what'll I do ...

back to work
there is no alternative
Toonman and I
discussed
 the move
my company
 is going to make
 in
 'a few years'
 how
 I might want to retire
by
then

I sat
 silent
 about
a nano sec
 before
 insisting
 there
 was no way
I would ever
stop
 working

 what would I do?

 More to the point
Toonman said
you'd have to stop ...

not shopping
 not traveling
 clearly
 I am
not
retiring

aside
from
deep discussions
this weekend
 we
didnt walk
 oh
 I
walked
 I did errands
beautification™
 happened
 how could it not

even uneventful weekends are more fun with you along, thanks!

OOPS!

I forgot to mention I got lucky last week
I won
this

no, not the photo

it was windy
  very windy
this sweet pup
was
 not
liking
 it
 or
the many people
queuing up
 in
and
outside
the Shake Shack
on
 Columbus at 77th

but
when
I knelt down
 and
asked
could take his photo
 he
smiled

I really
wanted
 to clone out
 that nasty looking lamp post
but
I am a novice at cloning
I gave up

Google+ has taken over Picnik
 but
they didnt keep the
 'premium' effects
 cloning being one
 so
I went to PicMonkey
 used their
'for now its free'
 clone feature
 which would have worked
 if
had
 more
patience

so live with it in the photo
 pretend with me
 its not there
 suspend
your
belief
 you know
til recently
I thought
 the expression
 was
'suspend your
DISbelief'
 wrong

digression is my friend

 back on track
you can see
 this
is
 a trifecta of towers
 of tanks

 another thing
I learned
was
most people
 call then
water
 tanks

not me
 I like the term
tower
water tower

these 3
while looking a lot alike
are all different

enjoy looking up!

isnt this a lot better than all the 'we need it' rain?

all
sun-shiny

Sunday
8:15 a.m.
my eyes
opened
my brain
stretched
my mind
wondered:
what's wrong
 with
Jack

Jack puts
the
cat
in
 caterwauling

both cats slept in!

Of course
once I was up
so were they

the sun was up as well
the rain didnt start til much later
and
then
it
poured
it
was
cold
GAH
it was cold
it was wet
but
I still
beautified
brunched
Hipstamatic App, Americana Lens, DreamCanvas Film

browsed a boutique a bit
before
heading home
on the way
I saw these
tables and chairs
bunched
against the downpour

thanks for coming along
I hope you didnt get too wet
here's to a drier week ahead!

The benches
 in
 Riverside Park
line the Promenade
last
weekend
 as we were walking along
 I noticed
 a bench
with
 candles and flowers

I had to see
 what
 it was for

 aha

a group of people
whose dogs have
 used and enjoyed
the nearby dog run
 'bought'
 a bench
 and
 dedicated it
 to their pups

 pups
now passed
 but
who clearly were
 beloved

it reads:

In celebration of

 Bart, Peanut, Shubert, Shaggy, Maximus,
Mango, Jackson, Betty, Luvey, Scout, Sophie,
Shecky, Rudy, Suki & Playa.

Beloved doggies.

They are gone
 not forgotten
still much loved
and
always
remembered

bubbling along

heading
 into
 the weekend
 dont you
feel
 as if you've
perked up a bit
  feel light
feel bubbly

those kids
were
playing
with a
 bubble machine
 in Riverside Park
 last Saturday
Toonman, Kate and I
 took a walk
along
 the Promenade
up
to the Community Gardens
then
 back
down

it was a perfect day for a walk

this weekend
well
I hear its gonna rain
 now
dont get me
wrong
we need that rain
but
Toonman
 really
needs
his
weekend
walk(s)

Meanwhile
lets
 let
getting
 to the
weekend
keep us
buoyant
like those
bubbles!

 the
bliss of
eating it
sharing it
with my friends

 I have no idea
 where it is

 I do know

 with that aluminum thing
 and
 the cemented windows
 was
being
gutted for
renovation

friendship .. and the winners

this past weekend
 Kate, Annie, Julie and I
gathered
 in
Connecticut
 to spend time
 with
who
 is wrapping up
her
radiation treatments
this week
- get out and get your mammogram because it saves lives! -
we
had
 a
great
time

