 in
 washington square park

it caught my eye

Best Friends Animal Society
Jamie the Puppy Seeks Puppyhood!
Meet Jamie, the glorious brindle pup who can't run and play with the other dogs at his New Jersey shelter because he has ringworm. A true sweetheart, Jamie came in with a bad case of ringworm that requires medicine and crate isolation while the condition heals. It is not much fun being a three or four-month-old joyous puppy kept inside a kennel all the time!

Liberty Humane Society in New Jersey just knows there is a foster home or adoptive home who can give Jamie a better puppyhood. Ringworm can spread like wildfire in an animal shelter. But in a home, the treatment is much easier to accomplish. It takes four to six weeks. If you have a no-pet home, or a home where Jamie could have his own space for the time he's getting medicine, please come and meet this sociable little man.

Our Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network partner would love to hear from you, pronto! Call Kim Saunders at (201) 547-4147 x 1004 or email her at kim@kimsaunders.com. Everyone at Liberty adores Jamie and wants to see him bust out of his crate into full-blown happy puppyhood.

Could you give this doll a shot at freedom? Don't hesitate to call Liberty!

Together, we can Save Them All
®.

downtown water tower

took that shot on houston looking up
two weekends ago

today
 is
 not only
 water tower wednesday

its
toonman and my 36 wedding anniversary
(he married me when i was but a small child)

that july 30th
was a very muggy
 very hot summer sunday

we wed in a rabbi's study
under a chuppah
in attendance
 my parents
my sister
 our two best friends
 the rabbi's wife
 (and their son)

 she, the rabbi's wife,
was asked to be a witness
on her way to play tennis

the rabbi
 was afraid
 because
our best friends
 lived in the same building
 had the same address
 as we did
they might not be valid witnesses

it was odd
 to have her
in her tennis whites standing there
but
 more odd
 was their little boy
who sat in a chair
swinging his legs
watching

after the ceremony
 which was very brief
 but
 not as impersonal
 as
a courthouse/city hall ceremony

we walked to my parent's home for a small reception
followed by lots of eating and drinking
but no honeymoon

hey
you know
you still owe me a honeymoon!

me too

this

is
 how i feel about monday

thanks!

anchored

woke up
 thinking
 it was sunday
 remembering
 it was saturday

 lazing around
 noticing the time

 cut it close
almost late for my hair appointment
 then
 errands
 two trips to zabars
 i forgot the yogurt
 a stop by the bank
 refilled my wallet
brought a sweater
 i found
 on
 the closet floor
to
the dry cleaners

i came home
and
 like that boat
anchored
 settled in

on my couch
 reading
 first in the highlander series
 i thought
 why not

 turns out
its entertaining

girl and her dog

toonman and i
 took
 a long walk
up to we dont know what street
 above the tennis courts
 past the soccer field
there's another promenade

it seemed to stretch on forever

 we decided
 not
 to see where it led

we walked back down along the river
 its called cherry walk

when we got almost home
 i reached for my fitbit
to
see
 how far
 we'd walked
 only to remember
it was charging on my desk
 oh well

i did see a sign
 at one point
that said
 79th street exit 1/2 mile

 any city kid knows
 20 streets/blocks make a mile
 so
 at that point
we'd be home
in
10 blocks
 i dont do math
i am not even going to guess
how far we walked

 i know
we were strolling along for over an hour
 thats really what counts

  i took some fun
 to me
 anyway
shots of dogs in the dog run

i was going to use one today
but
 decided
this was more reflective of my mood

meh

i still
 havent
 got anything
 interesting to share
  but
its fridaycation time
so
i am hoping
with this nice non humid weather
 i will get out
 have an adventure
 something
i can blog about

 maybe its a symptom
 of
the
 summer doldrums
ennui
boring times
 whatever

for now

this is best i can do

creeping vine
devours
 lower westside building!

weekend recappage

its so nice
to have 3 day weekends

 i know
 it will be hard
to
go back
to
 two day weekends

 there's
a little over a month left
to
 enjoy
 sleeping in on fridays
waking on saturday
thinking its sunday
 then
remembering
 there's a whole extra day
 to
be lazy or do something fun

 it confuses toonman as well
 this saturday
 he told me
 he didnt think
he needed to do the laundry
(his sunday chore)
i said ok
 but
 its only saturday

he admitted my extra day weekend confuses him too

this was a busy weekend

 friday was a nice day
i decided to get errands done
 then stay close to home
the first thing on my agenda
replacing the small plants in my window box
 all of which were dead

 in june
i bought some fancy begonias
apparently
 too fancy
for the heat we had

now
i have some plain old begonias
3 large plants vs 6 small ones
makes me happy
to see the pretty pink flowers

 for dinner
we ordered in from brgr
the new place on broadway between 79-80th
its a chain with two other restaurants
you can order online from their website
they deliver
you can build your own beef, turkey or veggie burger
 or
 order one they design
it took 15 minutes from order to delivery
the burgers were good
as were the fries and onion straws

