water tower wednesday - artsy tanks

Read
about
an interesting
'dressing'
 NYC's water tower tanks!

its fascinating to me
to think my obsession
 with
water towers/tanks
will grow
proportionately
once
these
decorated tanks
begin
appearing
 in spring
2013

I am sure
they'll
be a lot more interesting
than this tank
I decorated with stickers
from
Picnik.com
just to give you an idea of what this might be like

monday monologue - fuzzy brain

fuzzy brain this morning
Oscar after effect
of
staying up past 10 pm
gawd
I am getting old
didnt wager any bets
and
am not surprised
although I am disappointed
there were no major WTF moments
aside from
Ms Lopez's
maybe
maybe not
 'costume' malfunction
I say the vee was a wee bit too deep

did you catch Angelina's slit to the hip strut?
Seriously?

this fashionista's take on best and worst dressed
Viola Davis
wore some fabulous gowns
to the other award shows
her green Vera Wang was pretty atop
but
seemed to be ripped and tattered
on the bottom
I know this is a style
its just not a style
I find
red carpet
 'worthy'
if there is such a thing

AND
I thought that
Melissa McCarthy might have lunch with Octavia Spencer
to get her stylist's name
because
Octavia looked amazing

while
Melissa looked

 .. well ...
not so amazing

Enough of this fashionista stuff

how about the weather in NYC this weekend?

Talk about being
blown away
I walked down to
Columbus Circle

Saturday
to meet
my handsome hunky Larry

and
his better half Kevin

 for
lunch at Robert
in the Museum of Art & Design
truly one of the best lunch
or
dinner restaurants
with a view you cannot
beat

Kevin takes many snaps of the UWS

Columbus poses as if he's on the red carpet

food
that competes with the view
service that is superb
I ordered a salad when it arrived it was 70% frissee
I detest frissee
detest it
I told the waiter how much I hated it
asked to replace it
I apologized
he refused my apology
bringing me a different salad

it was a leisurely lunch
lots of catching up with the guys
lots of photo taking
lots of tech talk
and
we made a new friend
a charming woman sitting just next to us
asked
'was this the grey haired seating area?'
I told her if so
we were in the wrong place as we
(Larry, Kev and I)
all have
SILVER hair
as did she.

taken by our new friend A

taken by the Maitre d'

New Yorkers are not shy

It was a fun lunch
after the guys headed downtown
I walked uptown
it was a bracing walk with the wind blowing

when I got home
a package from Los Angeles was waiting
under the rugged outer wrap

this
beautifully
wrapped
box
a belated (due to the USPS) birthday gift

 inside
this exquisite antique
(a little older than I am )
hand painted
cup and saucer
thank you
my dear F
I adore it
and
you

Sunday
I did my weekly beautification at
after that a quick trip to Zabars
then home to hang with Toonman
 the cats
and
some catch up on
Luck
which we record off HBO
if you've not seen it give it a shot
its some of the best writing
characters
acting

I hope you had fun tagging along
let me know
what you thought
about
 the Oscars
the fashion

 all
of these pictures
were taken
with my iPhone
some using the Hipstamatic app
none are signed

sunday shadows - 42nd street

early morning
on
42nd Street
looking east
toward
the
rising
sun

lots of lovely
shadows and reflections
on
the
glass and chrome
facades

sharing with

waiting patiently - eastside

this
sweet
older pup
 was smart
he was sitting on a bench
outside a bistro
Sant Ambroeus
on Madison Avenue in the East 70s
just a block or so away
from
exhale spa
where I was headed
one wet
Saturday morning
not so long ago

friday

its Friday again
actually
its
Thursday as I type
Wipe Out is on w/o sound
just
because

Jack
is gearing up
to throw a temper tantrum
to be noticed
to get food
as if that
ever
works

Rose
is perched on the back
of
the
off white
chair
the
chair
she inflicted a
hairball on
earlier
this week

Time Warner
bless their heart
had issues
we had
no
internets
 its back now

 Toonman
is
playing cards

the apartment
is
mine

three on thursday - strike up the band

when did I take this photo?
maybe
 it was last summer
maybe the summer before that

I dont remember
I do know where it was taken
 in front of
on
Columbus Avenue
at one of the summer's
street festivals

So nosy bloggers want to know
do you now
or
did you ever
play an instrument?

Me?
I really wanted to play piano
my grandfather wanted to buy me a baby grand
my mother, oh so wise, vetoed it
why?
as a child
she took piano lessons
and
she knew me well enough to know
I would lose interest
as soon as it became
a lesson
vs
a lark
Oh so wise was my mother

Tell me about your music lessons

monday monologue - hipstamatic

I did get to leave early on Friday
yea me!

