waiting patiently

this
is
 Mabel
 she lives
 in
Queen Village,
Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania

she's
un bouledogue fran├žais
 (a french bulldog!)

 she is a camera slut
refusing
 to go inside
 with
 her person
 because
 she
 had
 the attention
 of
three photographers

when
I knelt down
(I could have said 'Tebow'd)
 to
say
 thank you for posing
she
kissed
 my face
 many times

thanks, Reena!

thanks, Kate!

I am hosting friends in from Cincinnati this weekend

wasn't that
clever tie
 in
 to the photo?

So
 if I am scarce
again
 I apologize
I'll make it up to you
with
lots
 of
 new
 interesting
photos
 next week

meanwhile
you can still see photos from Philly
over

three on thursday - manayunk

 these
three
 interesting
things
were in
 one
of the many small shops
 that
 line
 the main drag
 of
Manayunk

 its
 a
recently
gentrified area
 there are a ton
of
resale/consignment
shops
reselling
well cared for
gently worn
designer
clothes, bags, shoes
all of which contrast
with
the 'antique' shops
selling
gently used
well cared for
junk

water tower wednesday

this
 red
brick
beauty
 is down in the 30s
off
Fifth
I am not sure
 that
its
 actually
 a water tower tank
up
 there
 in that
 cone
 but
if it isnt
I am not sure what it could be
anyone?
Beuhler?

the weather
this weekend
 in Philly
 the city of brotherly love
was less than hospitable
being intrepid photographers and bloggers
we
did not
 let the gale force winds
the almost non stop icy rain
keep us from having a really great time

Reena of MissingMoments
 hosted
and
me
at her home
The Professor
joined
 us
 for dinner on Saturday evening
 at
a tapas restaurant on the Main Line
dahlings
 and
he took us to brunch on Sunday
at
a New Orleans themed restaurant
in an area called
Manayunk

In between
eating
hey
girls gotta
 keep
their strength up
 when toting BIG
cameras

I took over 200 photos
most
of
 which
 were in focus
despite
 the wind
I kid you not
 here
 see
 for
 yourself
 how
windy
it
was

the rest
of the
 photos
 will
be
shared
over at
 beginning
 today
with
a shot
from

we're having fun
tell you all about it

sharing with

waiting patiently

that's
Kramer and Stella
there
waiting to go to the park

  walkies!

Kramer
was named
for the Seinfeld character
played by Michael Richards
why?
Well
 not
because
he resembles him
  no
this Kramer
enters a room at a run
with a skid at the end
just
like
the character of Kramer did
honest

Stella is a confused pitbull
she is so sweet
so lovable
her favorite pastime
 is
eating
 really
 their mom was busy working
they were going walkies with a friend
and
waited patiently
 while
I snapped them with my iPhone
it was a
very
 very
windy day
 the wind
was
making
Kramer
shake his head
 trust me
this is the best shot
 they are not conjoined
only huddled against the wind
oh
both of them were adopted from Broadway Barks
their mom is involved with that wonderful shelter

Oh
I am going off photo hunting
 with blog buds
this weekend
if I dont reply to your comments
 please
know
 I will
when I get home
on Sunday!

See ya!

three on thursday - red tips

see the 3 red tipped trees?
yes,
 there
are
more
than
 3 trees
 in this photo
 but
you will agree
 only 3 of them
 have red tipped branches?
  good
we were down by Pier 1
just below
Trumpistan
 this past Saturday
it was a gloriously warm day
 the park was not crowded
dont know why
 dont care
 we
walked
to the end of the pier
 I took some photos
we walked back
 Toonman
pointed out those trees
 I believe
 he
said
look at those THREE birches with the red tipped branches
 I looked
I snapped
I thought
perfect
 for
Thursday

water tower wednesday - not a tarp

this
trio
 of
tanks
 was
shot
from West 77th
walking toward Broadway
(that would be walking west, Lauren)

 that blue draped there?
its to cover repair work to the brick wall
 I am guessing
 that the bricks
 are being replaced
 and
the blue,
 not really a tarp,
 but
for purposes
of
this
explanation
 lets call it that
 is
protecting
whatever
 is under it
from
the
'weather'

 not
 that
we've had any real winter weather
 since
 that insane snow fall
 on
Halloween

blather

It was a
lovely weekend
after
beautifying

Toonman
and
 I
took a
walk
it was a warmish afternoon
 but
there was
a lot of
fog
over the
Hudson

some
 of the
birch trees
got
their
red on

 birds
 were

everywhere

they
 might
have
been
 hoping
 to catch
fish

or
maybe
they
 were
house hunting

whatever
 they were up to
I was happy
to be
out and about
 with
the
 BIG
camera
 snapping away

It wasnt a long walk but it was a good walk
thanks for tagging along!

