excuse me

but
 is
 that a ballet slipper
above
 your head

it is

its one of the photos
 from
 jr's nyc ballet series

i was
 as you may recall
 over at lincoln center
taking photos
 of the exterior paste ups
since the interior is not open to the public til february
 anyway
at the entrance to the subway
 those two people
 were
 standing
 talking
 maybe
 waiting on someone else
who knows
 i took a photo
 which
for some reason never appeared in my camera
i didn't know that at the time
 nevertheless
 i took the second shot
when they turned
 to see
 what
 why
 i was taking
 'their'
photo

all fall down

tuesday
was
 a very cold
 but
 dry day
 no snow
 no ice
 clear streets

 i walked to the subway
 started down the stairs
 hand on the rail
 midway down
my foot
 hit something
caught on something
i felt myself begin to fall
 i grabbed
 the handrail
tighter
my knees
 buckled
 my left foot
 twisted
 my arm
 wrenched
 my body
 went
 down
 two
three
 steps
 before
 stopping
landing on my knees
sort of

 my whole being
was tingling
i felt so strange
my feet
 felt
like
 they were vibrating
the shin of my right leg
 was
 throbbing
 my left ankle
 hurt
so badly
i can't describe it

 i got to my feet
 slowly
trying
 to
compose
 myself
 so stupid
instead of sitting down
 regrouping
 i walked
slowly
 not steadily
 through the turnstile
 down the platform

 little by little
 my feet
seemed
to come back to themselves
 the vibrating eased

 the train pulled in
 i got on
 and
i sat down

i debated
 whether to stay sitting
 on the local
 or
change to the express

i didn't want to give in
 so
 i got off at 72nd
 waited for the express

taking note of the scuff marks on the boots
 my leggings seemed unmarked
no tears
 but
 my shin
was throbbing
 the big toe
 on
my right foot
 felt weird
when i got to the office
 i went to the bathroom
  pulled up my pants leg
 oh boy
what a mess

my right shin was scrapped raw
 bleeding
 a gash
about 2-3 inches long
 i sprayed it with bactine
 wiped it off
opened
 the first aid kit
to find the towelettes were dried up
 but
 the antibiotic ointment
 was still viable
 so were the bandaids

 after i patched myself up
 i went to my desk
 went online
bought a new first aid kit

 wednesday morning
 every
 bone
 in
 my body
 ached
by the end of the day
 my left ankle
 was
 purple
 swollen
 aching badly
 my back
 decided
 to start spasming

i am seeing my masseuse on saturday
 treating myself to a massage
because
 boy
do i ever need one

so how's your week been so far?

these are not the stairs fell down
and
ts not signed

what day is it? its

wednesday
midweek
hump day
almost the end of january

water tanks
 water towers

just a photo today
from
downtown

freedom tower
aka
#1 world trade center
to the left
two water towers to the right

Read an interesting article on water tanks
if you care to, you can read it here

it seems all i do is whine

i only went out on sunday
 because
 i had to deal
 with my hair

oh
i did get my nails done too
hey i was out

  my hair

 i am
very vain
 about
my hair

 its
maybe
my best feature

it
looks
like
 shit
 okay
 maybe
 more
like
overcooked spaghetti

 why

 a
 lack
of
 communication

 i am
willing
 to
accept 80%
of
the blame
 for
 not asking questions

the stylist
should
 have asked
too

 i have
over the last year
had keratin applied
to
 the border
to
the rim
to
the frame
 to
 the whatever
 around
my face
and
the bottom layer of my hair

to
relax
to
 smooth
 it
 because
 silver hair
 has this odd texture
 plus
my hair
is very
coarse
very
 thick

 the keratin
has
 never
before
 made it
 flat
straight
 lifeless

i tried to save a fews dollars
the stylist who blow-dries my hair is quite good
were
i not
totally happy
with
tim
who
 cuts my hair
perfectly
 i would switch

