🎶rain rain rain🎶

with props to aretha

 its been raining
 pretty steadily
 since
 friday afternoon

 i suppose
 i should not complain
 since
 its not snow
 and
 its the end
of
 march

 i do not consider
rain
 to be
going out like a lamb

happy as i am
 its not snow

i do remember
 oddly
very vividly
 one late april day
 many
many
 many
years ago
 as
 a girl scout
our troop
went to the united nations for a tour
 it was late april
 as i said

 we wore our uniforms
 with
 little cotton ankle socks
 penny loafers
or
those shoes
 with
 straps across the instep
instead
 of oxfords lace ups

 little light weight
sweaters
 cardigans

when we came out of the united nations
 it
 was
 snowing
 big
 wet
flakes

 we were
seriously
 under dressed
 for
 such weather

 it was
 a
long walk
 to
 the subway

 i really do remember
 how cold it was

 ever since
 i have been
 very
skeptical
 of
spring

 its a skitzo season
 weather-wise

 so
 i am doubtful
 til
 proven wrong

sunday
i wore my yellow hooded slicker
again
 went to polished
 then fairway
 then home
 for
 another
 day
 indoors

here's the scoop

what a surprise
the weather people
 were
 mistaken

 go forth
 they cried
make the most of your day
but
if you plan on being out all day
 take along your umbrella
 the rains
 the down pour
 will
 happen
 late in the day

yeah
 well
 not so much

i am still auditioning new stylists to blow dry my tresses

 this weekend
it was a salon that fit the parameters:
 needs
 to be within walking distance
not more than 4-5 blocks  from home
needs
to be within the price range
i had been paying
 needs
 to be open on sundays

 two do
is on west 82
between broadway and amsterdam
 tho
 they are not open sundays
it sounded from their website
as if i would like them
i opined
 if they were truly wonderful
 i would adjust
 to
 a saturday morning appointment
 vs
sunday afternoon

 i had a 10 am with chi
 (pronounced chee not chai)
saturday morning

i wore my yellow hooded slicker
 even tho
it wasn't going to rain til later in the day

 i like that two do
 is close by
 i liked chi
 he's a nice guy

 the salon is well kept
they have a big kuerig coffee machine

they put out cut up bagels & biscotti
offer
water or tea
 and
a color coded smock to wear

 i got green
another client got burgundy
she was getting her hair colored
i was getting a blow dry

 i guess
for all the amenities they offer
 the extra $5
i paid
 vs
what i usually pay
 is ok
 but
much as i like them
 i really prefer sunday

 i guess
he/they didn't knock my socks off enough
 to make me switch

 oh yeah
 and
 it was raining
 hard
when i left a mere 40 minutes after i got there

  last sunday
 i auditioned
the jeffrey stein chain's 86th and broadway salon

when i booked
 i asked
who will be doing my hair

 ludmilla
the booker replied

 eons ago
i knew a ludmilla
at the jean louis david salon on broadway at 74th

how small a world it is

 it was
 the same ludmilla

she recognized me
you havent changed she said except you've cut your hair

 i didn't recognize her

 back
 in 2002ish
 she was a wild child
 cropped bleached blonde hair
high high heels
 short short skirts

 now
 she's a married mother
 with
a reddish blonde french twist
 low heels
 and
slacks
 but
she's still got the same smile
and
adept use of brush and blow dryer
plus

 she works sunday
 and
 the price is the same
as i used to pay at the last succession of salons

so
 ludmilla is the winner
i will be seeing her on sunday afternoons

i knew you'd want to know

apropos
 of nothing
 here's a shot
of
the lovely old lighthouse
out
 in
sandy hook

a rant ... a dog

okay
 my rant
i will try to be as terse as i can

i will start at the beginning
 with
 a statement:
when i have ever purchased something that was back ordered
 or
when i have pre ordered something
 using
 my credit card
 i do not get charged
 until
it ships
 period

for my birthday
my sister gave me a gift card for barnes and noble
 i am a voracious reader
 i am constantly ordering e-books
 to read
 via
my nook app on my iPad
it was a wonderful gift

 i didnt know
how much i spend a month
 til now

 i spend
 about $50 on books
 not every month
 but
on average

 i also
 love
 the ability
 to
pre order books by authors i really like

sometimes
a pre order
is made
 many many months in advance
but
 thats ok
cause
its something to look forward to

 on thursday
i got my american express bill for march
i learned the hard way to look at the charges
 make sure
they are legit
so when i noticed i had 4 charges for bn.com
 i thought that was odd
because
 when you order from bn.com
they tell you
 upfront
that
 the cost
will come
first
from any credit or gift card
 before
 its
charged to the credit card you put on file

 since i couldnt imagine
 having
gone
 through
the money on the gift card
 in
one month
  i checked the balance online

