it wasnt all that great
in its original form
 AND
this enhances the shadows

 early morning
in
Times Square

I am still
putting together
my Brooklyn Bridge Park shots
did I mention
I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge?
I think
everyone
who lives here
 or
 visits here
should
its just over a mile walk
that
translates
into
approximately 20 city blocks
plus
 its cool
 breezy
 the view
 is
unbeatable

 meanwhile
enjoy
 Sunday
 and
its shadows
I sure am

sharing with

waiting

this old guy
 was
 featured
 in a collage
 I did several months ago
he was waiting
 outside
a restaurant in Manayunk a suburb of Philly
  I apologize
 for this
sort of
re-run
but
my Fridaycation adventure
got me
 a
lot
 of photos
 that need tweaking
 and
there's
 a
special post
that needs writing
 and
we're going to a cocktail birthday party
la dee dah

I promise
a
 good
chatty
 post
 filled
 with fotos
 soon

 til
then
 enjoy your weekend
I am definitely enjoying mine

three

Ooops
 cant
 this
as much
 as big
as
I would
like

its an Instragram iPhone photo
 of
three
paper birch trees
they live along the path
just as you walk
 from
Riverside Park
 into
Riverside Park South

we walked
all the way down along the river on July 4th
I love
the way
these
 'peel'

the rough bark
sort of
 reminds
me
 of
pineapple

 squint
peek through your lashes
  see
if you dont think so too

water towers

did you know
there are
 10,000
 water towers
dotting buildings
 over 6 stories
 throughout the five boroughs?

I am
hoping
 this
Fridaycation
 will have better weather
 than the previous
 I really
want to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
get pix of the stained glass water tower
and
visit Brooklyn Bridge Park
 to see the restored carousel

 til then
 we'll have to settle
 on this
Upper Eastside
 water tank
elevated
above
 what looks to be
a building
from the less than wonderful boxy architecture
 of the 1960s

I wont run, dont ask me

if you know me
 at all
 you know
 I
do
not
run
I wont run
 don't ask me
 I wont even trot
across the street
 to
 'make the light'
is that an expression
unique
to
New York City?

It was a lovely weekend here
 I cant ignore
the elephant in the room
 it was horrible
to wake on Friday morning
and
 learn that more innocent people
 lost their lives
to an unbalanced person
 and
 in of all places
 a movie theatre
my heart goes out to everyone in Aurora

my weekend
was really nice
I am still working through
waking
 on
Saturday
 lying there
wondering is it Sunday?

 Friday
 it rained
it was thoroughly nasty
 I decided
I should
 finally
take on the task
of
 organizing
the
 'under the sink'
mess
I ordered these very neat organizers
 two
 double drawer
 pull out
 things
 I measured
 under
 the sink
 twice
 before buying
 when it arrived
I took one and tried it out
fit
perfectly
then I left it to collect dust bunnies
to become something
I put things on top of
I am a sloth
but
finally
 that rainy day
I was waiting for arrived
  pulled out all the crap
 went through it
 tossed a lot
kept more than I should
 organized the remaining crap
into
 the first drawer

 done

organized the second
 put it in

done

 then
 I went
 to put
 the other
organizer
 in
 and
what?
there's a faucet attached the pipes
 it blocks
the top drawer of the organizer on the right

 ... AAAARRGH ...

okay
 I can handle this
a few minutes of considering the situation

got it!

 I swapped out drawers
 so
on the left
we have 3
the middle one holds things needed for travel
on top of it
I put the samples I couldnt toss
samples
 of what you are thinking
 of cosmetics
 of creams
of lotions
 freebies
 I cant toss
who knows
one day
I'll need some
 of course
 I know
when that day comes
I will likely go out and buy whatever
because
I will have forgotten I have some in that drawer under the sink

Saturday
was another
 all about me day
I know
its often hard to distinguish
 those days
 from
ordinary days
 the 'tell'
 is
a
 massage

a blissful
60 minutes
 of
 kneading
 that leaves me feeling
 limp

 to regain my oomph
a short shopping expedition on the Upper Eastside is next
 hey
I only get there once a month

bussed it back to the westside
 for my weekly appointment
with Sandy who tames my hair
 next
food/munchie shopping at Zabars and Trader Joe

the evening
 spent
catching up on recorded programs
 The Newsroom
True Blood
The Closer
 Political Animals
(a new one and quite good)
with Toonman

Sunday
its
mani/pedi time
at
Polished
this
Sunday
 it was spent reading
The Last Vampire by Glen Duncan
(so far I am really liking it)
 then
 Toonman and I
 took a walk
 60 minutes
 of
pretty fast paced
walking
only
3 stops for photo ops
 iPhone version

that evening with nothing to watch
we play
Words with Friends
Toonman is my co-pilot
 he looks at the board
spotting good point opportunities
he lets me
DrawSomething
with
only peeks to see if he can guess
what I am doodling

amazing another weekend recapped
thanks for sitting through it
you really are the best!

