saturday and sunday

it was a nice weekend
the weather continues to be perfect
 cool mornings
 sun warmed afternoons
sleep under the comforter at night
bliss

 after
i did
 those necessary
 but
 dull errands
saturday
 we took a walk
 in the park
did the short loop

 toonman says
 he feels
 like a guide dog
 waiting
 every time
i stop to take a photo

 took my BIG camera
only took
 the 35mm lens
 it does just fine
  my neck
says
 thank you

that squirrel
 clearly
 understood
that it was not a zoom
as i walked a bit closer
he waited
 he knew
i was going to put him on my blog
 cause
 i told him so

i also met several fabulous dogs
whose photos will be shared
 over the coming saturdays

 i told toonman
i am going to get a dog if i retire
 he didnt even respond
 maybe
 he didnt hear me

its interesting walking
 with him
he has earbuds in his ears
so he can listen to music
 i think
 he sort of
hears me

 i wish
 i could remember
what it was i said
that
he misheard
 of course
 i cant remember that
 either

 likely
 just as well
i am sure
 it was
a you needed to be there
 funny

i did spot the dog topiary
(thanks to susan for alerting me)
 in the community gardens
 if
it hadnt had twigs for its whiskers
i would never have spotted it

what do you think?

sunday
 i beautified
i would have liked to take another walk
but
 toonman
 was
busy
crying
over the giants

seriously?

there's
 a shop
 a store
 a boutique
 part of a chain
here on the uws
on btoadway
 that
is
 closing
shutting the doors
going out of business
 they're
 down
 to
 the bare bones
merchandise wise
 but
 honestly
 it looks
 more
 like
100% off
 to
 me

treats for two

spotted
 these
 two
 patiently waiting
 for
 treats

that woman
 was
 sharing her muffin
with
 those
two
 well behaved
king charles spaniels
 on
 madison avenue
between
77th and 78th streets

under the canopy #186

I have been doing a series of photos
 i call
 under the canopy

 every week day morning
 at
 approximately
 7:10 a.m.

 some mornings
 a minute or two earlier
some mornings
a minute of two later

 i
 stand
as close to the same spot
 as possible

 for a long time
 i stood
 in
 exactly
 the same spot

i knew
 this
by a mark
on the
sidewalk
pavement

but
 for the last few months
 there's been construction
 encroaching
 on
 the sidewalk
on
the pavement

i  had to move a bit
to
accommodate the narrower space

anyway
i have been recording
 the comings
 and
 goings
 of
people
on this part of 42nd street
for
186 days

 i took this one
 thursday morning
 7:08 a.m.

 they are taken quickly
to cover those less than fully focused
 i doctor them
 with
 topaz labs simplify buz sim
 i like the painterly feeling

 maybe
 someday
i will pop over to blurb
 and
 make a book

 maybe

 maybe not

edited to add: i post these shots every morning on instagram, i created a hashtag for them there: #underthecanopy

who am i kidding

i was
 truly
 without words
last night
 i was yawning
 even
 before dinner
 which is pretty early
 due to
my rising
before the butt crack of dawn
 eating lunch before noon
i am going to fit right in
 if i ever retire
to
 one
of those over 65 developments

 early bird dinners
 sunset specials
 i would laugh
but
its not funny

 my husband
11.5 yrs older
 is
 younger
 than me
 in every way

  speaking of older
remember
 how i whined
 about the comptroller's office
 möbius strip
 of
 form filling?

  well
 i called the 800#
on the letter
only
to
 discover
 there
 was
no
 option
 to speak
 to
 a human being

 i decided
 to give in
 fill out the forms
 again

 have them notarized
 again

 i got it all together
for my sister to notarize
and
 set it aside

  saturday
toonman brings in the mail
 announces:
 'you've got jury duty'

i am
 not
happy
 about this
 but
 i take the letter
from him
i am going to postpone it
 i mutter
 then
i look at the return address
 its
 not
 from the county clerk
 its
 from
the comptroller's office

 it looks
 suspiciously
 like a check

 getting it open
 was fun
 it was
 sealed
folded
 like
origami

inside
 was indeed
 a check
for those stocks
i
never
had
physical possession of

 hopefully
 this upcoming election
will bring in a new comptroller
 i hope
he
 notices
fixes
 all
the
redundancies

