three

Toonman
pointed out
these 3 trees
maybe
 longer

 they stand in Riverside Park
near those stairs
which lead up to
Riverside Drive
 at
 80-something street
 .. duh ..
cannot remember
 I think
 the heat
 is
 sucking
out
my memory
and

 it
with
mush

water towers

I took this
 from
 inside
 Riverside Park

I was aiming
 right at
80th Street
where we live
this water tower
 sits atop
some sort of added on structure
 to
Riverside Towers
a small inexpensive hotel
next door
to our
brownstone

I added to the photo
 using
Topaz Labs BW Effects
Opalotype Collection
Tea Green Fall Off Preset

all my weekend plus camera bag review

there's a mouthful of a post title
if you follow me on Instagram
you've likely seen a lot of this weekend
 in little square photos

 you are excused
 from the opening portion
 of this photo filled post

 of course

then you'd miss the good BIG camera shots

come on back
for the camera bag review

moving along

Amtrak'd it to Philly
Reena met me
we drove to Maryland
 to Kate's
(if you click here and here you'll see more better pix of the weekend)

we sat outside
 with George
playing toss the toy
while we decided where to go for lunch

Bayard House on the water in Chesapeake City

we shared this amazing mango torte

Reena and Kate

took the obligatory shoot one another shot

we, well actually Kate
'ran' into this black snake
harmeless
but you'd have thought it was a cobra
the way the store owners reacted

we wandered in/out of antique-y shops

leaving Chesapeake City
we drove to a horse farm
nearby along
the shady leafy lanes

and got to meet these adorable foals

in the evening
we had dinner with The Professor
at
in Bryn Mawr

 that's Kate's Viejo Estilo
you should have heard her order it
she sounded like she was a native Tequilian

Sunday
we went to
Chestnut Hill
 after brunch at
in
Manayunk

this
is my favorite photo
of the weekend
it was taken by Reena's daughter Alex,

 thank you Alex!

Still with me?

I've been searching for a camera bag since I got my Nikon D90
I've never wanted a camera bag
that is an actual camera bag
 nothing
big
clunky
something
sleek
stylish
that would also hold my personal crap
of which there is a lot
wallet
metrocard case
iPhone
keys
plus
camera connecter cable
spare battery
kleenex
iPad photo adaptor
iPad photo adaptor cable
iPhone charger and its cable

so you see I needed something
big
but
light

I started out using a tote bag with pockets
but
 it had no padding
I worried about bumping into something
a valid worry for a klutz like me

I bought two Crumpler holster type camera bags
the first fit the D90 and its kit lens
but
when I got the 28-300 lens it needed a bigger bag
oy
that worked
but it didnt hold all those extras
then
I bought a Marc Jacobs Messenger bag
it was almost perfect
except
it had no padding
and
I shattered an expensive UV filter

back to looking for the perfect bag

I was snooping around Helene's blog
where I read about
Lowpro's Passport Sling

B&H Photo
as well as many other outlets sell
 Lowpro

B&H has a great return policy
so I bought it there and test drove it this weekend

here's what I discovered

all of this

3 miscellaneous zipper bags of the aforementioned stuff plus
kleenex, wallet, keys, my big lens, my macro lens, and connecter cable

fits nicely in here

there are 3 nice outside pockets
the pocket I put my wallet in can hold a bottle of water

the lens sits inside a nicely padded removeable thing
I am sure there's a real name for it

all in all a good bag at a very good price
I think I'll keep it

but

 have you seen

thanks for wading through all this
I should say no one paid me for this review
no one gave me anything
all these words are mine
seriously
who else is so verboise?

I dont understand
how it is

and
 two windows
yet
they only sit in this one

Hope
you are not in the shadows
 maybe in the shade

I'm still
out and about
with

see you tomorrow!

Did you also hear she got another new camera bag

She did not

She did

Why?

Well, she saw Helene's and decided that it would be perfect

Didnt she say that about the last 2, wait, 3?

Yeah yeah yeah

never did act on its threat
but
it was not a pleasant day

I do like that green glass facade there
and
how it contrasts the old water tank

I dont remember,
I know
I need to write it down
so
 I can tell you

when I noticed my watch stopped
I should have known it was going to be one of those days
those days? you ask
yes
those days you realize too late you should have pulled the cover up over your head
those days you realize you'd be better off not getting out of bed

but I did

standing waiting for the subway I glanced at my watch
6:45

what?

I left the house at 6:55 so how could it be 6:45
Oh look
the second hand is not moving
the battery needs replacing

GAH

Long story
short version
disclaimer: short for me may not be short for anyone else
 I was following up
on a mail order drug shipment
 that
didnt
 arrive
an order replacing
an order already lost
now
 there
are
two
 lost
orders

Aetna HomeRX seems to believe
when a shipment leaves their facility
 their responsibility ends
HA
I suspect their lawyers know better

BUT
I did what they told me
and
contacted UPS
who told me
 Aetna
needed to contact them

I asked the UPS agent if he knew what a Mobius Strip was
he didnt
I explained
 its like an infinity sign
 and
 I am trapped in it
getting no where
he apologized
he instituted a trace

because I cannot just let things go
because I cannot just mark time
because I am incapable of just waiting
I called our in-house insurance coordinator
I sicc'd him on Aetna
I do believe
 by this afternoon
 our local pharmacy
will have the meds ready to be picked up

because
you sat through all that
I thank you
 I thank you
for wading through all my angst
you deserve a really good photo as a reward
here you go

of

 stripes and shadows
 seemed to cry out

water tower

from
high atop
 one of
 The High Line's
neighboring buildings

  Toonman was there last week
looking for a location
for the next video he and Andrew are working on

He commented
that soon all there will be to see
 will be buildings
because
 the area is being developed

 a good thing I said
he didnt agree
I tried to explain
 that part,
 a large part,
 of
The High Line's charm,
attraction
 are
the surrounding buildings
 the architecture
so varied
 its as interesting
as the plantings
 as the art exhibitions/installations

  Have you been?
 What do you think?

toonsday - the phone call

Hey what's up?