This charming woman
and
 her
 three
 4-leggd friends
 were
taking a break
 in the shade
Fourth of July weekend
whilst
Toonman and I
 were
 taking a stroll
down along
Riverside Park South

  You
 have
no
 idea
 how
fricking
hard
 it was
 to make this collage
 of course
it
 took me
 several tries
before
 I realized
 I needed
smaller
 resolution
 images

... DUH ...

 hello Picmonkey,
it would help if you'd let a gal know
 why
 she cant upload ginormous images

 ... GAH ...

 I did figure it out
there it is for your viewing pleasure

day and night

both
 these photos
were taken with
 the
 Instagram app
 on
my iPhone

full disclosure:
 they
 have
also
been
 edited
 using
Topaz Labs Simplify 3 Oil Painting preset

this is
 the
 main whatever
 in
 the
Times Square subway station
 where
all
 the westside lines
 come together
along
 with
the shuttle to the east side

  the
top photo
 was taken at
7:15ish A.M.
 the bottom photo
 was taken at
 almost 5 P.M.
from
 approximately
 the
same
 spot

  as crowded
 as it seems
 it gets
 even
more
 so
 in less than 5 minutes

thankfully
 I
have
 learned
 to
time
 my passage
 through
 the sea of commuter humanity

  its
Fridaycation
my plans
 are
if the weather is nice
to go
down
 to the Union Square area
 in
 search
 of
 new dinnerware

BIG camera might just come along
we'll see, wont we

enjoy your day!

three

street fair fare
tho
 after the last one
seeing
 that vendor handling money
 with
 the same protective gloves
 he handled the food with
I am not sure
I am eating
anything on the street

 however

 these are amazing looking
 they are crisp potato twirls
 cut
with some special Popeil gadget
(Google Ron Popeil, go ahead)
 so they are twirly
and
on those skewers
 as they are plunged
 into
hot grease
 and
fried
and
salted
 ... sigh ...
I am sure
they have no calories at all
as they are eaten whilst walking
 which
of course
automatically
cancels all the calories,
if my late Aunt Molly were here
she'd tell you that's true
oh
she
 also
 claimed
 ice cream
 had
 no fat
calories

water towers

this
 is
so
 funny
 to me
 its like
playing peek-a-boo
with your hands over your eyes
 but
fingers spayed open
 I can see you
 up there
 amid
 those cell towers
 its
as
 if
 they
 have
 circled
 to protect you

oh I love your sun hat

late start

After
 a
really
 wonderful
weekend
I got into the office
 to find
 chaos
 over a change
 in
WiFi access
oy
and
vey

So how was your re-entry?
How was your weekend?

  Mine
was as I said
 wonderful
really
 wonderful
having
Fridaycation
 is the best,
 tho I admit
 that on Sunday
 I awoke
 in a mild panic
thinking
 it was Monday
 thankfully
 my half awake brain
told
my half asleep brain
 it was Sunday
a return to sleep ensued

 BUT
 back on Friday
 armed
with
pliers, screw driver, some weird looking wrenches
and
 8 pieces of desk
 along
 with
 assorted screws, washers, bolts
we
 put the desk together
without
one
damn
 fuck
or
 even
 an eye roll

 then
Toonman
 hung my art,
my Alice Balterman decoupage mirrors,
 and
 .. drum roll ..
the BIG mirror
that has been sitting
leaning
 against
 the bookshelves
for more years than I can remember
here are some photos

there it is under all the clutter

from the right side behind the computer

from the left side behind the computer

I have photos
 of
my Blisters
 at
Blogfest outside the Sea Shanty
and
 Atlantic Grill this past February

 there's my favorite wedding photo
me eating cake
so lady like
HA!

here's the whole corner with the art
I thought I took pix of the art
turns out
I didnt

On Saturday morning
 I beautified
in the late afternoon
Kate
arrived
only 5 minutes later than she planned
 after
 horrific traffic
she was rewarded
 with
a legal parking space
outside my apartment!

we cabbed it to Robert

started
with
a Wartermelon Martini, hold the mint

an amuse bouche

we finished with lots of desserts
the Bombolini
was
mine

dont we look satisfied?