 who am i kidding

the other half

was
 spent
sleeping in
i did get up at around 7
 to feed the cats
 to shut them up
they sit outside the closed bedroom door
crying

 after i fed them
 with my eyes closed
i went back to bed til almost 9

 i love sleeping
 especially
when i am snuggled under a comforter

 eventually
i got my act together
 and
 took it on the road
 to
 beautification™

this week
 my nails are
  tuxedo
an essie color
 thats a
plummy-black

a perfect
beginning of fall color

after my morning at polished beauty bar
 i walked
 across to columbus avenue

there was a huge street festival underway

i didnt stop to shop
i was on my way to dramatics
 for my wash/blow dry
 i am wondering
 if
i will be trekking
 all this way
 when
the weather gets nasty

i sure miss going to sam and chris
since tina is gone
there's no one there on sunday
 but
 sam
 who i really dont like

 anyway

i stopped at citarella
for some of their own brand salad dressing walnut vinaigrette
 its light and tasty
 also picked up a salad
 and
granola peanut butter banana chocolate cookies
 i suspect
 if they are good
 they will be deslish
 on the other hand
 they might be gross
  i will let you know

toonman and i took a short walk
he needed to escape the giants who were losing
(and continued to do so, he is very unhappy)
we took a short walk
 up through the park
 to the community gardens
 and
back

it was chilly
when the sun hid behind the clouds
the breeze that had been lovely
 earlier in the day
 was
a lot stronger and less pleasant
 nevertheless
we walked
always a good thing

i got a few shots of people
enjoying
 the end of the weekend

half the weekend

is gone
 but
i made the most of it

it was exhale spa massage day
 possibly
my favorite day of the month
after which i bussed it back to the westside
 via
 the detour
caused by the steuben day parade

did errands
had friends come by
we hung out
 talking
catching up
my friend j's significant other
 who i call boychick
hadn't gotten to see/spend time with toonman
 in almost a year
 they share a birthday
 among other things

 the afternoon flew by
 i was glad
i bought two bottles of wine
 its great
 to spend time
with people
 you truly like
 isnt it

 anyway
 thats
 how i spent saturday

how did you spend your saturday?

clover

clover
is a sweet little love of a pup
 she and her person
 were
 in
polished beauty bar
 last weekend

 i got
 lots
 of
 kisses
 and
 snuggles
 but
she couldn't
 sit
still
 every time
she was told
 to
 sit
still
she'd start to
then
 she'd
 try to kiss me

 i gave up
i got some photos
none focused properly
but
 i did get
 a
clean face

this and that

no
 i am not
 going to whine
 about
 missing my fridaycation

it was a busy week
 the weather
was
 so lovely
 so lacking
 in moisture
 no rain
 no humidity
blissfully
 chilly
sleep with the windows open under a comforter
 divine

i am
 over
my ios7 trepidation
really
 that article
i linked to
was better than a xanax

 i had my teeth cleaned
 seriously
i brush my teeth twice a day
for
3 minutes

 as soon as
 i finish eating
 anything
i am jabbing away with
 gum brand go-betweens
 little brushes
 that fit between teeth
 pushing out
 nasty food particles
 that
could
 cause me
 to
 need more expensive dental work
 and
 yet
the hygienist
  dug
 for almost an hour
 scraping
picking
 irrigating
 damn
 it was
exhausting
 sitting
with
 my mouth open
 without
 a sound coming out
we all know
 i can talk non stop
for a lot longer than that

 i think
we're going to watch that brad pitt zombie movie tonite
last week
we watched the star trek movie
 in between
 we've watched
 the end of this season's
  newsroom
 brilliant
 loved it
jane fonda was truly exceptional
 hopefully
she's thanked aaron sorkin a zillion times for two brilliant scenes
watching the wrap up
of
  breaking bad
awesome writing
incredible acting
we also
 got to enjoy
 kevin spacey
the owner of the best hair piece in the acting world
 in
 house of cards

 oh yeah
 months ago
 i sent in forms
to reclaim stock money from stock certificates
 i never had