I'm sitting here in the sun
with my coffee

Did you hear?

Yeah

He's sick

A cold

You know how he gets
 his nose runs
he blows it a hundred times
he gets cranky

Right

So no toon?

Nope

walk in the park

it was such a lovely weekend
 perfect walk in the park
 have an ice cream
 sit under a tree
weather

After Sandy coaxed my tresses to behave
 Toonman and I
(with BIG camera in hand)
 walked up to 90th Street
to check on the Community Gardens
then
 back down the Promenade
 and
home
 it was early
 but
nice days
 bring
bikers,
dog walkers,
people with baby carriages
 and
 lots of kids
we like it when its least congested

I hope
all the mothers had a lovely day
not being a mother
 I didnt expect anything
so
I was surprised when
Rose & Jack
 got me
the
Olloclip lens
for my iPhone!
so far
I've only played with it indoors
it doesnt fit over the hard case I have
 and
being a klutz
 I am not trusting
I can carry it
without any protection
and
not drop it

thanks for stopping by
without you its just not as much fun

funny faces

this past
Sunday
when
I was over not shooting the moon
 I beautified,
met my pal Westside Wendy
(she was planning on blogging under that name but never did I think she missed out on a good blog title)
for brunch
and
a walk to the
GreenFlea

we wandered
 up and down
 the rows of vendor tables
 the warm weather
always
 brings
new vendors

 I met
Michael A. Potecha
(map glassworks llc)
an artist
who works with
 both
 art and recycled glass
 upon
which he paints
I wish now I had my BIG camera with me
 because
 his art is gorgeous
 priced to sell
 I did tell him
I thought
he was under valuing his work
but
 he feels
 and
he is right
that in order
to get noticed
he must keep his prices down
 for now anyway

that little glass tray

(he makes tiles, tivots, serving dishes all microwave and dishwasher safe)

which could be used for everything
from a dish you keep on your dresser to put
bracelets or necklaces in
to a dish on the table
with canapes or some other small finger food
 use your imagination
Michael
sure
did

says
Connoisseur
under that painted mustache
so whimsical
he said to me
go ahead
I'll take a photo of you

Columbus Avenue at 77th Street,
he promised to come back again,
 and
 you can see his work

I know
what this means
however
 there was a time
 when I didnt
I would
look
at these words
stenciled
on every protective wall
outside every construction site
 and
wonder
why anyone would 'post a bill'

Are there
expressions
 terms
phrases
like this
 that made
you
imagine
 silly things
or
were you always
 a
mature adult?

water towers

took
 this
from
The High Line
 somewhere between
30th Street
and
23rd Street
but
I cant recall
exactly where
and
I am sorry to say
I dont know
whats
going on
behind
those
many
windows

stupid moon

HA!

I am
officially
announcing
 that
I am never ever ever again going to attempt a moon shot
  I might
out of frustration
moon
 the sky
but
shooting the moon
 with a camera
is
not
happening

  Sour grapes?

 Yes

I was psyched
 Toonman was going with me
I was going to wait til 11:25
walk to West End at 79th
at the top of the hill
 with all
of the
 Hudson River
New Jersey
spread out before me
 I was going to get
 the
penultimate
 shot
of the
Super Moon
 huge
glowing
casting light
on the
river

Saturday
had been a busy day
 I had errands
I had beautification
 I considered a nap
 because
11:30 is well past when my eyes decide to shut
 but
I didnt nap
I knew
I could stay awake
Toonman would help
I would stay awake
  we watched lots
 of what we call
 catch up TV
3 or 4 of the programs
we record to watch without commercials at an hour when I can still keep both eyes open
did I mention I fall asleep around 9:30?
Yup

Well at 10:30
 stiffling yawns
and
considering my options
I said
lets go up on the roof
see what we can see
 that way
if we cant see the moon
I can go to sleep

 lets face it
every other time
there's been a major moon shot
 the skies here have been
 dark
cloudy
lacking stars
or
moon
so
 up
we
 went
even before we walked the circumference of the rooftop
 it was obvious
 there
was
 no
moon
 the sky was starless
 it was
black
 even
the clouds
looked
black
 off to the south
(I know it was south, Lauren, because Toonman said it was)
 there seemed
 to be
 a
 lighter area
 to the clouds
as if behind it
was
 hiding this immense moon
 closer to the earth
than it will be again for many years
brighter than its been before
 a
super
moon

 but
if thats where
 the sucker was hiding
 it stayed hid

we went back downstairs
 I went to bed
but
 not
 before
 proclaiming
 Moon wins
I give up
I am never going to try this again

no, I didnt take this shot I stole it

this
is
no
 longer
 there

  all the buildings
 along Broadway
between 76th-77th Street
 are being torn down

I guess
 there will be
 a high rise
apartment building
 going  up
 in place
of the
 3 story commercial buildings
 that were there

  the neighborhood
 really
 needs
 another
 huge
high rise

NOT