 amazingly
 the card
showed
 a zero balance

 i looked that the purchases
i made since getting the card

by my calculations
i had not even spent half the amount
 so
 i called

  bn.com outsources their help desk
 this annoys me
 but
 thats
 a whole other rant

i spoke to 'mark' who apologized very nicely
 but
 was unable to explain
why my card showed a zero balance
and
why my amex was showing charges for e-books

 i asked for a supervisor

she explained
that
 when
 i pre order books
books i wont be getting for months to come
that
 bn.com
 'freezes'
 that amount
on
 the gift certificate
 so
 in essence
 they are getting paid twice
 once
with the $$ my sister paid for for gift card
and
 a second time
 when they hold back $$
 so
 i cant
overspend
all the while
 keeping my amex
 as collateral

 this truly ticked me off
so much so
 i told the supervisor
that i would be telling anyone who wanted to get me a gift certificate
not
 to get it via bn.com
 and
 that
 i would be
once the books i pre ordered arrived
no longer be shopping at bn.com

i would be taking my business to amazon
 then
 i hung up

bn.com just paid up a ton of money via a class action suit for over charging for e-books
 i myself
 will be receiving $85
which
i was going to put into my account there
now
i am going to opt
 for
 the
 send me a check option

i am over these people in a really big way

 end rant

here's charlie
he's a sweet puppy

tgif

no really
 its been a busy week

 weather wise
we sort of lucked out
 no snow
 but
 its been bitterly cold
 with
 nasty winds

the sort
that
 makes your head ache
 well
it made mine ache

i have
a long rant
 about
 barnes & noble
 brewing

 but
 til
i get it all sorted out

enjoy
some
 jack

how do you sleep?

how do you sleep?

  i sleep
on the right side of the bed
toss turn from one side to the other
 sometimes wake on my back
 tho thats unusual

i used to sleep on my stomach
 but
 my then chiro
 told me that wasnt healthy

i trained myself to sleep on my side
 hence
 the toss turn

i wake at the absurd hour of 5:30ish am
 so
 by
 9:30ish pm
 i am ready
to
 crawl under the cover
cuddle up with my pillow
 and
 sleep

it takes me 12 minutes to fall asleep

 how do i know

i tried out the fitbit sleep setting

 fascinating
findings
 well
at least to me

little band that holds the fitbit
goes on your wrist
 depress a button
 to
start sleep mode
 after
 you're in bed

in the morning
depress the button
 to end it

i learned
i woke 13 times during the 7 hours i slept

the longest time
 was
from
12:38 to 12:46
i suspect thats when i went to the loo

 the fitbit doesnt tell you
 why
 just
how long
 how often

 i also woke around 4:30
thats no surprise
i wake almost every morning between 4-4:30
 look at the clock
go back to sleep for another hour or so

while i slept i burned 15.5 calories
tossed/turned the equivalent of 94 steps

 how do you sleep
 do you wake multiple times
 do you toss turn
 or
are you able to sleep straight through til morning
waking fully rested
come on spill

yes! its wednesday

someone
 was
 going to a party
 having a party
 bringing balloons
 decorations
 that
 fine
 sunshine filled
morning
 a week or two ago

 as i write this
 i am listening
 to
 the weather report

when
 you read this
 its
 likely
 we're having
 yet
 another
 snow storm

my first instameet

my friend missy and i
went
 down the shore
to meet up with other instagram fanatics
for my
first
instameet

we got there
 fashionably late
 actually
it was a lot past fashionable
 but
 no one minded

we wandered the sandy hook park on our own
 taking pix
i will share the photos i took over at through my eyes
 before
 we headed to the lighthouse
where we found the IG instameet group
 then
we wandered down to the beach

it was fun to put faces and real names to people
who
 up til now
 were
 just screen names
posting some really fine photos

 it was interesting
 to find out
 how right or wrong
my perceptions of them were

 in one instance
 a woman
 i was
sure
was in her 20s
turned out to
be
 'practically'
my age

 in another instance
someone i thought was older ended up being a lot younger
 everyone
was
as nice as i expected them to be

missy owns a dog walking business
 she brought along a 'client'
whose people
often leave him with her for the weekend

 charlie brown
 is
one of the sweetest little dogs
 i have ever met
i am not always a fan of small dogs

why

 because
 very often
 they are
 high strung
 yappy
spoiled

 charlie
 is
 none
 of
 those

 he loves people
 when
 missy would disappear
 because
 she was being adventurous
 climbing down
 to
 get closer to the waves
 he would be very concerned

when we went to find restrooms
i left him with her in the car
i got back
to see him
 looking out the window
 anxiously
i was touched he missed me

we debated
 waiting for sunset
after
an internal dialog
 missy decided
 we'd head home
 we got to the city
 in time
 to see
 the sky and the river
 become
 the same amazing color

