monday monologue - we're ok!

Yesterday
I
shared
the only
photos
I took
after
Hurricane Irene
stopped
raining on us
and
being a lazy sloth
I didnt go
out and explore
  The guilt
is
enormous
especially since
we didn't take a walk this weekend!

To make up for my slacking
I am
sharing
some more
of
the
glorious birds
all
the various critters
are all fine at the
Bronx Zoo,
the Aquarium
and
the other
Wildlife Conservatory
facilities in the 5 boroughs

I dont know
the
names
of
these
exquisite avians

but
I do know these are parrots!

 thanks for coming along!

stick up

apres Irene

I didnt go into the park
just
quick look
and
then back
because
I wasnt dressed
for the
damp
cool air

here's what
I saw
standing
on
Riverside Drive
looking
into
the
park

the open area that serves as a lawn for sitting in the sun is now a small lake

tree branches litter the sidewalks along the park and its benches

joggers anxious from days indoors are out exercising

 dogs are being walked

and
these
three people
were
looking
for
something
no idea what

a drier day

this past Friday,
a dry sunny Irene-less day,
on the way home
from the zoo
we
walked
through
Central Park
passing
these
four
yes
four
look closely
3 little girls
and
a boy
playing some version of
hotscotch
or
potsy
or maybe
some
game
they
invented

I hope
everyone
in Irene's path
stays home
stays dry
and
finds distraction
from
the non-stop news coverage
by
visiting blogs

waiting patiently

Last Sunday
as
I walked along
Columbus Avenue
behind the
Museum of Natural History
with my Blisters
(blog + sisters = Blisters)
Ann, Kate, Lauren and Reena
admiring
the
fruits,
vegetables,
plants,
and
other food stuffs
at the Farmer's Market
that stretches
from
77th Street to 81st Street
I stopped
to admire
a handsome young
Boston Terrier and his person.

They were sitting in the shade watching the people walk by.
I asked
"might I take your photo?"
In reply
he
hopped up on his person's lap and posed

I couldnt pick just one so I made this collage

Thanks for coming along!

are you ready? let's go!

And so to those photos from our Central Park Zoo outing
 are you ready?
  Here we go!

We walked
to the zoo
from our apartment
on Riverside Drive
testing
ToonMan's sense of direction
Its weird
but
even
those
with a good sense of direction
can get lost
turned around
inside
Central Park

The Zoo's
entrance
is on
Fifth Avenue between 62-63rd Streets

Walking through the park
there was
lot
of
music

 the bubble man was entertaining

gazebos
were there
for those
who would climb
rocks to get to them

when we got to the Zoo
the first stop
was
the Tropic Zone
man
its
hot
in there

birds of all color
and
sizes
fly free
and
perch
everywhere

it was
so hot
(how hot was it?)
so hot
these turtles were trying to climb up to where it might be cooler

We left the Tropic Zone
heading over to
Temperate Territory
where
 this red panda thought
if he took a bath he'd feel better

he reminded us of our orange tabby Jack

then we went to see the
sea lions
they were
frolicking
racing
around
their pool
taking a good photo
required the training
I had got at Lunar Park's Scream Zone:
pick a spot
and
aim
wait for your subject
to enter the frame
and
keep
snapping!

Thanks for tagging along

three on thursday

Tempting fate
and
a hefty fine
these excellent musicians
played
under
the
restored
Minton tiles
 in the lower passage
of the
an area
designated
Central Park
'quiet zone'

wordless wednesday

I think
that
this
polar bear
is giving us
a raspberry,
a bronx cheer,
a bit of tongue
to say
enough with the photos!

monday monologue: busy weekend

Friday
We didnt
go to the

after the excess
of
annoying
whining
little
brats
in the
adjacent

 I do not understand
how
DAY CAMP
group
with at least 2 adults
to every child
could not
remember
to walk down the
narrow stairs in the
Tropic Zone
keeping
RIGHT
had they
maybe
we and a lot of others
wouldnt have had to wait
as long
as it takes
a slow moving frieght train
to cross
urban RR tracks
and
what ever happened
to letting other people
stand close
enough
to get a photo
of an animal
without
your
child
in it?

I had
to
settle
for
 paws
and
an awkward shot
of this
adorable
because
a child
refused to stop
 'petting' it through the glass
 insane
seriously
then her father
 - a man of about 15 ft in height -
stepped
into
ToonMan's shot of same sleeping leopard
 ToonMan is five nine
on a good day

(that's his waiting for me to take a photo look)

I wish
those
kids
could have
seen
this

Maybe they'd have stepped away from glass

Nevertheless
I got some got pictures,
the newer new lens
(18-300mm)
its heavy,
oh my is it ever,
but
it takes insanely
gorgeous
photos
so I am thinking its worth its weight

Saturday
Errands and beautification
in
preparation
for

Sunday
a visit
from my old friends/Blisters
and
a new friend blogger
(Reena)

we
wanted
to have lunch at
but there was a bit of a wait
so
we went to the GreenFlea
and
wandered
then
we wandered
the Farmer's Market
before heading
to a long lovely lunch
of non-stop talking
about what?
cameras, blogs, travel, spouses, gossip

Thanks for sitting through the monologue
I promise to share more zoo photos

monday monologue teaser

It was
fun
filled
weekend

I am going to share it
with
you
however
recently
ToonMan
pointed out
I have not
been signing
all
my photos
so
I am going to 'edit' them
write up all the
thrilling things
I did
until I am done
here's a fun
collage
of a
black stork
I call it:

 channeling Mick Jagger

waiting patiently

there were
no
dogs
 out and about
 Coney Island

you'll
have
to
settle
for this pup
looking
longingly
into the bodega
waiting on his person

  I
bet
he was
hoping his patient wait
would be
rewarded
with
treat

thanks for stopping by its always fun to see you.

sling shot

The Sling Shot
is in the
Scream Zone

Aside
from
no f'ing way would I ever
get into one of these

there's not much to say
except
OOOH
MY
Gawd!!

thanks for sharing the scream zone with me!