 my sister researched
 how to reclaim it
got me the forms
 certified them
shortly after
 i sent them in
i got a letter acknowledging said forms
 advising
it would a short wait til they were processed
that was at the beginning of august

yesterday
  i got a letter
 with
the
 identical forms enclosed
 advising
if i wanted to reclaim these funds
i would need to complete the enclosed forms
 which
 are
identical
to
the
 ones
 i
already
submitted
 gah fucking gah
 i am
not submitting anything
i am
calling
 the 800 #
 speaking
to someone
cause
seriously
 i am not
 climbing
 on
 this
 bureaucratic
 mobius strip

never thought i'd hate change

well
 i upgraded
my iphone 5
 to the new operating system
ios7
 and
its going to take some getting used to

its not
 that
 the little icons
 are different
or
 that
when you 'open' it
they seem
to
 soar
 at you
 no
 thats not it
 its
 very
 bright
too bright

 the
comes with apps
 (vs
apps
you
 buy
add)
  all
 have white background
 or
 black
 if you reverse things
 i tried that
 i like that
 even
less

what bugs me most
is/are
the changes they made to
notes
 it used
 to look
 like
a yellow lined pad
 i loved that
 now
 its white
no lines
no font options

and

 you used
 to be able
 to quit apps
 by
 depressing
 the on/off home button
 to make
 the open apps appear
 then
 you'd tap them
 and
 they'd shut/quit
 that
 doesnt work any longer
i havent been able to intuit
 how its done

 i will google it
 but
i wish they'd just left some of the things the way they were
i have never objected to changes before
but
 this version
 is
 really
 not
warm and fuzzy

so
since i wrote this at 6:30ish
its now 8:15ish
 i googled
 found a great site
 that helped me
 feel
 less weirded out

 if you need help
getting over the changes in ios7
 click
here

 now
i am going to get a glass of wine
 i deserve it

this and that

having a normal 2 day weekend
 is
 exhausting
 i have to cram
so much
 into it
 look at that nice bench
we had no time
to sit on it
during our hour long walk
 in
 riverside park
on
 saturday
 before the walk
 i had to do errands
 after
the walk
 all i wanted to do
 was
sit on the couch
 with
toonman
 while
he
 flipped
back forth
 between
 golf
and
college football

 sunday morning
 i slept in
 again

 i woke
from
 a really weird dream
 pieces of which
 i can still
hours later
i recall
 what woke me
 was
 that my iPhone
 had turned into an iPad
 and
everything
on it
 was
 in arabic

 i really
 needed
to be able to use my address book
  since
it wasnt in english
i was getting very upset
a stranger
 a woman
 stopped
 took it from me
shaking
 she said
if you hold it up in the air and shake
it it will go back to english
 sure enough
 it did
 i embraced her
turned
to look up a phone number
only to discover
 it was back in arabic

i was very upset
 saying
 no
no
no
 no
 no
then
 waking
extremely upset

 i dont even care
why or what
 this was about
i am just glad
 it was a dream
 and
my phone apps
 are
 not
 in
arabic

after caffeinating
watching the news
 showering
 i headed out
 to get beautified™
 then
to meet my friend
 who toonman calls
blondie
for brunch
 and
shopping
 first
 we went to theory
 were
i exchanged a pair of leggings
when i bought them
 the sales person
 convinced
me
a size 6 was perfect
 its not
 i am a size 8
 anyway
they were nice enough to swap them for another style in medium
then
we went to zara
a place
that has a lot of very 'current' clothing
for not a lot of $$
i got a pair of plaid leggings/tights that were $19
 seriously
 $19
how could i not buy them?

then
we walked up to banana republic
i found a pair of corduroy slim pants
 in a paisley
 in awesome fall colors
i am very into pattern pants
 after year
of filling my closet
with
 classic wool black trousers
skinny leg jeans in mainly blue or black

 oh
 we also went to nanoosh
 for lunch
mushroom and red pepper humus wraps
with side salads
 really delish
 tho i am sure
they were extremely high in calorie

oh well

we also stopped into kate spade's new shop on columbus
they were celebrating their grand opening
 with
 white wine and rugalah
 i passed on the wine
 but
 the raisin rugalah
 really hit the spot
i had been craving
 something sweet
besides
 the sweet buys
 i got shopping