here
 see
for
yourself

teaser

i spent saturday
 with
 missynewjersey
 as
she's referred to in my apartment

we drove down the shore
as
they say in this part of the northeast

we took photos down along the beach
 saying
how amazing
 it was
 that
 we were there
at the beach
in march
at the beach

 got some really good photos
 which
 i will share
 along with
 witty prose
 accompanying

 for now
 i am merely
 giving
 you
 a tease

 by sharing
 this shot
of

spot

we were out walking
 weekend before last
 i think

 there were still
 small patches of snow
on the ground

 i spotted
 this puppy
had
 to
stop and get a quick photo

 in fact
 i took only this one
lucky
 for me
 it wasn't blurred

nothing interesting happened

yesterday
 morning
i am
 sure
 the
 sun rose
but
 the
skies
 were overcast
 there
 was
even
fog

i didn't take any photos on the way to the subway

it was
that
 uninteresting
 a walk

 i saved this shot
 from
the pink sunrise series

 even this guy
on the fork lift loader doobie
 was
interesting
 in the
pink light

okay
 maybe
 just to me

everythings rosy

i left the apartment at 6:50 AM
 as always

 walked toward broadway

 as
i looked over at the eastern skies
 i stopped in my tracks
 pulled out the phone
 began taking photos
 hoping
 what
my eye could see
 color-wise
 would read

i stopped a few more times
as
i walked down to 72 street

every cross street
yielded
 another
incredible view

a rosy pink hue

 see for yourself

the light
 was
 bathing
the glass facade
with a
rosy glow

i had
 to
 zoom in
 to
 capture
the
 pink

thank you in advance

For more information about any of these wonderful dogs, email samantha or call her
at 914-646-5515.
HollyHOLLY: Cairn Terrier mix, 2 years old, 18 pounds. Holly is like a classic Toto, just a little bigger! She has a stunning black coat flecked with red fur, and she has the most adorable tufts of fur at the tips of her ears. She's great with most dogs and all people she meets, and she loves to pay and go for long walks. Need a foster home starting Thursday, March 20.

Lily and WilliamLILY AND WILLIAM: Chi mix, 2 years, 12 pounds & Dachshund mix, 3 years, 19 pounds. Lily and William are the most endearing little BFFs you could imagine. They've spent their whole young lives together; they arrived as a pair; and they snuggle, sleep, and trot around like they're two halves of one dog. They're about three years old and both have gorgeous silver coats. Lily needs some help with walking on the street because she's nervous on the sidewalk. William is bolder -- he's a great little stroller! Both are amazingly affectionate as soon as they become familiar with you. Bend down and they will frantically scamper into your lap and lick your face like it's their job. They adore curling up next to you or in your lap while you work on the computer or watch TV, and they're great with cats. Paper/wee pad trained! Need a foster home starting ASAP!!!!

Pepper and SaltPEPPER & SALT: Chihuahua mixes, 3 years old, 15 pounds each. These two are as easy (and as in love with each other) as you could imagine. They are super quiet, 100 percent housebroken, and just like to lie around. They've little cuddles and are happy to chill all day and go for gentle walks. Need new foster homes starting Thursday, March 20.
MachoMACHO: Chihuahua mix, 8 years old, 22 pounds. This chubby boy is a charmer! He's amazingly sweet and affectionate and fully housebroken. His foster mom is going out of town for a few days and he needs a place to crash! Needs a foster home Sunday March 23 to Wednesday March 26.
ArielARIEL: Chihuahua mix, 1 year, 14 pounds.  She's a little shy at first but warms up very quickly and is super loving. She adores putting her little paws on your knee to ask for affection, and she'll climb in your lap for cuddles if you give her the chance. She has this worried look on her beautiful little face that we just can't hep but want to kiss! She's got an irresistibly cute almost-underbite and a gorgeous orangey yellow coat of fur with the CUTEST curly little tail. What is this little angel? Look at those coppery eyes -- mesmerizing. Ariel is fine with most other dogs and cats, she's housebroken, and she' would do best in a home with a single woman willing to do a little behavioral training -- she becomes very attached to the person she loves but is fearful of men and needs a little help getting along with strangers. She ended up on death row because of her fear -- let's help this girl become more brave! Needs foster home starting ASAP.
LeoLEO: Chihuahua mix, 4 years old, 15 pounds. Amazingly sweet with the ones he loves but fearful of strangers. Would do best as the only pet in a home with a single woman -- he's a real ladies man!!! His foster mom adores him but is going out of town soon. Needs a two-week foster home starting March 27.
BeastBEAST: Chihuahua, 8 years, 12 pounds. This shy boy has been through some tough times and is eager to give and receive love! He's the kind of dog that wants badly to find that one special person and cuddle up to him or her forever. This meaty little Chi is in need of some serious TLC. He's slow to warm up but a real lover once he learns to trust you! Housebroken!! Needs a foster home ASAP.