 i digress

 tim's salon
charges lot more for keratin
than
 the weekend place
 i go for blow dries
 so
 i decided
i would let them do it

well
 apparently
the weekend place
uses
 two different types of keratin
 they didn't ask
i didn't ask

 i ended up
with
the
straightener vs the relaxer

now
 all the money i saved
 is moot

 it takes months
 for it to wash out

i dont want it
all
 to wash out

i want
the front and sides
 to
 be
less
flat
lifeless

i see tim in 2 weeks for a hair cut
i hope the stick straight front/sides
won't affect
the way he cuts/styles
 because
 i love this shaggy cut

 gah

poor you
dear reader
if its not whining about twisted necklaces
 its whining about hair

wait
here's a nice photo to make up for all the whining

uh oh

you know
 how kids
 get into trouble
 when they are housebound?

  well
 with the super cold weather
threat of more snow
 i opted
 to spend saturday
 in the house
uh oh
 indeed

 i know
this is not something
 one should brag about
 i am a terrible housekeeper
 terrible
 may be
an understatement

 i dont clean

 oh sure
 i clean up the bathroom
 in a hit/miss fashion
i wipe off the kitchen counter top
when the cats spill their water
i wipe it up
if a friend is coming over
i have been known
 to
 vacuum
 swifter
 and/or
 even
wash the kitchen floor

toonman
 usually vacuums
 when
 the dust bunnies
a combination
 of
 actual dust
 cat hair
 and
 my hair
 threaten
 to take over
but
 i really
 try my best
 to ignore dust

well
 i was in the bedroom
standing in front of my dresser

now i can no longer remember what i
oh wait
 i do
 i was getting dressed
i had opened the dresser drawer
 and
 for some reason
 i noticed
that one of the many little boxes
i have accumulated
collected
 is too loose a term
looked well dusty
 gah
 i know better
 than
 to look
 too closely

i picked it up to wipe it off
one thing led to another soon
i was actually taking things off
 rather than wiping around them
 i lifted one small box
 that
 holds some delicate necklaces
i keep meaning to buy one of those key holder boards

 you know
 with the hooks
i got one for larger necklaces
 but
the little fine ones need a safer place

 anyway
i lifted the box
off
the dresser
 put it down somewhere safe

 4 necklaces
 fell out
 immediately
 as if
 out of fear
they grabbed onto one another
 tangling
twisting

 i just left them there
maybe
 that was a mistake
maybe
 while i finished dusting
 they tangled themselves even more

 i knew
 i could never untangle them
 without ripping them apart
 out of frustration

  oh yeah
 i have no patience
i can't do untangle

 i brought them to toonman
he said something i wont share
 i tried to explain
 i didn't
do
it
 on purpose

in no time
he got two of them apart

the other two

took
a
a lot longer
a lot longer

i think i have used up all my untangling help for a long time
i think i am going to go online and buy that hook thing
right now

sophie

i know
 sophie's mom
 via instagram
where
she posted this wonderful photo
the other day

sophie
 is a rescue dog

 you know
 i love dogs
(and cats and most all animals)
 but
 rescue dogs
 are special

 look at that intelligent face

 what a sweetie

that photo was taken by her mom
 who shares her photography
 on instagram
 as
 @robinjones165

i asked robin to tell me about sophie and how they came to be together
here's her reply

Well, here's our story.
I have always been a boxer person. But after my knee replacement in 2011 I didn't want to chance walking a big dog. My husband and I had 2 boxers, but list one that same year. We still have Frankie. He's 91lbs!
During my recovery, Frankie and I started looking at rescue sites because I knew there are a lot of small dogs that need homes.
Sophie's mom was pregnant when she came into rescue. She had 3 puppies. Sophie was the only girl. She came home with me in April, 2012. She was 7 weeks old.
To say she owns my heart is understated.
If you want, take a look at the first picture I posted on IG. She was 2lbs.

 if you are an instagrammer
check her wonderful pictures out!