 dessert?
we pigged out on levain's huge oatmeal raisin cookies
saving the talenti gelato for saturday nite

 saturday
was filled
from beginning to end
 massage facial hair beautification
then
  an instagram photo walk
 from
 west 10th at west street

across
 to washington square park

up
 to union square

 over
to madison square park
to the shake shack
for free frozen custard
 after that
there was talk about going to a rooftop bar
i decided
it was time to head home

 we watched
  killing them softly
a very talky movie
with only brad pitt
 to make it interesting
in my opinion

we are really enjoying directv

we had the talenti gelato
it was really good
 not sure
its better than the fiasco gelato
 i bought last weekend
  but
 it was good
 did you know
 july
 is
national ice cream month?
i think gelato sort of qualifies

sunday
a visit to polished
a walk with toonman
 an old movie
his girl friday

and you?

fifi

I dont know
 if
 her name
 is
 fifi

 but
 since
 she's a poodle
 i couldn't resist

 clearly
she's calling out to her people
 come on already

art in times square

 this installation
 is
 from
 cuban artist
 arlés del rio
entitled
 nearness

it appeals to tourists and natives alike

tuesday it rained

tuesday
it
poured

people
who hadn't
 heeded
 the darkening skies
 ran
through
heavy downpours

when we move
downtown
my office
 will be
so high
up
people will look like toys

no moon, lots of water towers

the night
 of
 the super moon
 we waited
 til after 10
 went up to the roof

all we could see
were
 clouds
lots of clouds

we stood around for a few minutes
i am not sure why
it wasn't as if the clouds would disappear
 they didnt

but
i noticed
5 water towers
i had never noticed before
amazing
no?

sunday in the city

sunday afternoon
met
my friend missy and a few other instagram people
for
a walk down
through
 battery park

we walked
 we talked
 we took photos
then
 it began to rain

 missy and i
opted
 to
 leave the park
 in search of
starbucks
 then
a cab home

 walked almost 4 miles
 took some fun photos
 it was
 despite
the vertigo
 a nice weekend

how was yours?

stuff

woke up
with
vertigo
saturday morning

 this is the third time
 this has happened

 last time
two weeks
 of
feeling
like you spun around too fast

 its very mild
 i can function normally

 i just can't
drop my head
(and who would want to drop their head
thats right up there with losing your head)
 or
 turn too quickly

sneaky annoyance
you forget you have it
til you move the wrong way

 it didnt stop me
 from
meeting my friend blondie for brunch
we went to a new to me place
 on
 columbus at 83
 called

 it was nice
 open airy
with wood floors and ceiling
 exposed brick walls
all lovely to look at
will
 be
aiding and abetting noise volume
 when the place is full

food was good
 it has
an
 all over the place
 we want to make everybody
 happy
 menu

 i had eggs
 nicely done
 to a perfect 'hard' scramble
 and
 a special on the menu
 of
whole gain banana bread
french toast
strawberries blueberries & just enough powdered sugar

syrup on the side
 stayed on the side

 when i have fresh berries
i dont need no stinkin' maple syrup

didnt take any photos
 at brunch
 so
 here's a photo
of some berries and grapes

charlie

charlie
is a rescue
 who was located/adopted
 through an online site
 the name of which
 i cannot remember

 anyway
 he's
adorable funny and gets a lot of love

fridaycation

the last dentist visit
yes!
from now on
every friday
 til labor day
 is
mine
 to do with
 as
 i please

not that the dentist
has been much of a fridaycation spoiler
aside
 from
not getting to sleep in really late
 it hasn't interfered
with
my enjoying the day out of the office

today
 i am tentatively meeting
 an instagram friend
 the same woman
i went to central park with
 a few fridays ago

 she works on fridays
but
we meet on her lunch hour
since she works
near my dentist

so that's the plan for today
 as
for
the rest of the weekend

 well
we shall see

wendy's bench

so
some of wendy's friends
 gathered
at
 carl schurz park
 yesterday
 to
 reminisce
 lift a glass of wine
 in
her memory
and
 of course
 sit on her bench

never having been to carl schurz park
 i had reservations
 about
 the choice
of
an east side park bench
vs
 one on the broadway malls

after all
 she was westside wendy

 i was reminded
she was born and spent 20 years on east 86 street
she here brother and sister played in carl schurz park

skeptical
 until
 i got there

its a charming park
 with
a long east river facing promenade

 her bench
is near the entrance to the promenade
its looks out on the river the sky and it is a lovely place to sit

i got to catch up with my friend kate who lives in los angeles
it was much nicer to see her in person than just via Facebook

some of us went to have a drink
 more stories were told
some jokes attempted
 emily white
 walter is right
you can't tell a joke
but it was fun to laugh at how bad you were

 i even discovered
 that
 anne whitehouse
 is
 one of my blog readers
 it turns out
 she's from birmingham
 and
on her next trip home
she's going to get in touch with you, virginia jones
 she follows your blog too!

