weekend buzsim'd

central park south
 across
 from
 central park
 lots of taxi cabs
 midday
friday
 had another dentist visit
 this time to remove stitches
it was such a gorgeous afternoon
 out on the street
 i paused
 for
 a
second
 before walking toward columbus circle
not
 the subway
 back to the office

 in my defense
there was no one expecting me back
but
i did think about it

saturday
 was spent
 erranding
 being lazy
 not
joining toonman for a walk in the park
 tho
later i went foraging for food
 walking the hood
 checking out shop windows
 bringing home some thai
 that
honestly
 disappointed

 i went to
land
a small previously wonderful thai restaurant
ordered things
 crispy calamari
 house salad
shrimp buns

 none
 of which
like it used to be
 calamari was rubbery not crispy
the salad was iceberg with some beets some fried tofu and the dressing on the side was frozen!
the shrimp rolls
 toonman said
 needed
 something
i didnt like them at all

 tossed their take away menu

sunday
 was a day of beautification
a day spent with a friend
 drinking coffee
 hanging out

 stopped on the way home
to get some sushi
 from
 momoyo
hoping its as good as remembered
 i will let you know

sweep

saturday
my sister asked
did i want to go for a walk tomorrow

 i told her
i have other plans

 street fairs
 are beginning
to pop up on the uws

making me
 miss my friend wendy
a lot

i'd been thinking
there's no one to go wander with

have other plans
i
 made other plans
for today
i think
because
i knew
i would not want to go without her

maude

maude,
the furbaby of a friend, jill, in cincinnati
was featured here
 back in the december 2012

because
i havent taken any recent dog photos
i thought you might like to see maude again
so cute

read any good books lately?

i have

i finished
 gillian flynn's
Dark Places
 the other day
can
 not
stop thinking about it

  ms flynn wrote
  Gone Girl
which i have not read

  the following
 is a c/p synopsis from bn.com
i was trying to write my own synopsis
 but
couldnt do it without giving away key plot points

"Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.” As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived–and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who’ve long forgotten her.
The Kill Club is a macabre secret society obsessed with notorious crimes. When they locate Libby and pump her for details–proof they hope may free Ben–Libby hatches a plan to profit off her tragic history. For a fee, she’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club . . . and maybe she’ll admit her testimony wasn’t so solid after all.
As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the narrative flashes back to January 2, 1985. The events of that day are relayed through the eyes of Libby’s doomed family members–including Ben, a loner whose rage over his shiftless father and their failing farm have driven him into a disturbing friendship with the new girl in town. Piece by piece, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started–on the run from a killer."
i highly recommend this book
its a really good involving read
 the main character
 libby
 has some serious issues

this is one whodunnit
 you will not figure out
til the end
 unless
 of course
you're one of those
 who
 reads
 the
 end
 first

digging it

this backhoe was digging on west 79th street

do you love google?
i do
 as
 a
 search engine
a way to dig into info
 not
as the parent of blogger
 that google
i have lots of issues with
 like
 yesterdays post
 that was
 most
 absolutely
 definitively
 set
to post on the 24
 but posted on the 22

i digress

 yesterday
i was thinking of an old album
 yes
 an album
 those vinyl things
you need
 an actual turntable
 to play
 well
 i was drawing a blank
 on both
the album name
 and
 who the artist was
 his name
was on the tip of my tongue
 refusing
to make it to my brain
 try as i might
 i couldnt remember
 then
 it came to me
 the artist is a drummer
he looks like bob hoskins

i let that ferment a bit
 still nothing

 so i went to google
 i typed in
drummer who looks like bob hoskins

voila

 phil collins

 come on
 admit it
that
 was awesome
 and
 he does look like hoskins

 itunes is so together
 it knew
 i already owned
 jacket not required

i went to the music app
on my iphone
 there it was
 in the cloud

my step daughter gave me a gift certificate to itunes for my birthday
keeping your entire music library in the cloud
 is under $25 a year
 that way
 with
wifi
 you can listen
 to any of your music
anywhere
 without
it all being on your phone eating up memory

 so cool

while i am typing
 i am listening
via earbud
 to a blast
 from the past
enjoying it while
 i work!

a water tower and some weird stuff

Apologies
 to
 any and all
who saw this post
on
Monday

I dont know
 why or how
 that
happened
I double checked
 and
I had, indeed, set it to post on Wednesday
GAH!!