 all in all
a really good jam packed weekend

 tell me all about it

art in the park

we went for a walk
 saturday afternoon
it was gloriously chilly
 strolled down
 to
hudson river park aka riverside park south
  an extension
 of
 riverside park

 the arts students league
 has
some wonderful statues
 on exhibit
 one group
 is by an artist
i know
he's one
of the it techs i work with
 sherwin banfield
did
 this group of athletes
 titled
transition through triathalon

there were some other wonderful pieces

and

harlow

i met
harlow
outside
 yup
 irving farms coffee
 on west 72nd street

 she and her person
 were
waiting
for
their other person
 to exit
with
 coffee
 and
 possibly
 treats

 harlow is a cockapoo
 such a funny name
 cockapoo
 spell check
 wants
to change it
 to
 cockatoo
 silly
 spell check
 she's a dog
 not a bird

looking down

i went to bed
to sleep
tuesday night
woke on
wednesday morning
with
 a truly
 wonked out
back
the worst
i could barely walk
standing up straight
i felt
as if
i was listing to the right
i was

gah

took the 'regular' half a pain med
nothing
nothing

at the office
sitting
 in
 my ergonomically correct chair
i was fine

stand up
oh
 my aching back

walking like a listing cripple
took
the other half a pain med
still
nothing
nothing

by 4 pm
 i was a zombie
took
 another half a pain med

for years
 a half
never failed to ease the ache
whatever happened
 in my sleep
 was
 bad
bad
bad

at 8:30 pm
 i took another half
 went to bed
back to where it all began
another half a med
put me to sleep

awoke
 thursday morning
gingerly
i sat up
i stood
o u c h

walking
out to feed the cats
listing less
crouching
to put their bowls
down
 was likely
 amusing to see
 the contortions
 sigh
 but
 i did it

took a half a pain med
went to the office
by the time
 i needed
 more meds
 all i needed
 was
 two tylenol
a
vast
 improvement
walking
listing less
 less pain
you could say
i am better
i'll say i'm better
not sure
 what it was
oh
so
 glad
 its
gone

i am enjoying
being able to read your blogs
 without all the internet hopping
so thanks!

in my inbox

a while back
 i chastized
 my friend mary
for not reading my blog

i dont have time for it
 she emailed

 whaaaa?
i replied

 but
if it was in my inbox
i would be able to read it
she responded

so
 i added
 via
 blogger's gadgets
a way for anyone who wants
to get/read my blog
via
 email

its so easy

 well
 remember
 when i said
 how
i had all that time to read at the office
 how quiet it was

 HA

 things here
 went
 from
 snooze to hyper
 in no time
making
 it
 next to impossible
 to read or visit blogs

so today during a quiet moment
 ok
 it was really
during
 a conference call
but
no one knew
i was multi tasking

i visited
all the blogs on my sidebar
 and
signed up
to all those who have email sign ups
if you dont have
the subscribe by email gadget
 you should
 it costs nothing
 it makes it easy
for those who cant blog visit
to read
 your blog
 and
 if time permits
 to
click over
to
 leave a comment

  anyway
now you know
 if you
dont
 see/hear
 from me
 why

 i apologize
to all of you who i am not going to get to visit
 maybe
when
 life slows down
i will be able to blog hop again
 but
in the meantime
consider
adding that free gadget

i bet i am not the only one who'll subscribe!

east 71st street at madison avenue

where in she self congratulations duh congratulates

a truncated weekend
 yes
i am still whining
 about
having to work fridays
 gah

 it was gloriously like fall
 superb sleeping weather
 long sleeve t-shirt
light weight sweater
weather

i went through my closet
anything i have not worn in a year
went into a bag
 i will be passing along
 donating
 them
 to people
 who will wear them

 in the process
i rediscovered
a fabulous one button suit jacket
dkny

 i thought
it would be good
to wear
 on chilly mornings
it would give
 my other
dkny
 black former suit jacket
 a break
 a rest

 i put it on
oh
how
 funny
 the shoulders are padded
 so
huge
 let me tell
 those of you
who dont know me
 in the real 3d world
 my own shoulders
 are
already
huge
wide
 like
a full back
a wide receiver
 you know
 one of those guys
 what plays
 toonman's favorite sport