Kate and I
took
enough
 photos
 to choke a
Polaroid
I am not sharing all of them
here
because
having
Instagram'd
almost all
they are on the
Book of Faces

Kate
posted
some of her amazing photos
I will share my snaps from the BIG camera over at Through My Eyes

And
now
to the
Giveaway
I asked
Toonman
for
numbers
between 1-10

... drumroll ...

the winners are:

Beth Fish (aka Candace)
 and
deborah

this weekend was filled
with
sunshine
walks in the park
photo taking
brunch
flea market wandering
beautification™
two holidays
and
the end of bread for a week
honestly
 its not a
hardship
it is
one
of the ways
I still observe
the rituals
of my
childhood

last weekend
whilst
walking
The High Line
I spied
branches
on what I guessed was a willow tree

 wait

Googling
 I learn
 that
 the
tree or shrub
 is called
Salix discolor

it was
evolving
pussy willow buds
into
 those
caterpillar-ery looking things
that
might
 be a
'flower'
 into
 those
 lovely
little
green
leaves

thanks for visiting
as
my friend Suldog
says
soon, with more better stuff

this
handsome guy
was
 braving the cold winds
 in
Manayunk
dining outdoors
 on a
Sunday morning
two weekends ago

I loved him
he was so funny
he wanted to be photographed
but
 he was so excited
he couldnt sit still
another
passerby
stopped to admire him
 getting
his smartphone
washed
along with his hand
 finally
he settled down
I was able to get this sweet shot.

Happy Passover!

what'll i do

this weekend
without
 friends to hang out with
to wander in search of photo ops
Toonman
 would have me
sit home with him
catching up on recorded television
of course
there will be beautifying
 if the weather is good
there's likely to be a walk in the park
 heavy camera optional
 last weekend
we
cabbed it
to
 10th Avenue and 30th Street
I've wanted to get some shots
 of the
Hudson Yards

 the terminus
 for the
Long Island Railroad
 part
of which
 is being developed
 into
a business/residential/shopping site
 but
when
I am not sure
as its been
 'going to be'
for several years now

 tricky stuff
getting
 a
BIG lens
(one you cant fit between the spaces in the fence)
 to
ignore
 the gating
 and
get a photo of the trains
 if
 I was brave like
 Kate
I'd have tried to go manual
but
I am not
 so
I played with the focal settings
 (D90 has 3)
I did manage to get a few shots
 but none
are true
winners

see

I did get some fun shots
on
 The High Line

apparently
neighboring buildings
 now facing
 the park
 have developed
 a sense of humor
about
 people
 being able to
look
into their
windows

at first glance
 Phill
thought the man
 was
real

actually
when Toonman
looked
at the pix on my iMac
 he thought so too

 then
there was the high point of the weekend
dinner with Mary's grand baby
no
that was fun
 but
 not
 the acme
not
the pinnacle

that

was
Woodlawn

I took
 over a hundred photos
 lots of amazing mausoleums
I am going to share
some
of the
celebrity
 'sightings'
today

this is the memorial
of
Irene and Vernon Castle
husband and wife dance stars
famous
 long before
Dancing with the Stars!!!

it was pointed out
 that
LaGuardia
did not have
 Mayor
listed on his headstone

Mr Roach
was the drummer
who played with
Sir Miles Davis
who rests just across the road

I've forgotten,
I am sad to say,
 whose memorial this is
but
 I do recall
 its made of sandstone
weather will erode it over time
WAIT
I did some Googling
Joyce Alexander Wein
was the wife
 of
 jazz impresario
George Wein
read about her
here

and
there there were
the
giant lesbians

both are still alive
one is a sculpter
she
created life size replicas
 of
her partner and herself
in bronze
 they plan to be buried
under
 it
when they pass
 in the meantime,
I am told,
the artist sees
 it as
'the gift that keeps on giving'

on that note
 we will bid
adieu
to Woodlawn

have a great weekend
get out
enjoy!

EDITED because I learned, thank you Gail, that Irene and Vernon Castle were husband and wife not brother and sister .. and Irene posed for that statue on his grave

the two buildings to the right,