this was shot on broadway
 near fairway
 between 74th and 75th streets
 or
 maybe not

the other day
i was sitting at my desk in the office
 when suddenly
 my throat
 developed
 one of those dry spots

do you know what i mean?

 one second i am fine
 swallowing is easy
 then suddenly
there's a spot on the inside of my throat
 that feels
oddly dry
 as if
when i swallow
 its pulling
the rest of my throat in
 causing me
to feel as if i am suffocating
 okay
maybe
thats a slight exaggeration
 but
 still
its odd

 drinking water
does not make it go away
 it does
 eventually
 stop feeling weird
 it goes away
 taking
 my voice with it
 sort of

i dont become mute
tho i am sure some would wish that were the case
 no
 not mute
more
 raspy
yeah
 raspy
 is the best explanation

 in relating
 this
to
 Toonman
 i got
quizzical
 bordering on
 skeptical
 looks
 and
 a complete disclaimer
 as to ever
 having experienced this phenomena

 does your throat do this?

 its one of an assortment
 of
odd body reactions
my body
seems to have

there's the tingling i get in my left shoulder for no apparent reason
 which is totally unrelated
 to the oddly scary heaviness
 i occasionally feel
 in either arm

 once or twice
it happened to both arms at the same time
 now
 that
was
 really
 scary

 both arms feeling weighted down
i dont even try to lift them
 it would be impossible

 it passes
usually in far less time than it feels

i did tell the doctor about this
because
i was sure
it was indicative of a stroke
 but
he said it was from a pinched nerve
 he insisted
 it must happen
when i have been sitting too long
 except it isnt
 and
 i told him so

 he shook his head
said it was a pinched nerve
i didnt tell him what i thought of his diagnosis
i just tucked away his reaction
 so
when
 i do stroke out
i can say
 told
ya
so

do you have weird body reactions
please say you do
 or
 Toonman will surely say
 told
 you
so

unedited

really
 its SOOTC
but
 signed
 so purists might say
 it is edited
 i am not now
 nor have i ever
 pretended
 to be a purist

took a day off blogging yesterday
 too lazy
 is my excuse
caused my sister to call to ask if i was okay
toonman also wondered if i was okay
 yup
just lazy

 did the whole beautification™ thing
 pedi to blow-dry
 on a saturday
 because
my friend larry was in town
sunday brunch
 was organized
our friend kathy flew up from florida

 we met at
lips
for their broadway drag brunch
 it was a lot of
 fun
laughs
amazingly
 decent food
 i recommend it
if you're looking
 for
 something
 that's not your usual
sidewalk cafe
 bloody marys with eggs benny
brunch

took that photo
 with
 the iphone
 out
 a cab window
 on the way back
 from
brunch

subway series

april 18th
6:58 am
last car
broadway irt local #1
at
79th street

its interesting
 to see
 how the crowd changes
 day to day

 i take this shot
every morning
 as
 i step into the car
as the doors are closing
i try to be casual about it
 not be noticed
 some mornings
 i get away with it
 some mornings
 i am busted
 some mornings
there's someone
 looking
 right into the lens

 not in this morning!

whats that mark twain quote?

i'm hooome!

i was in the clinic
lots of humans were good to me
 but they weren't
my
humans

 i am lots better
i am home
 i ate
my food
 even tho
that guy jack
growled
at
me

he's jealous
i got a get well letter
 from
 miss kitty
he
didn't

oh yeah

water tower

sunday
 at 11:15 am
 the southwest corner
 of
72nd street and west end avenue

 how do i know
 precisely
 where
 when
 an unusual occurrence for sure
 but
 i know
 i know
 because
 i paused here
waiting to cross on the green
 i was toting harry
 in the carrier
 he was not screaming
 but
he was doing
 a great impression
of
a trapped gymnast

we were on the way to the vet

 he's spent 3 days/nights
in the clinic
being monitored
surgery
has now been ruled out
a major relief

he will be well and home soon

my poor wallet

took this on saturday on 79th street looking east toward park avenue

seriously
its tough
 to think about
 collecting miles
for $$ spent
 when your mouth is sore
having to eat
soft
softish
 food
 chew only on one
 side brush softly
 only on one side
down antibiotics
before taking two tylenol
so you can sleep

poor me

 then
wake in the middle of the night
 because
 your hearing
is
so
 good
you can hear a hairball
 being expelled
even
 though
 a shut door

have you heard about mary roach's book gulp?