Toonman was still working
so
I had to wait to totally unlax
after his client left
he had to borrow
my iMac
to do some editing stuff
his iMac
wasnt happy doing
its going to get an attitude
(and DVD/CD player/recorder)
adjustment today

Saturday
was a typical beautification™ day
after
Sandy
at
unfrizzed my hair
I did a little wandering
stopping
by the vet to pick up Rosie's special food
setting up a blood work appointment for the end of the weeek
 Rose has chronic kidney disease
but she's still got at least 7 lives left
not to worry

a quick stop at

then home
where I downloaded the clever

Sunday
Susan
at Polished
made my nails a happy spring-like lavender leaning toward heliotrope

I did a little wandering
with both iPhone and P&S

Peter Woytuk
had tweeted that his hens were
finally
installed on the Broadway Mall between 75-76 Streets
directly
across
from Fairway
which is sort of a perfect setting
for
3 hens

I started off
standing
in the street
then got brave
climbed up into the Mall
careful not to step on any of the small leave tips
beginning to poke up through the earth
from the spring bulbs planted there

I got several nice snaps with the P&S

I took a shot with the Hipstamatic app

hey you lookin' at me?

Love these hens

I wandered back uptown
stopping at a shop on Broadway
called
where the window is filled
with amusing rubber duckies
Toonman says reminds him of the Cow Parade

No one paid me to pimp these places and things

I hope you enjoyed the new to me Hipstamatic photos as much as I did taking them!

sunday shadows

this year
and
most of last
during the fall
have been unseasonably warm
I am not complaining
just
explaining
how I am not sure
when I took this
its the small triangle park
 between
Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue
at 66 Street
once called
Empire Square Park
(I didnt know that, to me it was always Lincoln Square Park!)
now
 its known
as
Richard Tucker Square
read about it
sharing with

wating patiently - keeping watch

this fabulous guy
was waiting
with his man person
while
his lady person
was
ice skating
at
Bryant Park
a few weekends ago

he
only
took his eyes
off
the skaters

to gobble
a treat
given
for being so nice
to the
lady with the
camera

then
it was
back
to
watching

I didnt get his name
but
I think it should be
Barrymore
what a profile!

the week that was

its Friday
again
Friday

its the start of the weekend
even tho
I work a full day on Fridays in the
fall
winter
spring
occasionally I get to leave early
hoping this is one
of
those early escape
Fridays

What's new?
well I have seen a lot of 'new' TV
hate The River
love SMASH
Alcatraz is growing on me

Walking Dead returned
Breaking Bad
(I am still 2 seasons behind)
returns soon
I need to get my streaming on

I am still loving
George RR Martin's brillliant epic
reading slowly through
Dance of Dragons

aside from
wishing/watching/reading
the week has had its excitement
there was Valentine's Day

Toonman
made me
a heart themed Toon
bought me a card
one card more
than
he bought for my birthday
the week before
Hey
thats okay
'cause
he baked me a birthday cake

there's the NY Times delivery debacle
its on going
every
time
a new delivery person takes over the route
chaos commences:
missed papers
papers left on the street
vs
inside the vestibule
someone else's papers
one morning
we got 223 West's
we live at 323 West
another morning brought us
our across the street neighbor's

I think
a requirement for this job should be the ability to
READ

Oh yeah
my good deed
being a mean girl
occasionally
I make the extra effort to do a good deed
my boss found a Blackberry in a cab
could I try and locate the owner
sure
I love solving puzzles

tried to access the Blackberry for email address, name or a contact #
it was locked
I did find the # of the Blackberry
called it
in case the owner checked voicemail
I left a message

I called the Taxi & Commission
filed a report on a found phone

 I called Sprint
asked if they could contact the owner
they couldnt

then
the phone
rang!

it was the owner's office!
I explained the situation

a few hours later
the owner
 in NYC from Charlotte
on business called
I got his NY office address
 messengered it to him
Good deed accomplished
should I ever lose my mobile I sure hope someone will try to return it

thank you
Faye
for the
delicious
fattening
ever so appreciated
birthday surprise

that's about it
not exactly a ya-ha week
there's a long weekend coming
stay tuned!

water tower wednesday - silhouette

it was pretty overcast
when
I shot this
it looked almost like a monochrome
so I zapped it with a little BW action
voila
a silhouette
but not

where is this one?
 in the East 70s
(yes, Lauren, I am sure)

monday monologue

last week
I became another year older
I didnt want to celebrate
I wanted the day to pass quietly
like the
 'just another day'
 that it was
but
Toonman
had other ideas
first he made me a birthday toon
then he baked me a cake
a tradition in this marriage

he knows how I love cold cake
he put it in the fridge overnight

delish

my weekend plans
multiplied
from
'just' the monthly massage
weekend mani/pedi

I got an message from my friend Mary
she was sending me a gift
from Paris!

it turned out to be my friend (and former blogger)