Hipstamatic app: Chunky lens, Blanko film, no flash

This
is the same
building
I showed you
on my other blog
 here
I cant
remember
if
it was
early on a
Sunday morning
 or
late on a
Sunday afternoon

all I know is
 I looked up
 thinking
I like the way the sun is throwing shadows on that facade
I like the color of the light

Toonman
laughs
 at the concept
 that light
has color
clearly
 this light is reddish
dont you agree?
I thought so.

remember
 that
 little
 lamb
 of a pup?

he's
shaking
hands/paws
 with
his person

 yes
he got a treat

once again
 in my haste
 to
snap
fast

he's not in focus

how could I not post something

I want to tell you
about
one of my favorite
series
of
books
author
 Louise Penny
was recommended
  by a co-worker
who
like me
devours
mystery books
 as soon as
 they hit the book stores
ebook sites
libraries

Chief Inspector Gamache
is Penny's protagonist
 in this series
 set in Montreal
 She's working on book #9
with
book #8
The Beautiful Mystery
set to hit stores on and offline
in August
 you can order
pre-release
 in the meantime
read the other books
I promise you will thank me

If you want to 'meet' Louise
here's a link to her blog

Recently
my blog friend
Cloudia
commented about NYC:
"the city is a museum of architecture and sociology and humanity!"

hipstamatic app: john s lens, ina's 1969 film, no flash

this is a perfect example
a very new high rise
the architect
here
took a page from the past
adding trim, balconies and a hint of the Flatiron shape

Looking
forward to the weekend
a massage
was
scheduled for
Saturday morning
 til
I remembered:
March 17th
St Patrick's Day
parade
crosstown traffic
 will
be
impossible
re-scheduled the appointment
to
Sunday afternoon
 then
I thought
why
not
 walk
 back/forth
across the park!

unfortunately
the slot I gave up
was no longer available
oh well

saw these in Urban Outfitters

glow in the dark sunglasses with attached 'staches'
what every St Pat's celebrant needs

three on thursday

the
First Baptist Church
 has
unequal towers
there are also
2 smaller towers,
one
of which is the
red tiled tower in the foreground of this photo
the church was designed
by
George M Keister
he also designed the Apollo Theatre in Harlem

I've lived
 in this neighborhood
forever
walked
past
 this church
daily
on the way
to
and
from
 the subway

 I never knew
 any
of this
 or
this
other stuff
 you can read about

I bet it says nothing about the pigeons roosting atop and inside the unequal towers

water tower wednesday

I love
 the
scalloped
ornate detail
on this
block
 of a
building
 so neat

I love
the
air conditioners
 in the large windows

 I  love
 the
narrow slits
of windows
 they must be the bathrooms

I love
the way its
topped
 like a layer cake
with
elevator housing
and
of course
the
 water tower

can
you see
 the
old fashioned antenna?

monday morning blather

So
have you
adjusted
to the time change?

I know
we
do it here
 in the US
 I am not sure
if
Canadians
 adjust their clocks

 losing an hour is rude
I dont care
 how
much
more
 daylight
there is at the end of the day
I want
my
hour
back

if you're awake
you might
have
noticed
 I changed
Monday Monologue
to
Monday Morning Blather
why?
well
monologue
seemed
so
stuffy
the
spelling
seemed
pretentious

 its more blather

blather
being
a less
pretentious
word
or
maybe
more

 bottom line
 I like it better

I've been blogging
4 years
 give or take
new bloggers pay attention
I am about
 to impart
 old blogger wisdom

when you start blogging
 its all about getting followers
so
you join things
called
MEMEs

no

 I have no idea
how its pronounced
but
its a good way to meet other bloggers
build that following
then you start to find themes
for each day

clever pithy titles
 for the clever posts
 you write
 fun captions
 for the photos you post

of course
once you have become comfortable posting
 you
dont
worry
about the
number of followers
 or
being in a MEME
 or
passing around awards

you
just
want
to
keep
being
 interesting

 maybe
 the title
for my post weekend recaps
should
just
 be
blather
that's all it
 is
 blather
punctuated by photos

hipstamatic iphoneograph john s lens kodot xgrizzled film no flash starbucks b'way/82 street

for
 months
I have been trying
to
 figure out
why
the # of followers
doesnt show
and
why
 'titles'
 or
'labels'
on the sidebar
dont show

 the other night
 apropos
of nothing
I had this brain fart
what
 if the reason
 the words
 dont show
 is
 because
you set the type color to white?

then
I fell asleep
 amazingly
I remembered
in the morning and checked
 sumofabeach
if
hadn't
set
 the font color
 as
 white

DOH

GAH

fixed it
I discovered
 I have
 405 followers

wow
I guess
I am not as jaded as I thought

thank you
for joining me as I blather along
okay,
now
off to work

there are
 lots of places
to sit and enjoy the views

 this reflection
is from one of those sitting areas
its got an interesting
 'roof'
the wire
that makes the
 'roof'
is what's reflected
onto those
cobblestones

I took these last summer
and
I am
still
unsure
why these two
were

tied up outside the playground area
but I guess when you have
 two dogs
a toddler
an infant
a double wide stroller
a scooter
and
nanny
you can do what you want
