the
middle
of
my back/spine
and
 just enough
 to make me
freeze
 hold my breath
 hope
 it wasn't going
 to
make me
unable
to
move
 walk
 sit

slowly
i straightened up
ok
 seems to be an aberration
 or
 so i thought
til i got to the office
 and
sat down

 standing back up
was
 extremely unpleasant
 drugs were needed
 drugs were taken
spasms eased

 lucky for me
 my monthly massage
was
 scheduled
 for saturday

on the downside
the weather was skitzo
 i was supposed
 to
 sit for a friend
who is shooting a series of portraits
 then
we were going to meet another friend
 for
 some photo op hunting
on the lower east side (les)

 the massage really helped
 i am sure
 the 3 meloxocam
 i took friday
 not all at once
over the course of the day/evening
 left
some relaxant residue
 helped

the weather and traffic
due
 to

 a new york roadrunner race
 down
 fifth avenue
 was
 insane

 photo shoot rescheduled
photo hunting postponed

sunday
my back spasms persisted
but not enough to slow me down

as beautiful a day
as you would want in mid september
   it was chilly

sun shining
 cloudless skies
it warmed up

there was mani/pedi'ing
followed by
the portrait sitting
when my friend sends them i will share
afterward
toonman and i took a walk in the park

we were not alone!

3 dog morning

on my morning walk to the subway
 i pass
 shops opening
cleaning crews finishing up the night shift
streets being hosed down
women on their way to yoga and/or morning work outs
delivery trucks unloading
the occasional off their meds weirdos
people waiting for cabs or buses
business people exiting the beacon hotel
 and
 the dogs
who wait
outside
 starbucks

 this particular morning
 there was 3
 all
 intent
 on watching the door
waiting
 for
their people

and now for something completely different

after
 the seriousness of yesterday
i
 personally
 needed
 something fun

 toonman
 pointed
 out
this
 little
 bud

 it reminded me
 of
those little minions
from
 that
animated movie
despicable me

water tower silhouettes

ok
so
 they're
not
exactly
silhouettes

 they were
 til
 i tweaked the photo
 to
 brighten the sky

 no
i dont remember where they are

i can't even recall when i took it

weekend recappage

while
 i hate
 seeing summer end
 if i had to choose
between
having
 weather temperatures humidity like saturday
 vs
 sunday

 it would be a choice
 made with some sadness

 i would choose
 sunday's fall like feel
 to
the oh my gawd i am melting of saturday

speaking of saturday
i went to governors island
the best part of the day
 was the ferry ride
 7 minutes
 of
breeze
 wind
air moving

 if you're here visiting
or
you live here
 but
 have never been

 go

 the ferry is mostly free
other times its $2 round trip

the actual governors island ferry building
 is
adjacent to the staten island ferry terminal
 on
south street

there was an art fair
those are plastic drinking cups held together with those ziplock tie thingies

this huge giraffe
was
 covered in graffiti
i confess
to using my 300mm lens

it was hot
i wasn't in the mood
to get closer

 sorry

there is a bike rental place
all manner of bikes are rentable

my friend and i
got
 this little pedal cart
it was a lot of work
we had to stop for coffee

 as pretty as
the island is
 as filled
 with
art and history (google it) it is
nothing
 compares
 to
 the view
from
 the promenade facing lower manhattan

sleeping beauty

did you think
i wouldn't
post
a puppy

this really stopped us
on our way to the park
 last weekend

that dog
 was
so happy
 so relaxed
 so funny looking

 i asked
if i could take the shot
 the guy said
 sure
the dog just had a bath and was enjoying the sun

sure
 looked
 like
 he
was

today is ...

 today
 is
 the birthday
of
 my best friend
 the man i love
 more than anyone
 more than anything

he's my everything

 happy birthday
my honey

i would follow you anywhere

yes, its the end of summer

full day friday

  no
 sleeping past 5:30

no
lazing around the apartment

 no
head start on errands

no

 meet up for photo hunting

no
walk in the park

 no
 lunch with friends

no
fridaycation
 again
til end of may

 full day of work

sigh

dig it

those machines
 greeted me
 no
 not literally
 silly
when i walked up west end
 to
 79th street
wednesday morning

 it was
 a
 much nicer morning
 temp/humidity wise
 but
i suspect
wednesday afternoon
 was
very noisy
 due
 to
those machines
tearing up
 the street
 then
repaving it

 last spring
the same was done to our street

 there are also two movies
 or
 maybe
 tv shows
 filming
 just a block west

we live
 in
a very
alive
active
utilized
neighborhood
area

something
 is
always
 going
 on or off

you get the picture

now
 i did
 mean
 that
 literally

3 water towers 3 water towers

okay
 so
the top of the one closest is cut off
i tried to get it in the shot
my 35mm was not wide enough

 nevertheless
 there
 are
3 others
the last one down the line
is
hard to see
 its in shadow

 so look hard

 the opportunity to photograph them
was the promise of my lurker friend susan
whose apartment
 i visited
 a few weeks ago

it was
 from
her window
 the photo
 of
the little houses on pomander walk
were taken

still need
 to
 get back to see those
from
 the ground

 speaking of ground
 we took
 two nice walks
 this past weekend
the longer
was about 3 miles
 its the long loop
uptown past the gardens
down along the river
 to pier one
 then
 up the stairs
carefully
  through the park to 79th

 its a good walk

the second walk was the sunday
a short up to the garden and back

walking back
looking out onto the river
a huge tanker
seemed to be anchored
 toonman
suggested
i take a photo

 i considered it
 walking
 looking
 out
 off

walked
 right
into
 a
lamp post

neither
the camera nor the lamp post
were
hurt
suffered
the embarrassment of being a klutz

this is
not
 the lamp post
i walked into
and
no
the tanker photo didnt happen

city daily photo monthly theme day - rust and ruin

hello
 its september

 this summer
 has
 flown by

mostly
 it was a mild summer
with
 only
4 days in the 90s
 well
 september
 is
changing that

 all the humidity
that
 is
august
seems
 to
have
moved
 rolled over
into
 september

 ugh

with the first of september
 comes
city daily photo's
monthly theme day

 rust and ruins

 i am sharing a photo
 of
 an old
 no longer in business
hotel
that stands
 on west street at
 .. well i think its below 10th street ...

i fell in love
with
 its decaying facade
 when
 i saw it
 in late july

if you'd like to see
 how
other city daily photo bloggers
 interpreted
 the theme