food carts

they are everywhere
there
 are
 specialty trucks
 that sell
 cheese sandwiches
 honest
 waffles
 desserts
 asian foods
i won't go list all of them now
 because
 i was in bed
 when i realized
i had no post set to publish
 anyway
there are all those specialty trucks
oh yeah
there also carts
selling
 pretzels
 caramelized peanuts
 and
hot dog vendors
 and
then
 there's
 the coffee carts
like this one
parked on 64 street off broadway near the movie theater

people on the platform

did i tell you this?
  wednesday morning
 after
 snowmageddon
 dumped
 11 inches on nyc
 i went to work

 after my last experience
 at
the 79th street subway station
 i was leery
 but
far better equipped
 with
 la canadienne's 'chance'

the sidewalks
were
 mostly
 shoveled
 the streets
 were plowed
 but
there was still a lot of snow to walk through

i made it to 79th street
 in time
 to see
 people exiting
 which means
 i just missed the train

 i walked down
 the
in far better condition than last time
 stairs
 to see the next train
was
due
 in
 17 minutes

17 minutes
 on
 a
cold
 unheated
 subway platform
 in
 9 degree temps

 no
 i dont think so

 i turned
up
 the stairs
i went
 down
 broadway
 i walked
 to
 72nd street
where
i could get an express or a local

not signed

the platform
 was
 crowded

the sign
 said
an express
 was
 due
 in
3 minutes

 yes!

  its so funny
 to me
that
 everyone
 waiting
 stands
facing the direction the train will arrive from
 as if
they can will it to arrive sooner
 of course
there are many who just stay focused on their mobiles

 amazingly
 the train that arrived
 was not at all crowded
everyone waiting
 was able to board
 without
 a shoehorn push

 the streets down
 at the office
were fairly clear/clean
 the sun came out
i doubt it warmed the air much
 but
i spent the day comfortably at my desk
working

left early for the trip home
which was uneventful
as it should be

i hope
 if your area
 was hit by the snowpocalyse
you are
safe and warm

so he said ...

monday
 i decided
 it wasn't too cold out
 by
 too cold
 i mean
 it was walkable
with the big camera
 tho on the way home
 i was sorry
 i had no hat
my ears hurt
inside
 they ache
 when they get too cold

my plan
 was
to walk down to lincoln center
 to see
jr's new york city ballet theatre photos

 the actual exhibit
 opens in february

 right now
 there are a few
 pasted
on
 the windows

the
  entrance
 to
 the theatre

  so
i am walking up the ramp
at the northwest side of the plaza
 when
 this security guard says
 to me
 in
a thick jamacian accent
you have to walk around they are shooting the pictures

i looked at him
quizzically

what
i said

he repeated
they are shooting the pictures walk around
he gestured
 to the fountain

i thought
i am shooting the pictures too
 and
 headed off toward the fountain
the plaza was empty

 i could see
 off
to the southwest corner of the plaza
what appeared to be a tent
on the street

there were
 cops
 people
 cars
 camera equipment

i am thinking
they're shooting something for jr's exhibit

i shoot the photos pasted on the windows
get a fun shot
 of
a young ballerina
posing for her friend

i head toward the camera crew

 imagine
 my surprise
 to see
 tom selleck and bebe neuwirth

standing in front of the steps talking

 oh
 i think
 they're shooting the pictures
 means
they're filming a scene for blue bloods

 ahhhh

so
i shot one myself

i am not sure
if i will be in the final cut
 or
if they'd wrapped before i stepped into the shot
.. no one yelled at me ..

oh yeah
 i got a few
water tower shots
as well

this is the only photo signed

long weekend

a long weekend
 is
always
 lovely

 the weather
wasn't awful
 no polar vortex
 some rain
 some snow
some wind
 some cold
 some sun

it is
after all
 winter
...

 left the office friday
 around 3
always nice
 it also
always
confuses me
it makes me feel
 as if
 saturday is sunday

 absurd
 but
 thats how my brain works
...