 her description
of food
being swallowed
 (and expelled)
in cylindrical form
 is spot on

 tmi?

 sorry

harry spent the rest of the day
alternating
 napping
and
 going into the litter box
 to throw up

 i find that extremely civilized

 sunday morning
 i woke
 to the sound of retching

off to the vet we went
he's still there
poor guy
 has some intestinal blockage

hopefully
 it will pass
 and
 wont need surgery

our fabulous dr kaplan had the weekend off
dr li called and the man came in to do harry's sonogram
he really is the most wonderful man/doctor
he'll do a second tomorrow
 hopefully
 the foreign body
or
 humongous hairball
 will have passed

all this harry stuff
totally
distracted
me
from my whining about my dental woes
now where was i?

coco chanel

no new dog photos

 coco chanel
 makes a repeat appearance

 you may recall
 i met her
 at
polished beauty bar
 several months ago

 well here she is again

 i am fairly sure
 i didnt use
 this
 photo
 back then
  if i did
 well
you can enjoy it a second time

 i spent yesterday afternoon
 at the periodontist
 having
 more
 fractured roots
 removed
 a lovely experience
 which
 cost me
 beaucoup bucks

 told myself
 its miles
 i am
getting
 more
 miles

 riiiight

lying liars

snapped
 as
 i walked past
 on my way
 to
 trudge
up
 36
 stairs

 the escalator
in the times square subway station
 had been broken
 again
 in mid december

its broken more often then it works

last nite toonman and i were discusing
 how the mta
 would do well
 to keep
 a repair person
 on staff
on site

 shortly
 after the beginning of 2013
 'they'
blocked off
 the broken escalator
 with
 this
 big blue wall
 that narrows
 the 36 step staircase
so during rush hour
going up or down the stairs
is a slow process

 no one in new york
seems
 to
 'get'
 the premise
 of
'stay to the right'

  that sign
 was recently revised
 to
 'on or about 4/11/13'
 because
 the original sign
 promised
 completion
 by
 4/1/13

was that an april fool joke gone wrong?
 i doubt it
the mta doesnt seem to have much of a sense of humor

the walk to the working escalator at 42nd and 7th
 is quite a long walk
 especially
if you already have walked
 to this exit
 and
 discovered
 this sign

another
myth
 is this
 heatwave
 we're having
 while
 some of the country
 is still getting snow
 we're 20+ degrees warmer
 in nyc
 than
 'normal'

 well here's a fact
 every
 single
 april
as far back as i can recall
there's
been
 one week
 where the temps
suddenly
 soar
 up
into
 the high 70s
even the 80s

 everyone marvels
at this arrival of summer temps

 the week ends
 with
 colder temps
that remain through the end of april
am i
the only one
 who notices?

water tower

i am pretty sure
 this
 was taken by me

 more than that
 i cant tell you

 that banner
 there on the right?

 normally
would indicate it was somewhere along broadway

but
the low building
 isnt on broadway

i want it to be on west end avenue

 but
they dont have banners
 like that along west end

hey
 its a pretty blue sky
there are
 two
 twin?
siamese twin?
 tanks
you're welcome

it was all about food

met
 my blister angie's daughter rachel
for mani/pedis and brunch
 its now a monthly meeting
 to help her transition
 into
 newyawkcitay
 living
she goes to school at fit
 lives in the dorm
 has two part time jobs
 so
 taking her out
 spoiling her
 is fun

we met my sister and my sis (my friend judy)
 apres
 polished beauty bar mani/pedis
at
 fusha
on amsterdam
for asian and 'almost' asian food'
 grazing
 through
 some wonderful tapas

 judy reminished about the desserts
 we had
christmas eve

it was unanimously
 decided
 dessert was in order

to
sugar and plumm
we
went

rachel
had
the turtle
judy
had
 the jack tripper
my sister and i
opted
 for
 scoops
 of
salted caramel ice cream

burp

(for photos of all the food we ate go to instragram or facebook where rachel and i posted lots of pix)

train of thought running local

here
comes
the
 train of thought local
join me

 lazy
didnt feel like washing/drying my hair
 especially
 since it was just cut
when its just cut
it does not like
washing
conditioning
hot air blow drying