Mike and Emma, Lauren's gorgeous twins, Annie, Kate, Lauren and moi

Kate
(for more better pix, go to Kate's blog here)
spent the night at her son's apartment
 and
they joined me for brunch

the check
comes
 with
a little bowl of
 salt water taffy

Sunday
rested

I hope you dont feel too hungry
 after
 all those food pix
or
too tired after all the fix up pix
its always more fun with you!

oh
none of the photos is/are signed

its been a wonderful
busy weekend
 filled with
 good friends
 good food
 good drink
 now
 that
 its
 almost over
 I am vegging out
 in place of words
 I leave you
 this city street scene

I hope
you
 are
 all
 having
 the
 Sunday
 you want
I know
I am

This sweetie
in Riverside Park
 is
 eating
the remainder
 of a treat
his/her person gave her/him
 I tried to catch
him/her
 catching
the treat
 as it was tossed
 but
 I wasnt fast enough
 this
 was
my consolation shot

  Late
start
this morning
after
 a fabulous night out
with
 the girls

 tons
 of
 Instragram
 food
 drink
and
 silly photo bombs
 at
 Robert
our favorite restaurant
 but
 I digress
more about that in another post
 now
I need to get it together
for
beautification™
and
 brunch
with my friend
Kate

fly or stay?

its Friday!

Fridaycation for me
and
 the 2nd blogversary
(edited because not only am I directionally challenged I am also innumerate)
of
 Through My Eyes
the artsy blog
I created
why am I announcing this here?
because
 Through My Eyes
is a
totally
wordless
blog
well okay
there are titles
clever
titles
for the photos
check 'em out!

Today
I am helping Toonman
finish installing my new desk
hang the new art
and
the old mirror

the mirror
 that has waited
 even
 longer to be hung
then
the walls
 waited
 to be painted

tonite
I am dining
 with
some fabulous women
 good friends
 will once again
be the place
 the occasion
is
one
 last
dinner
 together
 before
 MentalPMama aka Lauren
leaves the Northeast for Tennessee
its not that far
 so
she wont be lonesome
 besides
she's moving
not
 giving up her

So
what are your plans for the weekend
will you fly away
or
are you hanging close to home

Nosy bloggers want to know!

three

these
 three
windows
 are at the top
 of a building
on
Madison Avenue
between
 76th and 75th Street
or
maybe
 its
 76th and 77th Streets
  I forget

 I know
 I am a terrible navigator
I have no sense of direction
 ask Lauren or Toonman

 it wasnt
 the 3 windows
 that caught my eye
it
was
 the greenery
peeking over the top
 of the roof

water towers

that
water tank
reminds
me
 of a watering can
the drain or rain pipe
 leading down
from
the roof above
 looks like the
... what is that called, the spigot? ...
I am thinking
 thats
not
right
 ... whatever ...

those
 are
residential buildings
 its interesting
to me
that
 all
three
are of totally different building materials
 of course
I cant be sure
 but
 I think
 its
at
 70th Street
 where
Broadway and Amsterdam
 intersect

another monday

this time
 its a
sort of full week
 I do have
 Fridaycation
 to look forward to
 and
 a dinner
 with good friends

weather
 is supposed
to be less oppressive
 this week
 tho
 the weekend
 is shaping up
 to be
 heat wave #4

did you know
that on this date
 in 1936
NYC
set a record high temperature
 of
106
 I do believe
 that was well
before
air conditioning

so if you felt a little like this

this past week
you know
 how
 those people
 felt
back in
1936

We
 took
 a walk in the park
 late yesterday afternoon
 I
 did
not
 take
my
camera
 I decided
 we should just walk
 walk
 we did
but
soon
 I had my iPhone out
snapping
Instagrams and Hipstamatics
amazingly good WiFi in the park
Toonman looked at me and said
No camera, huh?

its often good to let him have the last word
except to say
thank you for coming along

shadows

these shadows
look
cool

cool
as in no sun
less heat
temps have been high
humidity is right up there with it

I believe its a tie

stopped home between errands yesterday I swear when I left the house not 10 minutes after arriving it was noticably hotter and more humid
I still had things to do and it was only 11 a.m.!!!