  we watched despicable me 2
 i was
 tired
 falling asleep
so
we finished watching
 it
 on saturday
 after
 my massage
 after
 the errands

 the animation
 is exquisite
 the story
 was slow to start
 but fun
 i dont think
you need to see
 despicable me 1
 in order to enjoy it

 we love animation
if you love animation
you'll enjoy it
...

sunday
 i did beautification
 another week
of red nails
essie's bordeaux

 i also got
the 'frame'
 (my hair stylist's term)
of my hair
 keratin'd
 that means
 its
 extremely straight
 for a few days
 the rest of my hair
 is
full
bouncy
 and
it looks weird
 the bouncy
 will
 calm down
 drop dead
 (my term)
and
the straight
 will blend in more

 in a few weeks
 i will get it
 cut
 shaped
 layered
 reshaggyed
 (also my term)

...

i am starting a juice cleanse
 i have
 not
 stopped
over eating
 since
thanksgiving

i have
 tried
 unsuccessfully
 to curb
 my impulses
 stifle my appetite

a friend did a juice cleanse
 she lost 5 lbs
it inspired me
thats how much i want to lose

 juices
 3 'meals'
 2 'snacks'
are
fruits and/or veggies
with
 other good healthy things
blended in
you drink lots of water
 tea
if you need a little extra
 you have some broth

i will let you know how it works out
...

harry was scheduled for dental work
he's fine
 his teeth need some work
 as does
 his breath
which will improve
when his teeth are cared for
anyway
his appointment
 got rescheduled
 due to our vet
(he called me to explain he announced himself ''its your vet' )
being short-staffed
i suggested
those not able to come to work
 were
suffering long weekend-itis
i love our vet
i love
 that he called to explain
 and
to advise
that harry's pre surgical blood work
was
perfect
...

football
was on toonman's agenda

if it was on your agenda
i hope your team won

one of H&M's windows in times square

peanut shell puppy

i thought
 it was
 called
 baby bjorn

 but
its not

i googled

 there are several
 baby carrier slings
 one is called
 peanut shell
 another
 balboa
yet
 another
 moby wrap

 intended for babies
 this woman
 took it a step
further
 she's carrying
 her pup
 in
 a sling

 she told me
 she's been practicing at home
 it will enable them
 to get to the park
 faster
 she said
 because
her pup
tends
 to
dawdle

 hard to believe
 with
 all that
 i didn't
get
 either
 her name or the dog's

people on platforms

i used
 to take
 a photo
on the subway
every morning
 in
 the subway car

 it was
for me
an interesting study

then i got bored

 it happens

 recently
 i began
 taking photos
 on
 the subway platform

 interestingly
 there is an instagram group
 called
 people of the platforms

who knew!

that's
what
 new yorkers
 do

 they stand
mesmerized
 by their mobile devices

 hey
 its a way
 to pass
the minutes
 til
 the next train
 arrives

blowing my own horn

you might know
 i am addicted
to
 photography
 especially
iphoneography

 i am also
 addicted
 to
 instagram

my photos
 both iPhone and Big camera
 have
 been
 'honored'
by various groups
 as part
 of
 theme grids
 several times
 one of my edits
was
 even part
 of the opening sequence
 at
 Rhonna
(rhdesign app)
 and
 a group called
 eye_catching_photos
featured
 one
under the canopy
 shot

all these things
 make me
 want to try harder
 be better

 last night
i came up from the subway
 it was still light out
so i snapped a photo to post on instagram

 i opened the app
 there was this red dot
on
my profile page

i was selected
'midday splash featured artist'

 i stopped walking

 i stood
 on
 broadway
grinning like a fool

 its a photo
 i took this past saturday
 in the dreary fog

 it wasn't a great photo

i played with it

 i turned it all grey

 highlighting
the red barge in the background
 color splash
there's a photo group for it

 there's an app for it

 this is the photo

 i am tickled
 to be
 acknowledged
by
 my peers

especially
 since
that
 was
my very first try at color splash
an auspicious beginning