anyway
it was a lovely way
to
remember a woman
who is the glue that holds so many friendships together

water towers

i know
 i took this
 with
 my long lens
 'cause
 i cropped it
 to
eliminate
a bus stop sign
 and
 a realtor sign

 alas
 i was too lazy
 to
clone out
the
lamp posts

this afternoon
i am headed to the eastside
uptown
to
carl schurz park

the park lies
 at the end
 of
east 86th street
 overlooking the east river

friends
 of
 my late friend wendy
who passed 18 months ago
 took up a collection
 to buy a bench
 in the park

 wendy
grew up on east 86 street

this afternoon
 a bunch of us
are
 gathering
 to
 'unveil'
 the plaque on the bench
 it reads

wendy caplin
1947-2013
'Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on'

back to reality

i spent
sunday
 beautifying
 trying
 not to think too hard
about
 monday
 being
 back to work day

that's
my
 morning view
walking
down
broadway to 72nd street

what a delight

 to
have
4 whole days off

i could get used to this

 we had some rain
 it was nice enough
 to
 only rain
 in the late afternoon/evening

it really did storm for a while

 the streets got clean
 toonman always says
the rain is good because it cleans the streets

 now
 its a lovely
 not humid
 sun filled
weekend

the sort of warm sun
 that makes me
 feel
lazy
sleepy
even tho
 i slept late
despite the cats

sweet jack
is the instigator
 he really doesn't like anyone
 to
 sleep past 7:30

 he comes
 up on the bed
insistently
walking between us
sometimes
poking with his nose
 or
 to make his point
 jumping
 on my tummy

 he knows that works best

i can beat him at his own game
by
shutting the bedroom door
 and
do
sometimes

i am so glad
 i have today
(sunday tho i am writing this on saturday)
 off
to
get my head
 back
 into work mode

 i hope
 you
had
 a lovely weekend
 a safe
 but
exciting
 fourth

the money shot

thats an old photo
one of my very favorites
 taken a few summers back
 outside riverside park

toonman and i were taking a walk
 i am not sure
but
i think
 it might have been
 fourth of july weekend 2012

 we didnt walk much
 before
 toonman's epic medical adventures

anyway
 i love that shot

what i dont love
is google

google lacks any real help
if you can't figure it out on your own
 or
you dont find someone
 who had a similar problem
in the
not so helpful
 help forums
you can forget
 ever
solving
 your problem

 whats my problem
 now
 you ask

well
i have both my blogs set up
so
 if you desire
 you can get
each new post
 emailed to you

google bought feed burner
  the software
behind
 email subscriptions

since google bought it
 well
lets just say
 like everything else
 google
its
 not
very reliable

 over the last few months
email delivery
 of
my blogs
has
 been
 less than perfect

sometimes neither gets emailed
sometimes only one goes out

 i checked all the settings
i subscribe
 so
i can see if it gets delivered or not
and
i apologize to anyone
who subscribes
for
the lousy service
 google/feed burner
is providing

aaawwwwwwwwwgggh

long weekend

the office
 is
 closed this friday
 for july fourth

 the day before
 a holiday
the office closes at 1 pm

 my bosses are all away
so
i made an executive decision
 to
take thursday
(today to you, to me its tomorrow since i am writing this on wednesday)
 off
vs
 going in
for 3-4 hours of nothing

 i am hoping
 the weather reports
 are wrong
 that
 as you read this
 it is not raining
that
there is not a tropical storm
 battering
the eastern seaboard
i am hoping
 its
 a
 bright
 sunshiny day

far from wordless

this wednesday
 is
 wordy
 oh my yes

first
 toonman
 expressed concern
 that his legion of followers
 would be mightily upset
i posted the monthly city daily photo post in place of toonsday
actually
that is not true
 it just made toonsday
 begin
 a bit later
nevertheless
 apologies
for
that

 next
 that's
 my happy dance

see me dancing?
(no that one of the exhibits at the museum)

we kicked time warner
 (mostly)
to the curb
 yes!
goodbye
 to
 their awful customer service
 their monthly increases
 for service that sucked
goodbye
 to
only being able to record two programs at once
 ha!
we now have directv for 1/3 the price
 and
we can record up to 5
yes
 5 shows
 at once
if we only record 4 at once
we can still watch a fifth

 i will say this
 even
 with close to 300 stations
 plus
 hbo, showtime, cinemax and starz
 there's rarely
5 programs to record at once
 nevertheless
 if i want to
 i can
 so there

we did keep roadrunner as our internet provider
because
 in
 total honesty
i didn't have the time or energy
to put into researching
another isp
 and
 maybe
 more importantly
i didn't have the energy
to help toonman
 adjust to a new isp
 ... truth ...

what else
lets see
i went to the museum of art & design's biennial event with my friend donna
we had dinner first at robert
 their summer menu is delightful
 the exhibitions
 at the biennial
were fun
 but
watching all the artsy people
was more fun
 no photos of them
 because
well
i was too busy trying to navigate the crowds
 really
 it was a huge turnout

  i think that maybe it

oh wait
here's a water tower

toonsday - changes ...