yesterday
the Brad Stroman painting I bought in Santa Fe
arrived
the 3 Alice Balterman decoupage hand mirrors
have been 'fixed'
(I am sure there's a word to describe taking something to the framer but only getting it wired)
 to hang
 an installation
if you will
 will be done
photos of the new
 art wall
that is adjacent
 to my desk
which is about to be replaced
will be taken and shared

Casa Edelstein is gettin' it groove on

meanwhile please take care of yourselves
its
scary hot out there!

waiting

not
exactly
waiting
 more
 like
wait for me

 these two little dogs
 and
 their respective people
were
 not
 together
the little dog
 with the dark markings
 seems
 to be calling out
 to the other pup
 to
 wait up

 I couldnt resist
 giving this photo
 a touch
of
Topaz Labs BW Effects Toned Collection Antique Dye II

the pups
 were
exiting
the promenade
 leading
 to the
 Community Gardens
 in
Riverside Park

giving it the fish eye

I took that shot of my desk with the fun fish eye Olloclip lens the cats got me for Mother's Day

do things feel a little weird?

after
all the celebrating
on the Fourth
 some of us
had
to go back to work
 on the Fifth

It wasnt bad
 at all
 aside
from getting up before the crack of dawn
 the subways were practically empty
the streets seemed more like a Saturday
 than a Thursday
the office was like a ghost town

 Europeans
take the month of August as holiday time
 here in the States
most people
 seem
 to
 tack their vacation
 on to
holiday weeks
 like
Memorial Day,
Fourth of July
 and
 Labor Day

so they get a few extra days
 'free'

personally
I love
 those weeks
 because
 everyone else is gone
 so
 no lines
no crowds
 no stress

 I worked Thursday
 for me
Friday is a vacation
 Fridaycation
 a tradition
I began several summers ago
love it
love it
so much
I didnt mind
working
 Thursday

 did I mention
there was no one in the office
 but
me?
  Yup.
 my own
private
AC'd space
 quiet
I did a little catch up
while the bosses #1, #2 and The Cousin are away
 no phones rang
 no one came to visit

 sigh
 it was
 almost
like
 it was
before
our group grew and moved into this space

so what did you do on Thursday?
what's on your agenda for the weekend?
noisy bloggers are askin'

three

there was
an unsightly lamp post
 in this shot
 I
attempted
 to clone it out
 in doing so
 I muddled the building

I could have pretended
it was like this when I took it
 or
I could have done
 the old
'oh shoot, when did that happen'
(used to do that back in the day when I wore hose ... oh no, when did that run - ladder to you Brits - happen?!)
 but
on our nation's birthday
I'm going to do a
  Washington
which is to
go with the truth

I chopped down, er, I did a sloppy clone job
 .. sigh ..
life's like that sometimes.

happy fourth

amazing
 isnt it?
 I knew
if
I searched my massive archives of photos
there would be
 a water tower
and
 a flag
 together

 right I was
 of course
this is quite an old shot
 taken just before it rained
 or
 maybe
it was just a stormy sky
 that threatened
but
didnt act
in any case
 its
 the
 Fourth of July

 I hope
 you have
 sunny skies
low humidity
 and
power back
for those
who lost it

 please
be safe
 and
enjoy our nation's birthday!

hot enough?

Seriously
 its hot
 its humid
 its summer
 in the city
the country
 the mountains
 and
at the shore

my Fridaycation
 was
 spent indoors
after a brief expedition to the store
 I skipped
walking with Toonman
 this weekend
 he went early
 before it got insanely hot
a good plan

it was so unexciting at Home Sweet Home
a lot of water was drunk
a lot of recorded TV was caught up on

I will miss
 Game of Thrones
 we watched
the last 3 episodes of the season
 all at once
we watched
 the pilot/premiere episode of
News Room
 I love Aaron Sorkin's writing
 if you've never watched
 Sports Night
 watch it on NetFlix
its wonderful
and
I succumbed to Downton Abbey
I've two episodes left
I dont want it to end
I will miss the detestible O'Brien and Thomas
as much as I do
Anna and Mr Bates
but most of all Cousin Violet

Since I am not a beach person
I hate the sand
I dont like not knowing where the bottom is when I go into water
I do a lot of things indoors
aside from
sitting on the couch watching TV
I sit on the couch and read
I sit at the computer and surf
I sit on the couch playing Words with six different Friends on the iPad
and
my friend Annie and I
are up to
113 turns
of
DrawSomething

this post was so exciting
I believe I need a calm photo to wrap it up
hang on while I look for one
here you go

Toonman's desk
so
is it hot enough?