so thanks for letting me crow a bit

more things i love

i love
my sister
 she sends me emails
after she reads my blog
recently
 she suggested boots
 from
i might like
 because
she read of my ice escapades

i love
 certain colors
 middle of the road colors
 like red nouveau nail polish
 tomato vs red or orange

  very shallow
 but
i am not deep

i love
 those little shrub like trees
 alberta spruce
 (i googled window box shrub/tree)
 i see in store displays
i want some for my window box
i
almost
almost
went into a florist shop on the eastside
last week to ask how much they were

 almost

i love
watching award shows
 another indication of my shallowness
i love the red carpet parade
i dont care who designed your ensemble
 i just love watching

i loved
 my husband's remark
 'everyone has a team'
almost as much as tina fey's joking
 gravity
was about
george clooney
 preferring  death
 to
spending another minute
with a woman his own age

i love
 good writing
i dont watch sitcoms
but
i do
 i admit it
i watch
soap operas

 i transferred my addiction
 from
 all my children
 to
general hospital

 its not good writing
 soaps are never good writing
but
 they entertain
they are escapism
watching
 for me

i love
our new freezer to microwave container
 its pba free,
its glass
its got this cute little button
 to vent the steam
 and
 its inexpensive

frigoverra

i love
 noticing things
 that maybe
have been there forever

like the other morning
as i walked up the street
 i looked up

 there
on the top floor
 in the windows
 were
 lots of little lights
 at first
 i thought
candles
 no
 no one
would leave
 candles burning
 in the window

 oh
they're little lights
 in
window boxes
j'adore
 i even took photos
 silly
 because
my iphone has no real zoom
the one it does have makes things 'noisy'

looking up
i love looking up
 there's
 always
 a
water tower
 or
 two

toonsday - one is enough

this is a rerun but very apropos ... in fact now we only need one remote the wife asked the tech to program the new remote for us .. of course i'll still probably hit the wrong button ....

this and that

after a week
 of
frigid temps
 we had
 a rainy humid day
followed
by a day of moderation temp-wise
however
 the wind was insane
 hell
 the weathers been insane

 i walked out sunday morning
headed for
beautification™
across
 the street i saw
 this

the reddish brick building
on the right
 has been undergoing
 an extensive
 interior renovation
 its been about a year
 maybe more
 since it began

 the other day
 i noticed
that the roof was covered in a blue tarp
 i am guessing
 there's work going on

 well the wind didn't care
it was so strong
 it pulled that tarp off
 left it flapping
waving
 like a flag
looked sort of like a discarded condom

i hope for their sake
it didn't let the rain in
to the damage the work thats been done
 toonman
has no sympathy for them
they have too much money
...

between
 my mani/pedi
 at polished
 and
 my hair appointment
 at blondi's

i trekked down to gracious home
to find something
 to nuke
 food in

dont ask
really
 dont

this claims
to go from freezer to microwave
you just pop that little button up
before nuking to allow the stream to escape

we'll see

thank you very mulch

i heard
saw
photos
 on
 instragram
 of
 the hudson river
 iced over
it looked amazing
i wanted to go get some photos

saturday morning
 was
dreary
 overcast
 drizzling
humid
 but
 i decided
 i braved rain in paris
i can brave rain in nyc
i donned my yellow hooded slicker
got out the plastic 'condom'
for my camera
 switched over
 to the 18-105mm lens
headed out

i was going to use the scene setting
 being lazy
 but
 i was having focus issues
so
i switched back to p mode

 the wet
made all the colors
deeper
more intense
saturated

it was a nice day for taking photos

i got a lot of interesting shots
 i will share
 at another time
 likely
over at through my eyes

saturday
 was
 mulch day in the city
 throw out
your
old
 needle dropping
 christmas trees
 there
 was
a
 mulchathon
 going on

none of these are signed i am just too lazy they are all straight out of the d7000