 it reacts
 by
dropping
dead

couldnt bear the thought
 of
expending
all
that energy

 hey
 it is not easy
 blow drying
 my
own
 hair

 i could do better
 with
a third arm

 without it

not easy

i bet a lot of you will agree

 so
 i took myself
 to my local salon
 to my friends
 sandy
 and
 nicole
who gives the most amazing head massage

i told nicole how much i have missed her
really
 one
does
 not
massage one's head/scalp
 in the shower

 its exhausting

it takes a long time

 my skin gets that
water logged look
odd
'cause my skin is drier then the mojave

apres my hair indulgence
i went into a little shop
it seems the only way i am getting near paris
 for now
 is via a local boutique
 called
 montmartre

i bought this missoni-ish cardigan
 in wonderful
 browns and golds

a girl cant have enough cardigans
 they are a lifesaver
 for anyone
having hot flashes

a nice tank top under a cardigan
saved a friend of mine
 many times

never had hot flashes myself
 i
wanted to kill people
i know its hard to believe
 but
 then
 i met
estrace

 my days of contemplating murder
are
in the past

 just like this old shot
 of
 very
 unattractive
 glass towers

i played with in topaz labs
 til it turned into something
i wouldnt be ashamed to claim

i am on a building kick
 like
 all
 my obsessions
 this too will fade

banjo

his ear is fine
it was just curled back due to gusty winds
he and his person
were
 relaxing on a bench
 on columbus avenue
 behind the museum
 where the farmer's market
 sets up
on
sundays

i could have saved it for a wednesday

post grist is still slim
 so
i went into the photo library
buildings
its a large file
surely there's something

oh
 remember that afternoon
the bright no clouds strong sun sky?
but
 that building
behind
 the wonderful old building
 is
distracting
it has to go

things were going well
 i was cloning
 out
the intrusive tower
 when
 as
 no one
 should be surprised
 things
went
 awry

but
wait!

 among those textures
 lisa
 sent
 there were clouds!

voila

not only clouds
 but a post

i am pretty sneaky

look ma, no hands

thats a rooftop at the cloisters
 up in fort tryon park
 a subway and bus ride
 from the uws

 took this
 the first time
 i
 'traveled'
 with my friend mary

  many of you
 have asked after her
sent her well wishes
she is indeed
 on the mend
 back at work

   i had nothing prepared here
to share
 but
 last evening
(really right now, but not the right now you are in right now)
i sat with lisa's excellent instructions
 a photo that needed nothing
but
  i like it
i added
 a texture
 lisa shared with me
called brest

i messed up
 'brushed' away
too much
 so
 i added pixel layer
and
 cloned it back!

 - look ma, no hands -

i didnt cry once!

have you fought photoshop and won?

water tower

took this in september 2012
 i know this
 because
 hipstamatic
 adds
 the date
the film
 the lens
 info
 to every photo
 one needs
 but
 to look

 i am still sad
i am not in paris
i have pulled up my big girl socks
i am trying to wade out of self pity mode

 the good news
 is
 my friend mary
 is on the mend
 we will reschedule
 but
 i do not plan
 on
 discussing
 it
i am not going to do anything to jinx it

flitting

well life sometimes changes without much warning
one minute you're flitting around and next you're not

my trip to paris is canceled
my friend mary,
 who i was traveling with,
was hospitalized
 this past weekend

while she is on the mend
our plans have come to a screeching halt
so you're stuck with me

i now need to come up
 with some new posts
off to work on that

city daily photo theme day - pedestrians crossing

i am leaving for paris
 in the morning
 but
 i wanted
 to participate
 in the
 city daily photo
 monthly theme
 april's theme
 is
 pedestrians crossing

 i took this shot
at the corner of 58th street and fifth avenue
the week between christmas and new year
 this past december

 new york city
 is
always
 hustle and bustle

come the holidays
 the streets
 become
 even more crowded
 with
 tourists
 and
 locals
who come to view the holiday windows
as well as
shoppers

 i wont be posting
 while i am away

 ten days in paris
 is a dream come true

 i plan
 on taking
 a ton and a half
of photos
 to share
 when i return

 in the meanwhile
so you dont miss me too much
 i have set up
 a slew of photos
 to
 'post ahead'
 on
 through my eyes
 so
if you crave a photo fix
click
 over there
 by
 clicking
  here
(just know that i turned off the comments on those photos so that my gmail isnt swapped upon my return)

and

the other city daily photo bloggers
are

see you when i get back!