i didnt need shoulder pads back in the day
 that jacket
 needs to be restructured
 i need a good tailor
 to redo it
til then
 it will hang
in a plastic bag
 to protect it
 from cat hair

 i also moved
a lot
 of
 my
 fall into winter clothes
more to the front of the closet

 i dont have storage space
 i rotate
 the warm
 the less warm
 the lightweight
 from
back to front to middle
 depending
 on the season

 i also have
on the floor of the closet
 stacks
 of
 boots
in their boxes

 i must go through them
i know there is
 at least one pair
that will end up
 being
 retired
 permanently
due
to
 salt damage
 'they' salt the snow here
to help melt it
 it eats away
 at boots
 regardless
 of
wet weather protection application

 anyway
 i got a start
now
 i have
 i have ensured
 a return
 to humid summer temps

 no
 thanks
necessary

oh yeah
 i am loving
 the sleek smoothness
 of
the newly applied keratin to my tresses
 i am loving
 having painted my nails
a sort of grey
i am in a grey mood

i think on monday
 i will wear
 a grey light weight sweater
 with
a pair of cropped nili lotan pants
 i rediscovered

 see
 cleaning closets
 can be rewarding
not only
 do you make room
 for new purchases
you find
 beloved things
 you forgot
you owned

 win win
no?

wherein i bore even myself

it was not easy
to get up
 on friday morning
 and
go into the office

 it was a long day

 i missed my sleep in

 looked forward to saturday morning

however
  the cats
 decided
i didnt need to sleep in
 i got up at 7:30ish
 with every intention
of feeding them
 and
going back to bed

it didnt work out that way
jack is a slow poke eater
 in between bites
 he daydreams
 harry feels
 if jack
isnt eating
whatever is in his bowl
 is fair game
 so
you have to be a food monitor
sigh
 i stayed up

 later
 i took the bus crosstown
 to get my hair unflippy
 a little keratin
 on the bottom
 smoothed away
 the
 that girl flip

 anyway
it was a beautiful day for a walk
when i got back
i made toonman walk what he calls
the loop
with me

now he's watching football

 i spotted this advertisement
for a perfume company called
 bond no. 9
 parked
 on east 72nd street

the shop is on madison between east 72 and 73

margie

margie
 and
 her person susan
 are friends
 of
 lexi and her person judith

i ran into them last weekend
 on broadway
near
 the t-mobile shop

they were out walking
 i was schlepping
 stuff
 home from citarella

 margie
 is
either
 an entlebucher
 or
 a pitt beagle mix
 regardless
she was happy to pose
 tho
she wasnt overly fond of her collar
 kept
trying to scratch her neck
 it took a few attempts
 to get
 her
sitting pretty

 see her leg back there

 yup
she's about to give that collar a good shot with her foot

two things

first
 today
 is the birthday
of
 my best friend
 the man i love
 more than anyone
 more than anything

 happy birthday to you
my honey

second

 i want to tell you
 about
 something/someone
both my guy and i are very proud of
 Joseph
 is our 'adopted' son
his real mother is a good friend
who has lets us pretend he is also ours

Joseph is a very talented filmmaker
his dream is to get his latest project
 a documentary
 about Off Track Betting
 (OTB)
 fully funded
 and

well
 i will let you read
 what he wrote
when
 he announced his
 Kickstarter campaign:

The OTB Documentary film is well over 80% complete, but there is so much work left to be done.
Shooting the final interviews, obtaining archival footage, and polishing the editing still must happen before "Finish Line: The Rise and Demise of Off-Track Betting" can hit the screen.

The film still needs your help!

Please take advantage of the amazing rewards that are offered by contributing to this Kickstarter campaign.

We only have 29 days to exceed our goal or we don’t get nothin'.

You can also help by going to our Facebook page - OTB Documentary Film - and "LIKE" us.

Many of you have been a part of this historic project since the beginning, and I am grateful for all of your support. I will continue to update you on the film's progress.

Let's continue on this journey together and bring "Finish Line: The Rise and Demise of Off-Track Betting" into the Winner's Circle.

Thank you.
Joseph Fusco
